Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident picked Nov 3, 2024 (6 days before fight)
Da'Mon Blackshear

Angelo believes Da'Mon Blackshear is the better fighter with far better striking and good wrestling. He thinks Cody Stamann will get outstruck and then shoot sloppy takedowns. However, he notes Blackshear is 2-4 in the UFC and hasn't had a key win over a division staple like Stamann, so he is not confident enough to bet. He might consider a plus 3.5 round bet on Stamann if the odds are good.

considering plus 3.5 round bet on Cody Stamann if odds are favorable
"Daman is just the better fighter here in my opinion he's got the far better striking even though Cody's been boxing for a very long time Daman is faster and he's more than just hands"
BI
Big Brady Expert Confident picked Nov 7, 2024 (2 days before fight)
Da'Mon Blackshear

Big Brady favors Blackshear due to his size, reach, and youth advantage over the 35-year-old Stamann. He believes Blackshear's striking is underrated and his grappling is elite, with a black belt in BJJ. He expects Blackshear to have success wherever the fight goes and predicts a decision win, though he acknowledges the line may be too wide.

Blackshear by decision
"I'm going to take blackshire to win this fight I'll take him to win this fight by decision"

Cody Saftic Expert Confident picked Nov 6, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Cody Stamann

Cody is high on Stamann as a dog, citing Blackshear's cardio issues and lack of power. He notes Stamann's wrestling credentials and ability to get back up from takedowns. Cody expects a close decision and thinks the +230 line is too wide for a veteran like Stamann.

"I think Cody ston as a doger pass type situation plus 230 on Cody staman like me likey me likey."
CO
Connor Ruebusch Expert Lean picked Nov 8, 2024 (1 day before fight)
Cody Stamann

Connor picks Stamann, noting Blackshear is too willing to start from negative positions and it has cost him. He thinks Stamann's neutralizer style will make Blackshear make mistakes. Connor expects a narrow split decision, possibly ugly. He mentions Stamann is the underdog at +217 to +232.

Odds: Stamann +217 to +232, Blackshear -254 to -275. Connor says 'Surprising. I mean, I get that Stamann's coming, you know, he's lost a lot of fights lately, but you can't have to look at, have you seen the fight?'
"I think I have to, I have to pick Stamen. Blackshear is too willing to start from negative positions and it's cost him regularly."
DA
Daniel Vreeland Expert Lean picked Nov 6, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Da'Mon Blackshear

Daniel Vreeland picks Da'Mon Blackshear, citing his physical advantages (reach, height) and higher aspirations compared to Cody Stamann, who may be nearing retirement. He acknowledges Stamann's takedown defense and ability to make fights close, but believes Blackshear's grappling and motivation give him the edge. Vreeland expects a close fight.

"I'm gonna pick him for that reason but I would not at all be surprised if this was a very close fight."
MM
MMA Lock of the Night Expert Confident picked Nov 8, 2024 (1 day before fight)
Cody Stamann

Stamann is being overlooked as a +230 underdog. His defensive wrestling should keep him away from Blackshear's BJJ, allowing him to dictate the striking pace and pull away in the second and third rounds as Blackshear slows down. Expect a decision win.

underdog +230, wins by decision
"I do believe staman is being overlooked as he is a plus 230 Underdog I believe his defensive wrestling will allow him to stay away from the BJJ heavy approach of black here allowing him to dictate the pace in the Striking room and pulling away in the second and third rounds as black Shar starts to slow down look for statement to get his hand raised by decision"

Paul Shaughnessy Expert Confident picked Nov 6, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Cody Stamann

Paul agrees, questioning how Blackshear can be such a favorite given his recent KO loss and cardio problems. He thinks Stamann's experience and wrestling will keep the fight competitive, and the price is too good to pass up. Paul calls it a clear dogger pass.

"Clear clear dogger pass I will have money on staman as well this week."

The MMA Guru Expert Confident picked Nov 6, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Da'Mon Blackshear

The Guru picks Da'Mon Blackshear, citing his size, strength, and youth. He criticizes Cody Stamann's lack of finishing ability and short reach. He notes Blackshear gave Mario Bautista a tough fight and believes he is the better fighter. He mentions the odds might be worth betting on Blackshear as a favorite.

