Melissa Croden vs. Tainara Lisboa
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Odds: Lisboa (-125); Croden (+105)

Round 1
For the past two years, the UFC has shipped up to Canada twice. This is the latter trip, a Fight Night in Vancouver, and it is a bit of a mixed bag. The final seven (with an asterisk) fights on the lineup will feature a Canadian against a foreign adversary, as is the custom for the promotion as of late to set up a plethora of local competitors against those from another country. Recently, the home country fighters have fared well, but the numbers may not be on their side tonight. Of the 26 athletes plying their trades tonight, 16 of them lost their last bout while four are on losing streaks. Twelve combatants hold UFC records of .500 or lower, although there are a pair of newcomers to the promotion on the billing including one in the curtain jerker here. At 135 pounds, “Scare” Croden (6-2, 0-0 UFC)—as far as name-based nicknames go, this is a good one—makes her first walk to the cage on home soil against Brazil’s Lisboa (7-3, 2-1 UFC). The two ladies will be joined in the cage by referee John Cooper, who steps back as the two clap hands together. It’s showtime.
After a brief feeling-out process, the Canadian starts work on the leg of the “Thai Panther.” She lands kicks on the inside and out, and Lisboa fires back with a short, crisp combination of punches. Croden flicks out a jab and tosses a low kick behind it, and once more, Lisboa is ready for the counters. Croden chambers and releases a thudding body kick, and Lisboa catches it and smacks her in the face before releasing it. Croden rushes forward into a pair of knees, clinching up but ultimately getting bullied to the wall by the Brazilian. The two stall out, and the crowd already is showering the two with boos less than two minutes in. It could be because the Canadian’s back is to the wall, and not based on a relative lack of activity. Lisboa forces the break with an elbow, and she slips back and connects with a stern calf kick. Croden ducks down and lets go with a body kick, and the punches from the Brazilian whiz past her.
Croden slowly maneuvers her way forward, and Lisboa consistently connects with three or four punches every time she gets off. They clinch, and the fans start booing until the Canadian turns her foe around. They score short clinch strikes, and Lisboa lashes out with an elbow to break and slash open a cut under the local lady’s left eye. A Croden push kick intercepts a spinning Lisboa, and when Lisboa settles down, Croden jabs her in the face and rings her bell. Lisboa has to charge in to clinch and get her bearings, and Croden shoves her off and races in behind a pair of punches. Croden slips and moves a trio of punches to work her jab in, and her low kick does some work when Lisboa sits down on a hard right hand. When Croden tosses a naked body kick, Lisboa belts her in the nose with a right hand that opens up the Canadian’s nose. Lisboa stings her with a one-two, and Croden throws back recklessly. Lisboa stands her up, and although she eats a straight right on the way out, she lands the heavier of the two as the round concludes.

Round 2
The ladies touch ‘em up to start off the second stanza, and Lisboa takes to the center of the cage while Croden gets behind her jab. Lisboa throws caution to the wind and strings together a few punches that open up Croden’s nose again, and the leaking Canadian’s philtrum and mouth matches her red fight attire. Lisboa initiates the clinch and works the body with knees, and she trips her opponent and lands on top for a second. Croden quickly wall-walks her way upright and breaks free, and the blood is flowing out of her nostrils. Croden reaches forward and gets caught, and she calms herself and looses a head kick that smacks the Brazilian upside the head. Lisboa punches her way into a tie-up, and the crowd noise comes and goes in waves in support or disappointment depending on how the Canadian is faring—there are a lot of fans in the building for the first fight of the night.
Croden uses her opponent’s momentum against her, tripping Lisboa to her seat, although she cannot keep her there for long. Croden gets in close, and she manages to trip out Lisboa a second time. This time, she lands on top and starts bashing the Brazilian with a stream of right hands. Lisboa fights to her feet while under fire, and Croden is not about to let her off the hook and keeps working her over. When Lisboa splits, “Scare” puts a scare into her by charging with her arms extended. Croden strings punches into a low kick, and suddenly Lisboa does not seem to know what to do. The newcomer collides into her foe with her fists, knocking Lisboa to her seat. Lisboa lands on her back and sets up an armbar, so Croden calmly responds with knees to the shoulder until the horn blares.

