Expert Picks (7)
Angelo picks Gabriel Benítez, citing his technical kickboxing, speed, and better grappling. He notes Ontiveros has chin issues and low-level competition. Benítez is a safe parlay piece despite being a big favorite.
Big Brady picks Gabriel Benítez to win by first-round knockout. He calls Ontiveros the least durable fighter in the UFC, noting he has been finished eight times and has quit in fights. Benítez has power and durability, though his chin is questionable. Brady expects a stand-up war where Benítez lands a big shot early, possibly a body kick, and finishes Ontiveros.
Cody picks Benítez, calling Ontiveros a 'never was' and noting Benítez's experience and leg kicks. He acknowledges Benítez's durability may be fading but believes Ontiveros' chin is completely gone. Cody thinks Benítez will land clean and finish him early.
Daniel Levi picks Gabriel Benítez, but with caution. He notes that Benítez should win easily due to his experience and heart, but he is coming off a brutal knockout loss. Ontiveros has a puncher's chance in the first two minutes, but if he doesn't land, Benítez will break him down. Levi is not rushing to bet on Benítez at these odds.
The host is high on Ontiveros as a dog, expecting a first-round KO. He mentions that he wants to bet 'fight doesn't go to decision' and under 1.5 rounds, but notes the line is juiced to -240. He also mentions a possible bet on Ontiveros round one at +800. He calls Ontiveros his 'dog of the card' and believes he gets the KO.
Paul picks Benítez, expecting a first-round knockout. He notes Ontiveros has been knocked out 8-9 times and is made of glass. Paul is shocked the under 1.5 rounds is -240, but still thinks Benítez will smash him. He also likes Benítez over 104.5 fantasy points on PrizePicks.
The host picks Gabriel Benítez, expecting him to survive an early onslaught and secure a late second-round TKO against the cage. He notes Ontiveros's loss to Steve Garcia Jr. as a red flag and believes Benítez can hold the gate one more time. He mentions Ontiveros as a good underdog for a first-round KO bet but ultimately sides with Benítez's experience.

This afternoon card all on ESPN+ is a shorter one, with just nine fights remaining on the billing. Short fight nights call for short introductions, and the show begins with a tilt between lightweights in Garcia (11-4, 0-1 UFC) and Ontiveros (11-7, 0-1 UFC) that are both looking for their first win in a new division. While Garcia is moving up from featherweight, Ontiveros is shifting down from middleweight to 155 pounds, and they meet literally and figuratively in the middle but do not touch gloves in front of referee Chris Tognoni. Ontiveros starts off with a solid right hand, and he tags Garcia with a few punches. Garcia falls to his back as he gets wobbled with shots, but Ontiveros lets him back up. Garcia charges like a bull, still a little stiff on his feet, and he walks into an axe kick. Garcia falls forward when getting drilled with a quick right hand, his second knockdown in rapid succession. As Ontiveros tries to finish the job, “Mean Machine” takes the wind out of his sails with a desperation takedown. Ontiveros looks irritated with himself for allowing himself to hit the canvas, and he pushes off the wall and tries to set up an armbar to no avail. Ontiveros closes his guard, and Garcia sits up and smacks him with a few punches to disrupt Ontiveros getting to his feet. “The American Bad Boy” ignores them as he powers back up, only to succumb to a mat return shortly thereafter. Ontiveros slashes out with an elbow, and Garcia ducks his head down to start suffocating his Texas-based opponent with top control. Garcia holds on, laying on Ontiveros’ chest in a tender position, until he postures up to get off a little ground-and-pound. “Mean Machine” uses his placement to jam Ontiveros’ neck against the wall so that he is trapped down, and he works Ontiveros over with elbows and punches until Ontiveros kicks him off. Garcia lowers himself back down, and as he does, Ontiveros spins with his legs off the cage to result in a north-south position. Garcia isolates an arm so that he can blast Ontiveros with an elbow, and the single elbow opens up a huge cut on the blonde-haired Ontiveros’ eye. Ontiveros rolls through and gets nailed with a left hand from above, and Garcia finishes off the round with strikes until the horn sounds. Ontiveros appears a bit worse for wear when he stands back up, but he does make it back to his corner.