Zane Simon Expert Lean picked Nov 8, 2024 (1 day before fight)
Cody Stamann

Zane picks Stamann, agreeing with Connor. He describes Stamann as a solid defensive striker who can bang in the pocket, but notes he never presses advantages. Zane thinks Blackshear's poor striking and tendency to start from negative positions will allow Stamann to neutralize him. He expects a narrow split decision.

Odds: Stamann +217 to +232, Blackshear -254 to -275. Zane says 'Surprising. I mean, I get that Stamann's coming, you know, he's lost a lot of fights lately, but you can't have to look at, have you seen the fight?'
"I think I have to, I have to pick Stamen. Blackshear is too willing to start from negative positions and it's cost him regularly."

AN
Angelo Bodetti Expert Lean picked Jun 7, 2024 (1 day before fight)
Taylor Lapilus

Angelo picks Taylor Lapilus, citing his superior kickboxing and outstanding takedown defense. He notes that Cody Stamann is well-rounded but lacks power, and Taylor's ability to work in and out of range should be key. However, he worries that Taylor might be too tentative like in his last fight, where he was afraid of takedowns and didn't throw enough. He thinks Taylor is the better overall fighter but the fight could be close.

"I am going to leave Taylor lean Taylor I think he's the overall strugling man call hey it's okay man"

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Jun 5, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Taylor Lapilus

Big Brady picks Taylor Lapilus to win by decision. He highlights Lapilus's elite takedown defense and get-up game, as well as a 9-inch reach advantage. He notes that Cody Stamann hasn't wrestled since 2020 and has only completed five takedowns, so the fight will likely stay standing where Lapilus has the edge.

"give me lapis here to win by decision"

Cody Saftic Expert Confident picked Jun 5, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Taylor Lapilus

Cody picks Lapilus, noting that Stamann has been inactive and has not looked interested in wrestling recently. Lapilus is a smooth striker with good takedown defense. Cody expects Lapilus to outpoint Stamann on the feet and win a decision. He trusts Lapilus' activity and technical striking.

"I'm going to go with Lis but again I think it's just going to be close contentious type spot with Lis he's a smooth Striker Smooth Operator he likes to play to the outside he's got good leg kicks good long jab"

Daniel Levi Expert Confident picked Jun 5, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Cody Stamann

Daniel confidently picks Stamann as a plus-money underdog, arguing that Lapilus fights close decisions and doesn't run through opponents. He notes Stamann is experienced and competitive with everyone, and that the line is too wide. He expects a controversial split decision for Stamann.

controversial split decision
"I'm gonna go Cody Stamann via controversial Split Decision here"

Jacob Lines Expert Confident picked Jun 7, 2024 (1 day before fight)
Taylor Lapilus

Jacob picks Taylor Lapilus, agreeing with the odds. He notes that Taylor is probably twice the fighter Cody is, with great striking and takedown defense. Cody is tough and has boxing and wrestling, but Jacob thinks Taylor's skills should win the fight, likely by decision. He warns that the -250 odds might make people sweat because Cody is no pushover and could win rounds. He also mentions that Taylor's -3.5 round line might be risky because Taylor is not high volume.

Taylor Lapilus by decision, -3.5 rounds is risky
"I think Taylor is definitely probably the better overall fighter here I you know I do it's it's kind of a weird break down here because I do agree with the odds - 250- 275"

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Lean picked Jun 4, 2024 (4 days before fight)
Taylor Lapilus

Lapilus has speed and striking advantage from distance, but his takedown defense is a concern. Stamann has a wrestling background but doesn't use it enough. Lapilus should land better strikes and stuff takedowns to win a decision, but the line at -265 is too wide for comfort.

"I still do end up leaning on the tailor lap side just this line is a little bit too wide for me to get comfortable with so I will pick lapis to win this fight I'll pick him to Win It by decision"
PA
Paul Shaughnessy Expert Confident picked Jun 5, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Taylor Lapilus

Paul picks Lapilus, noting that Stamann has not used his wrestling in recent fights and seems to have lost interest. Lapilus is the better striker and should win a competitive decision. Paul thinks Stamann's inactivity and lack of urgency will cost him.