Sherdog Scores
Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Croden
Ben Duffy scores the round: 10-9 Croden
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Croden

Round 3
Croden is fired up to start off the last round, and the fans feed her with energy as every time she lands, they cheer. Croden sticks and moves, potshotting Lisboa and getting out of harm’s way in time. Croden lunges in with three or four punches, and Lisboa’s counters hit nothing but air. Croden pounds her foe’s front leg, and Lisboa responds with a full-throated double-leg takedown attempt. The Brazilian completes it, but after about three seconds, Croden is back upright and turning Lisboa to her back on the chain links. A level change from Lisboa is answered by Croden lowering herself down and muscling “Thai Panther” to the floor through sheer force of will. Lisboa hunts for a sweep, so Croden replies with a cruel can opener on the back of the neck. Lisboa throws her legs up and rolls for an armbar, but she turns too far and gives Croden the opportunity to counter her with an irritating triangle choke position.
Croden decides to stand up, lording over Lisboa and pushing her legs out of the way to reclaim top position. When Lisboa turns to her knees in hopes of standing, Croden bashes her repeatedly in the side of the dome. Lisboa desperately looks for an armbar or something off her back, but the large Canadian pushes through it all without effort and climbs into half guard. The punches and elbows from Croden briefly open the guard up, but she decides not to take it and instead uses her weight and pressure to keep Lisboa on her back. Croden clubs Lisboa with ground strikes, and Lisboa somehow manages to stand up despite taking all that damage. Croden walks her down, busting her in the chops and not letting her have a moment to breathe. Lisboa wilts, falling to her back while under attack, and Cooper knows that she is about out of this fight. “Scare” Croden puts the hurt on Lisboa with high-amplitude hammerfists, and as she keeps pounding on the Brazilian like a drum, Cooper has no choice but to step in. Just like that, Canadians are ahead tonight, with Croden prevailing in her promotional debut by handing the 34-year-old her first knockout loss.

Angelo Bodetti Expert picked Oct 17, 2025 (1 day before fight)

Angelo discusses both fighters but does not make a clear pick. He notes that Iasmin Lucindo (the originally scheduled opponent) is a decent striker with takedown defense issues, and Melissa Croden is a tough striker making her UFC debut. He says he will fade both fighters for fantasy purposes, indicating no strong lean either way.

"I'm probably going to fade her as a UFC debut. I'm also going to fade Iasmin Lucindo... So I'm going to fade them both."

Melissa Croden

Big Brady likes Melissa Croden's toughness and forward pressure. He notes she is strong in the clinch, has sneaky grappling, and good ground and pound. He is not impressed by Tainara Lisboa's striking and thinks Croden can push her against the cage and potentially finish. He prefers Croden at the underdog price but still picks her to win by decision.

"I am liking Croin here. I liked her much better at an underdog price tag, but I think people are kind of seeing what I'm seeing... give me Melissa Croin. I'll take her to win this fight by decision."

Cody picks Lisboa, citing her striking advantage and experience. He notes Croden has retired twice and is making her UFC debut at 34. Lisboa has fought better competition. Cody expects Lisboa to win by decision or late stoppage.

Connor Ruebusch Expert Confident picked Oct 17, 2025 (1 day before fight)
Melissa Croden

Connor picks Croden, noting her good directional game and ability to clinch and be violent. He points out that Lisboa has poor footwork and distance management, making her vulnerable to Croden's clinch entries. Connor believes Croden will be able to crash in at will and dominate in the clinch.

Croden opened +235, now -122; Lisboa opened -275, now +102. Connor is glad the odds are moving in the right direction.

Tainara Lisboa

The MMA Guru picks Tainara Lisboa (referred to as Taila Santos) over Melissa Croden. He notes that Lisboa is a kickboxer with decent submission wins, while Croden has fought lesser competition. He acknowledges Lisboa's losses but justifies them by pointing to her experience against top fighters like Valentina Shevchenko in kickboxing. He leans towards Lisboa but admits there's not much to go off.

