Round 1
The main card opens up with a matchup as old as time, when the old lion and former champ dos Santos (21-8, 15-7 UFC) squares off with the young, hungry unbeaten up-and-comer Gane (6-0, 3-0 UFC). Keeping tabs on this heavyweight contest with two men combining for 21 stoppages across their 27 wins will be referee Jerin Valel. The glove touch checks in the bout, and we are underway! Both men are light on their feet in the early going, with neither committing on their strikes until Gane lands a leg kick. Gane reaches forward to try to lock on to a front choke from a standing position, but there is nothing to it so dos Santos shoves Gane away. Gane connects with several effective leg kicks, and dos Santos sits down on two punches but neither land flush. The Brazilian absorbs another leg kick and scores an overhand right, but he takes a hard body kick along the way. Gane lets loose a head kick, and dos Santos is barely able to block it and he returns with a leg kick of his own. The former champ marches him down and lands a punch to the body, but Gane circles out and does the same. Dos Santos sneaks in a heavy leg kick, but Gane returns fire with the same strike. Gane again fires off a head kick, and dos Santos blocks it once more but cannot make his opponent pay for it. Gane aims a leg kick while dos Santos swings a looping left hand, but the foot of the Frenchman slams into the cup and pauses the fight. Dos Santos recovers, and Valel warns Gane to close his fists as well. Gane starts up with leg kicks to both sides, and dos Santos walks through them and absorbs a front kick to the body as well. Gane chips away from a distance with leg kicks, and he scores a body kick as well, but dos Santos comes back at him with one. Gane stomps at the knee, and he drops his shin into dos Santos’ body. Dos Santos tries to grab his leg and toss him over, but Gane recovers and keeps his kicks going. Dos Santos crowds him and whiffs with a massive overhand right, so Gane targets the body and gets drilled with a spinning back kick. Two huge punches get Gane’s attention, and the Frenchman scrambles out of the way until the horn separates the two strikers.

Round 2
The glove touch kicks off the second stanza, and Gane is ready to chop down the lead leg of the ex-champ early. Dos Santos tries to return fire, and he ducks a left hand only to miss with his own. Gane digs the kicks into dos Santos’s leg, forcing a brief stance switch. Gane ducks down to throw a bit punch, and dos Santos does the same but neither can connect. Gane smashes his foot into dos Santos’’ torso, and dos Santos spins with a back fist that is feet away of his target. Dos Santos checks a kick and dings Gane with a right hand as Gane crashes forward. The Brazilian separates and gets stomp kicked in the leg. Gane works the leg with more kicks as dos Santos stalks him down, and dos Santos is unable to find his range as he swings and misses with a left hook. Gane hurts dos Santos with another leg kick, and he follows it with a piston-like jab that rocks “Cigano.” Gane steps forward with an elbow that makes dos Santos’ knees weak. A knee up the middle, and one more huge elbow lands behind dos Santos’ ear, and dos Santos falls forward and is done as Gane hammers him with a few academic punches. Valel calls the fight, and dos Santos pops up to protest the strike that may have landed on the mohawk line on the back of the head. Dos Santos calls Gane and Valel over to watch the replay, and the spot of the strike may be questionable and might draw further review at a later date. Regardless of the position of the strike – dos Santos was turning as Gane landed the blow, and Valel ruled it legal in the cage – this is a stellar performance for Gane, notching by far the biggest win of his career over a former champion.

We’ve finally arrived at the main event, a five-round heavyweight bout between knockout artists Junior dos Santos and Derrick Lewis. The referee for the main event is Herb Dean. Lewis lands a hard leg kick and dos Santos returns with one of his own. Lewis with a high kick but dos Santos blocks it. Dos Santos accidentally poked Lewis in the eye and Herb Dean pauses the fight. Dean gives dos Santos a stern warning to keep his hand closed. Lewis with a body kick. Dos Santos with a spinning back fist. Lewis catches him with a counter straight right that knocks dos Santos backwards, though he doesn’t fall down. Dos Santos with a massive overhand right that rocks Lewis. As Dos Santos moves in lewis lands a right hook of his own that sends dos Santos backwards. Crazy heavyweight action here. Lewis just misses landing an overhand right as dos Santos ducks under it. Dos Santos with a straight right. Low kick by dos Santos. Lewis just misses landing a high kick. Spinning back kick by dos Santos that hurts Lewis. He is clutching over in pain. Round 1
Tuivasa lunges forward aggressively and stumbles into the cage after missing a combination. Tuivasa is getting a little wild in his pursuit early on, as he falls forward again. Dos Santos circles on the outside, looking to jab the body. Tuivasa ties up his opponent and presses him into the fence. Dos Santos breaks free and comes up short on a spinning back kick. “Cigano” whiffs on a massive overhand. A short right from JDS catches Tuivasa coming in. “Bam Bam” is unfazed and he clinches, landing an elbow on the break. A spinning back kick up high glances past Tuivasa’s head. A right uppercut lands for dos Santos, but Tuivasa remains in pursuit. A low kick by Tuivasa makes JDS stumble. Tuivasa moves into the clinch, and he goes to the body and then lands a big punch upstairs. Tuivasa finds the Brazilian’s chin once more before forcing another clinch. Dos Santos’ mobility already looks hindered at the outset of the period due to the leg kick from the previous round. Tuivasa punches his way into the clinch. then they separate. Tuivasa follows an overhand right back into the clinch once again. Dos Santos checks a leg kick and lands one of his own. Tuivasa lands a right to the body and presses the Brazilian back into the fence. The former heavyweight champ rocks Tuivasa, who shakes it off and waves his foe on. Dos Santos tags an onrushing Tuivasa with a left hook to the chin, then drops him with a short right. JDS follows his foe to the mat and ends up in side control, where he drops short elbows to the head. “Cigano” moves to mount. He postures up and unloads with punches and hammerfists. Roy Nelson vs. Alexander Volkov