Round 2
Garcia comes out a man possessed out of his corner, winging a huge right hand that stings his opponent. As a wild flurry ensues, Ontiveros is the one who sticks him with strikes and puts Garcia on his knees early. “Mean Machine” realizes that fighting on the feet may not be his best strategy, so he ducks down into a double leg takedown. Ontiveros aims to defend with a guillotine choke, but Garcia pushes through it and climbs on top. Garcia advances smoothly to side control, before claiming full mount as he hammers Ontiveros with elbows. From above, Garcia thumps his shoulder down on the damaged eye, shaking Ontiveros up with them. Knowing that “The American Bad Boy” is firmly entrenched in the danger zone, Garcia postures up and slams his fists into Ontiveros face again and again.
The strikes are unanswered and largely undefended, as Garcia batters Ontiveros with punches like Lou did to Tyler Durden in “Fight Club.” Tognoni does not know where he’s been, until he snaps to action and intervenes as blood sprays the canvas and transforms Ontiveros’ mane into a brilliant shade of crimson.
In his post-fight interview, Garcia thanks UFC head Dana White for "believing in freedom." What a violent way to start the day!
The Official Result
Steve Garcia def. Charlie Ontiveros R2 1:51 via TKO (Punches)
Expert Picks (8)
Angelo picks Steve Garcia but is hesitant due to Charlie Ontiveros's size advantage and wild striking style. He notes Garcia's solid grappling and boxing but worries if Garcia engages in striking exchanges. He plans to wait for weigh-ins before betting, as Ontiveros's weight cut could affect his chin. He sees Garcia as the likely winner but not a lock.
Big Brady is very confident in Steve Garcia, citing Garcia's impressive striking, pressure, volume, and power. He notes that Charlie Ontiveros has a history of quitting and being finished, with all seven losses by knockout or technical stoppage. Brady believes Garcia is mentally and physically tougher, and predicts a first-round knockout. He mentions the line at -300 is fair and could be wider, but he is not betting it.
Cody picks Garcia confidently, citing Ontiveros's poor chin and tendency to get finished early. He notes Garcia's experience against better competition and durability. He believes Ontiveros's weight cut and lack of chin will be his downfall, and Garcia's skill will prevail.
Daniel Levi picks Steve Garcia but is hesitant due to the steep price. He questions Garcia's chin and heart after seeing him handled by a pro debut fighter, but acknowledges Garcia's toughness and ability to drop Jeff Neal. He believes Garcia is the more real fighter but warns against laying heavy chalk.
Jacob picks Steve Garcia but is intrigued by Charlie Ontiveros at plus 240. He thinks Garcia should win if he grapples, but Ontiveros's wild style gives him a puncher's chance. He might throw some money on Ontiveros inside the distance at plus 240. He sees Garcia as the safer pick but likes the underdog value.
The host picks Steve Garcia, believing he is much better than Ontiveros. He notes Garcia's grappling ability and expects him to drown Ontiveros with pressure and ground-and-pound. He criticizes Ontiveros's tendency to quit and predicts a second-round TKO for Garcia.
Paul leans toward Garcia but is cautious about the price. He notes Ontiveros's poor chin and history of getting finished, but also Garcia's own struggles and long layoff. He believes Garcia should win but the -320 is steep for a fighter with question marks.
The MMA Guru picks Steve Garcia to win by second-round TKO. He believes Garcia will weather Ontiveros's early wild attacks, then take over as Ontiveros fades. He notes Ontiveros's poor record and tendency to go to decisions against decent opponents, and thinks Garcia's size and toughness will be key.

Looking to do what Green could not in win for the fourth time inside the Octagon in 2020 is “Trailblazer” Holland (19-5, 6-2 UFC) who meets short-notice replacement and Fury FC staple Ontiveros (11-6, 0-0 UFC). The referee for this middleweight clash is Mark Smith, and Holland thanks his opponent for taking the fight by offering a touch of gloves. Holland races in to attack, and he falls over coming so recklessly. Ontiveros lets loose an axe kick, and Holland mocks him for throwing that strike. Holland picks up the newcomer and slams him down, where he lands in side control and starts dropping down elbows as Ontiveros has a hold of his neck. Ontiveros is briefly in Von Preux danger, but Holland takes north-south position and starts punching the side of Ontiveros’ head and body. Holland rains down some clacking elbows on Ontiveros, and the newcomer tries to buck him off but is trapped on his back in side control. Holland grinds his elbow on the face of his opponent, and Ontiveros spins out and stands back up.
Holland takes his back, trips his leg out and smashes Ontiveros down hard. Holland looks to set up some sort of submission but Ontiveros may be out cold or hurt badly from the slam. Holland motions to Smith that Ontiveros is hurt, and Ontiveros moans or cries out, prompting Smith to intervene and stop the fight by verbal submission.
The finishing sequence is unclear, whether the impact of the slam put Ontiveros out or hurt him in some way. Holland gets up to celebrate, and he starts calling out champ Israel Adesanya in the audience. Meanwhile, Ontiveros is still down, and he will need be stretchered out. We hope he makes a full recovery, from the potential neck injury that Holland claims his fallen opponent mentioned. After the fight, UFC President Dana White informed the broadcast team that Ontiveros has full feeling and movement of all of his extremities.
The Official Result
Kevin Holland def. Charlie Ontiveros R1 2:39 via TKO (Verbal Submission to Slam)
Expert Picks (3)
Big Brady thinks Holland's reach and technical striking give him an edge, but acknowledges the fight could go either way. He notes both fighters have questionable cardio and that Holland's chin is solid. He predicts a close decision win for Holland.
Murad is the more technical striker with good boxing and body work. Holland is unorthodox and may disrupt Murad's rhythm, but Murad's skill set should prevail if he can handle the awkwardness. Murad by decision is the pick.
The MMA Guru picks Kevin Holland to win by submission in the second or first round, citing Holland's activity and reach advantage. He expects Holland to out-strike Muradov early, causing Muradov to shoot a takedown and get caught in a guillotine or D'Arce choke. He notes the odds are -175 for Holland and +137 for Muradov, and suggests betting on Holland now as the line may tighten.