"I'm going to go with Taila Santos. She was a kickboxer, but she's also got some decent submission wins against some okay opponents."

Luana Santos vs. Tainara Lisboa
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Santos (-130), Lisboa (+110)

Round 1
The final match among women comes at the 135-pound division, as Santos (8-2, 3-1 UFC) moves up in weight to challenge “Thai Panther” Lisboa (7-2, 2-0 UFC). The former saw her solid win streak come to a halt last August because of Casey O’Neill, but she can play spoiler to Lisboa and her own five-fight victorious stretch. Referee Herb Dean will be on call for this bantamweight battle, and the countrywomen touch ‘em up before getting down to business. Lisboa measures with her jab right off the bat, pressuring her opponent and throwing a kick at the same time Santos does. They jab at one another; Lisboa catches a kick to counter over the top. Santos sneaks in a left hand, swaying and moving as Lisboa tries to counter. Santos sticks out a front kick too long, but this is intentional as it distracts Lisboa enough and makes her try to throw back. She uses this to set up a takedown, where she bowls Lisboa over and climbs into side control. Santos uses a scarf hold to look to pass to mount, and instead gladly assumes north-south position. Lisboa tries to crawl out the back by throwing her legs up and around the back, but Santos calmly works out of it and puts herself flat in half guard. Lisboa pushes off the cage to try to get to a better position, and Santos is simultaneously looking to step into mount. This results in a stalemate, with little offense coming as Santos would rather take a dominant position. She rolls Lisboa over to try to take her back, but Lisboa calmly works to her knees. When Lisboa reaches her feet, the horn sounds.

Round 2
While they do touch gloves, Lisboa is rushing forward to get going and try to make up lost ground. She backs Santos off with her jab, and she fakes a knee and scores a body kick with her other leg. Santos times a one-two down the pipe, and she scoots away. When Lisboa sets her feet down to engage, Santos counters her over the top. As Lisboa commits to strikes, a half-hearted front kick from her leaves her wide open to the takedown. Santos gladly accepts this and puts Lisboa on her back, where she is immediately in high side control as she wraps her arms around her foe’s head with a scarf hold. Lisboa tries again to wrap her legs up and around to get the back, but she does not have the same flexibility and energy as she did the last round to get anywhere. Santos holds her down in the scarf hold position, not using it for submission purposes but instead grinding it and just making Lisboa’s life generally miserable. All of Lisboa’s flailing leg movements do nothing to improve her position, as Santos is so high up on her body flattening her out. Every so often, Santos thumps her foe with short right hands, but no blow has any significant impact. Santos considers isolating Lisboa’s right arm, but this allows Lisboa to turn her body. As Lisboa keeps turning, she inadvertently gives up her back, and Santos wraps her legs around the waist and has both hooks in. Santos climbs to maintain partial back control that she uses to slip into full mount, and she drops down a punch or two before suffocating Lisboa further. Santos uses heavy chest pressure to keep Lisboa pinned, but she is not willing to take the risk of posturing up far.
With seconds left on the clock, Santos does not ride it out and instead latches on to a keylock and/or Americana. Lisboa clings to her left arm, which is starting to torque badly as one can imagine tendons and ligaments screaming out from the unusual tension. Santos cranks with all she has, and Lisboa taps out of the sight of Dean and then speaks out.
Dean confirms with her that it was a surrender and separates the two, with Santos notching the buzzer-beating submission that has become a rarity inside the Octagon and even more infrequent among women—remarkably, the first for a female UFC fighter.

Tainara Lisboa

Angelo picks Tainara Lisboa, following the public trend as the line moved from Santos being favorite to underdog. He sees it as a 50/50 fight where Lisboa is the better striker and Santos the better grappler. He notes that Santos relies heavily on judo throws and if Lisboa can stay off the cage, she can land the more meaningful strikes. He also suggests parlaying the over 2.5 rounds in this fight with another women's fight.