"I side with you that like if I I really can't trust in stamman to lean on a wrestling heavy game plan um against lapis and I feel like he's going to need that type of style to win this fight so lapis probably wins a relatively competitive but convincing decision"
TH
The MMA Guru Expert Confident picked Jun 5, 2024 (3 days before fight)
Taylor Lapilus

The Guru picks Lapilus because Stamann is past his prime, hasn't fought in over a year, and struggles to implement his wrestling. Lapilus is tall and rangy, making it difficult for Stamann to find the inside. He thinks Stamann's takedown attempts will be fruitless as Lapilus can frame and get back to his feet. He expects Lapilus to outwork Stamann on the inside with knees.

"Taylor lapilus is tall rangy difficult to find the inside of um and I think that's going to be a problem for Cody ston here"

Cody Stamann

Angelo gives a slight lean to Cody Stamann, citing his wrestling and pace. He notes Douglas Silva de Andrade hits hard and is strong at 135, but Stamann can stick with the pace. He says both are durable and if he bets, it would be over 2.5 rounds. He calls it a slight lean.

Big Brady Expert Lean picked May 8, 2023 (5 days before fight)
Douglas Silva de Andrade

Big Brady sees this as a close fight. He notes Stamann has a volume edge on the feet, but Andrade has a four-inch reach advantage and all the power and finishing upside. He mentions Andrade has good takedown defense and an excellent get-up game, making it hard for Stamann to hold him down. Brady expects a competitive striking match that likely goes to decision, and picks Andrade to win by landing the bigger shots and having the bigger moments, possibly via split decision.

The Guru picks Stamann despite acknowledging the risk of decline. He notes Stamann's losses are to top bantamweights like Sterling, Develashvili, and Rivera, and he beat Eddie Wineland convincingly. At 33, Stamann is still hungry and training at Extreme Couture. The Guru believes Lacerda is not on the level of Sayed or Song to submit Stamann, and that Stamann's wrestling and pressure will carry him to a 29-28 decision after surviving an early bad situation.

"I'm going with Cody stamen this is a dangerous one to pick because you know we never really know when a guy like Cody stamen's really going to start showing that decline"

Zane picks Stamann because Lacerda is too passive and slow-paced. Stamann is a good wrestler who can enforce his game. Lacerda's submissions come from wrestling, but he won't outwrestle Stamann. Stamann is tough and durable.

Cody Stamann

Angelo picks Cody Stamann, citing his well-rounded skills, wrestling background, and pace. He notes Stamann averages almost 3 takedowns per fight and has no problem getting in his opponent's face. He acknowledges Eddie Wineland's experience and danger but believes Stamann's wrestling and pace will be the difference.

"cody stayman is the pick here but proper respect should be shown to somebody as experienced and as dangerous as eddie weinland"

Cody Stamann

Big Brady picks Cody Stamann to win by second-round knockout. He acknowledges Stamann is a wrestler but believes he can outstrike Wineland, who has poor striking defense and a weak chin. He notes Wineland's takedown defense is historically good, but Stamann's power and Wineland's decline make a knockout likely.

Daniel Levi confidently picks Cody Stamann, noting Eddie Wineland is damaged goods at 38 and has been knocked out by lesser fighters. Stamann is a competent, well-rounded fighter who wins rounds, though he rarely finishes. Levi expects a unanimous decision but acknowledges the -700 price is not worth betting. He simply states Stamann is the pick.

Cody Stamann

The MMA Guru confidently picks Cody Stamann, calling it a no-brainer. He notes that Eddie Wineland is 37 and has taken a lot of damage, while Stamann is younger and has good grappling. He expects Stamann to use his wrestling to secure takedowns and ride out a 30-27 decision, as Wineland is a veteran unlikely to be submitted but unable to stop the grappling.

Levi thinks Stamann can be competitive with anyone and that the fight could be a split decision. He ultimately gives a slight edge to Nurmagomedov due to his flashy striking and crowd-pleasing style.

