Moving now to the lightweight division, the appropriately nicknamed “The Doctor” Medic (6-0, 0-0 UFC) looks to make his promotional debut against fellow Dana White’s Contender Series alum Cruz (8-3, 0-1 UFC). Drawing the second assignment of the evening is referee Mark Smith, and there is no sporting touch of gloves to start things off. Instead, Cruz rushes out of his corner with a big front kick that Medic dodges. Cruz fires off a few more kicks, and Medic avoids them and throws back hard. When Cruz crashes in, Medic clips him with a left hand, and Cruz’ legs nearly give out. Medic pushes off an ensuing takedown attempt, hurts Cruz with a left hand and fires off a flying knee. Cruz falls back into the fence, and Medic assaults him with a barrage of punches. Cruz falls over, desperately attempting a takedown, and Medic pounds on him with punch after unanswered punch. Cruz rolls through and stays just busy enough to stave off a stoppage, so Medic keeps dropping bombs. Smith keeps a close eye on the proceeding, but Cruz is done.
Cruz keeps surviving, albeit barely, and “The Doctor” is defying the Hippocratic Oath to keep slamming his fists into Cruz' head and body. The stoppage could come at any time; as Cruz practically flattens out still taking punishment, Smith finally intervenes.
Still undefeated with seven finishes in seven outings, Medic’s brutal beating of Cruz proved that he done messed up, A-A-lon.