Luana Santos

The host agrees with the line moving towards Santos but with not a lot of confidence. He thinks her BJJ black belt and judo background will allow her to get positions on the ground to avoid Lisboa's Muay Thai striking advantage. However, he notes Santos has been flaky in the striking realm and may have trouble if she can't close the gap. He gives her the benefit of the doubt to grind out a decision win.

The MMA Guru picks Tainara Lisboa over Ravena Oliveira, though he admits there's not much to go on. He notes Lisboa has a UFC win over Jessica-Rose Clark and has had time off to improve. He criticizes Oliveira's competition, saying her opponents have poor records (0-2 after fighting her). He believes Lisboa's experience and preparation give her the edge.

Big Brady Expert Lean picked May 8, 2023 (5 days before fight)
Jessica-Rose Clark

Big Brady picks Jessica-Rose Clark by default, calling it one of the sketchiest fights on the card. He notes Lisboa looks good on tape with a Muay Thai background and 100% finish rate, but all her wins are against low-level competition. Whenever she faced a relevant opponent (Norma Dumont, Larani Santos), she lost. Clark has fought actual UFC fighters and beaten some, though she's on a two-fight skid. Brady expects Clark to win by decision but has no confidence and won't bet on it.

Cody Saftic Expert Confident picked May 10, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Jessica-Rose Clark

Cody picks Clark, citing her physical strength, experience, and ability to grind against the cage. He notes that Clark's recent losses came against grapplers, while Lisboa is a striker with poor grappling. He expects Clark to implement her game plan of clinching and takedowns. He acknowledges Clark's broken arm and layoff but believes she has the edge.

"I would have to take Rose Clark even money but as I say that you might as well wait I mean like keep moving buddy yeah she broke her arm she's been on for 10 months she's 35."

Connor Ruebusch Expert Lean picked May 11, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Jessica-Rose Clark

Connor picks Clark, noting that Lisboa is very formless with bad technique and that Clark's wrestling, even if panicked, should be enough. He points out that Clark has beaten athletes before and that Lisboa lacks a single threatening skill. Connor expects Clark to win, but with low confidence due to Clark's mental fragility.

"I think I have to too. And I think that honestly, the, the panic into wrestling is why."

Daniel Levi Expert Lean picked May 11, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Tainara Lisboa

Daniel Levi leans with the newcomer Tainara Lisboa, believing her trajectory is higher than Jessica-Rose Clark's, who appears to be on a decline. He notes Clark's recent losses and that Lisboa, a Muay Thai champion, has crushed lower-level competition. While Clark has more experience, Levi thinks Lisboa's upside and youth give her the edge in a fight that could go either way.

"I'm gonna lean with the newcomer man I just think that her trajectory is slightly higher at this point in their respective careers"
MM
MMA Lock of the Night Expert Lean picked May 8, 2023 (5 days before fight)
Jessica-Rose Clark

Clark's physicality and grappling experience should be too much for Lisboa, who has faced low-level competition. Clark can shut down Lisboa's Muay Thai with clinch and ground work, outmuscle her, and win by decision. However, confidence is low due to Clark's recent losses and Lisboa's potential improvement.

"I think she wins I think she'll come up with a good enough game plan to shut down that Muay Thai of Lisboa and just put it through the ringer in terms of the grappling ROM and clinch game"

Angelo picks Shanelle Dyer despite her recent Contender Series loss where she was dropped three times. He notes she is a dangerous striker, incredibly tough, and never stops moving forward. He believes Ravena Oliveira can be hit and doesn't see her having success. He acknowledges the -400 odds seem crazy but points to Dyer's ability to put a beating on someone.

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Mar 16, 2026 (5 days before fight)
Shanelle Dyer

Big Brady is very confident in Shanelle Dyer, calling her the much better striker and noting that Ravena Oliveira has no power to make Dyer pay for her defensive flaws. He points out that Oliveira hasn't won a fight in five years, is 0-2 in the UFC, and didn't attempt any takedowns in her last fight. Even if Oliveira tries to grapple, Dyer has good takedown defense. He predicts a decision win but wouldn't be shocked by a finish.