Round 1
Volkov attacks with an early head kick which is blocked but knocks Nelson off balance, leading to a brief clinch on the fence. Nelson inches forward on the towering Russian, who fends off "Big Country" with some kicks to the body. Nelson shoots in on a single-leg, can't get it and winds up pressing Volkov against the wall with an underhook. Double underhooks for Nelson now, looking for the outside trip, but Volkov defends well and keeps his footing. Volkov reverses to the outside and gives Nelson a few knees to the gut. Nelson reaches around the back to hook Volkov's rear leg and now manages to complete the trip. Volkov sits up against the fence, nearly stands but has his right ankle picked out from under him, and Nelson maintains top position. Nelson puts the top of his head underneath Volkov's jaw and keeps his head trapped against the fence as he works to flatten out the Russian on the ground. Volkov is fishing for something from guard, perhaps a triangle or kimura, but Nelson is giving him no space to work. With little happening on the ground, referee Dan Miragliotta orders the fighters back to their feet inside the final 30 seconds. Volkov blitzes Nelson with punches and knees, forcing "Big Country" to back up to the cage. Nelson hangs in the pocket with Volkov, however, and even slugs "Drago" back with a big right hand just before the horn.

Round 2
Nelson looks a bit more tentative after a frantic end to the first round, but he soon works his way back inside and pins Volkov to the fence. Volkov works an overhook and wrist control, making it tough for Nelson to work for his double-leg. Volkov breaks loose and lands a pair of punches, followed by a kick to the midsection. Nelson steps forward again, hands low, then shoots in behind a leg kick to try the double. Volkov denies the shot and pushes Nelson back to the middle of the cage to resume striking. Volkov's jabs and kicks are keeping Nelson on the outside, but the former IFL heavyweight manages to get through with a bombing overhand right. Both big men are looking tired as they hit the final minute of round two, but it's Volkov continuing to snap off jabs and stifle Nelson's attacks. Volkov blocks an overhand right and dings Nelson with a counter right hand. Nelson tries a late shot, stuffed by Volkov, and Nelson gives him a mocking wide-eyed stare as time runs out.

Round 3
Volkov steps backward as Nelson comes forward, stuffing a shot from "Big Country" and roughing up the American with punches as he tries to get back to his feet. It's more measured striking and long jabs from Volkov here in the final round, never allowing the tired Nelson to get too close. Nelson is breathing heavy as he walks forward with his hands held low, Volkov continually placing front kicks in his breadbasket. Nelson charges forward and lands an uppercut, but after circling away, Volkov gets right back to his jabbing and kicking. Two minutes left as Nelson continues to try and get inside; instead, he gets more kicks to the midsection, more jabs to the face. Volkov rocks the head of Nelson with a right straight-uppercut and a kick to the body, then closes out the fight with a few more body kicks.

Derrick Lewis vs. Roy Nelson

Round 1
Lewis opens with a couple kicks to the midsection of Nelson, who stakes out the center of the cage to start the fight. Nelson runs at Lewis with a right hand, misses and winds up pressing the “Black Beast” against the fence. Lewis widens his base and stays vertical with the help of a cage post, while Nelson stays glued on and tries to wrestle the larger man to the floor. After a minute or so of inactivity, referee John McCarthy separates the big men. Lewis bursts forward with punches and a head kick, but Nelson changes levels and drives him to the mat for the first takedown of the bout. Lewis powers back to his feet and drills Nelson with a knee to the stomach, then follows up with two or three big uppercuts as Nelson tries to wheel away. Nelson gets hold of Lewis and pushes him against the fence again, slowing the pace with 90 seconds on the clock. Referee McCarthy breaks them up again with 30 seconds remaining in the round, and Lewis goes on the offensive with more big uppercuts. Nelson looks hurt, stumbling backward as Lewis attacks, but once again “Big Country” is able to wrap up his opponent for a takedown.

Round 2
Both heavyweights are looking for the homerun shot early in the second stanza, but Nelson’s right hand pulls up short and Lewis’ is deflected. Nelson steps forward slowly while Lewis backs away, leading to an uneventful couple of minutes at the top of the round. Two minutes in, Nelson digs an underhook and shoves Lewis against the wall. “Big Country” gets the takedown and passes to side control, then leans right to left across Lewis’ body to frame up a kimura. While Nelson looks for the submission, Lewis rolls free and powers back to his feet. The escape is short-lived, as Nelson pulls him right back to the canvas. Lewis gets up again, only to be taken down again, and now Nelson puts his weight on his opponent from cross-side control. Lewis is back up again with only seconds to go, and he finishes the round swinging.

Round 3
Nelson goes after an early takedown and succeeds in single-legging Lewis to the ground near the fence in the opening minute of the round. Lewis works slowly back to his feet but can’t escape the clutches of “Big Country,” who holds Lewis on the fence until he’s able to take him down again. Lewis gets up again, but Nelson stays stuck on him, throwing knees to the legs and body as they rest in a weary clinch. Referee McCarthy resets the fighters with just over a minute on the clock, and Lewis wastes no time in slugging Nelson with a right hand. Lewis follows with a kick to the body, closes in on Nelson near the fence and hits him with a pair of rights. Nelson wraps him up in a bodylock, but Lewis separates with 20 seconds left. Nelson gets caught flailing and eats a huge right hand, but it could be too little, too late for Lewis.
