Round 1
Johnson ducks under Matthews' first swiping hook and they clinch. Matthews muscles his way to double underhooks Johnson gets one underhook of his own, but the massive Matthews is sticking him to the fence with brawn. Johnson looks for a guillotine and ends up on his back, but it's not tight. “The Celtic Kid” powers through it and opens up with ground-and-pound from full guard. Hard elbows from Matthews, who has slashed Johnson's forehead open. Johnson smashes through Johnson's guard with his pounding, passing under the legs and going to north-south with 90 seconds to fight. Johnson is getting pounded on. His makes it to his knees in the turtle position, but's all Matthews, who smashes away with right hands to the side of his head.

Round 2
The 19-year-old Aussie pressures Johnson, who circles away and tries to found a counter. As Matthews shoots, Johnson rips him with a right uppercut, but Matthews gets to his leg and ties him up, despite the power shot. Matthews keeps driving for the takedown, so Johnson looks to punish him. However, Johnson's elbows end up being 12-6 elbows to the back of the head, prompting referee Peter Hickmont to instantly pause the action and deduct a point from Johnson. On the restart, Matthews bulls him back into the fence, but as he closes in on a body lock takedown, Johnson grabs the fence to stay upright. Matthews keeps pushing for a single-leg, but Johnson reaches through his legs and nearly hits a powerful switch. Johnson holds onto an overhook against the fence to stop the takedown, but Matthews keeps trying to put the imprint of the chain link on his back. Matthews drops for a double and finally gets Johnson on his back with 20 seconds. He moves to side as Johnson simply holds on until the horn sounds.

Round 3
Johnson lands a left check hook and just barely misses a deadly right hand behind it. He backs himself back up to the fence again but once more, lands a right uppercut on an advancing Matthews. Johnson winds up on another massive uppercut from the floor, but Matthews clinches and grabs him. “The Celtic Kid” grabs a headlock, then rolls into a corner reversal throw, landing right in full mount with a guillotine. He goes to work immediately with heavy leather and big elbows. Johnson absorbs some serious punishment, rolling to both sides before finally exposing his back. Matthews threatens for a moment, but Johnson turns back into his foe and winds up in full guard. Unfortunately for him, the teenage Aussie already has a triangle choke framed up and Johnson drives head first into it. Johnson freezes up and is forced to tap.