Cody Stamann

Cody is intrigued by Cody Stamann as an underdog. He notes that Merab's takedowns are often stuffed by better competition, as seen in the John Dodson fight (2 for 20). He thinks Stamann has the better striking and can stuff takedowns, making it a close competitive fight. He also mentions that Merab's main training partner Aljamain Sterling is out with surgery, which could affect his preparation. He acknowledges the sweat because Merab's grinding style is tough to bet against, but at +215 he finds it generous enough.

Paul is leaning toward Merab, noting that he has made tons of improvements and is a grinding machine. He acknowledges that Stamann is a better striker and has decent wrestling, but Merab's relentless takedown pace could overwhelm him. He mentions that Merab's takedown numbers are impressive (11-13 per fight) and that even if Stamann gets up, Merab will drag him back down. However, he is not convinced Merab can dominate wrestling exchanges against Stamann, and he prefers the 'Merab by decision' prop at -125.

Cody Stamann vs. Yadong Song

Round 1
Remaining at bantamweight, two fast rising prospects in Stamann (18-2, 4-1 UFC) and Song (15-4, 1 NC; 4-0 UFC) come to blows. Kevin Mulhall is our referee for this bantamweight fight, and it has a lot of competition from the last one if these two are vying for "Fight of the Night." There is not a touch of gloves, and the two stand apart from one another for the opening minute trying to find their range. Song whiffs on two looping hooks, and he follows those punches with a quick combination that catches Stamann off guard. Stamann whiffs on his own punches, and Song bounces off the cage to circle away. A spinning back fist chains into a spinning wheel kick from "Kung Fu Monkey," but he is well off the mark. The American waits for Song to stop throwing spinning strikes before timing a takedown and landing it against the fence. Song sets up a guillotine choke while Stamann is shooting in, and it looks tight. Stamann signals to the referee that he is fine, and Song unleashes a fierce knee while one of Stamann's knees is on the ground. Stamann topples to the ground clutching his head, and Mulhall takes one point from Song. The action restarts quickly, and Song is rushing at Stamann with strikes but misses. Stamann presses forward and fakes a takedown, drawing a big sprawl from Song. Concerned about the potential takedown, Song overreacts to every potential takedown attempt from Stamann, although Stamann finally lands one in the center of the cage. Song tries to roll out but Stamann jumps on top as the horn sounds.

Round 2
No gloves are touched to start the second stanza, as Song rushes forward to initiate the action. Song wings a right hand that glances off the mark, causing Stamann to back away and have Song chase him and land one more. Stamann shoots in for a takedown and is stuffed, but Song wisely chooses not to throw a knee while Stamann is grounded. As Stamann breaks free, Song takes the center of the cage and throws a heavy leg kick that turns Stamann around. A counter from Stamann leads to a combination from Song, and Song bloodies up the American's nose and eliciting a shrug. Song presses in to consider a takedown of his own, but instead scores an elbow on the break. Sensing the opportunity, Stamann shoots in from a distance and lands a takedown. Song tries to counter with more than one submission attempt, and as he looks for a sweep, they roll away and stand back up. Song clips Stamann with a right hand, and then catches a kick that comes back at him. A single leg takedown from Stamann allows him to elevate Song and slam him down, where he takes side control. Trying to angle for some ground-and-pound, followed by a brief search for an arm-triangle choke, Stamann is reversed with 30 seconds remaining. Song postures up and slams down a heavy elbow, to which Stamann laughs it off and shakes his head. Song hangs on tight as the round ends with Stamann slapping him repeatedly.

Round 3
The last round opens with Song pressing the action like the previous frame. A one-two from Song is countered by punches from Stamann, although he is able to evade those strikes. Stamann hits a takedown and Song is quick to scramble, rolling out and briefly pulling for a leglock. Stamann spins out and takes top position, but Song tries to spin out and nearly escapes. Stamann remains heavy and holds Song down, but is unable to mount any particularly effective offense while on top. Stamann takes half guard, and Song tries to push him off as Mulhall calls for them to stay busy. Stamann sits up to drop down some heavy punches, bouncing Song's head off the canvas, and using the strikes to take full mount. With a minute remaining, Stamann throws more punches, causing Song to give up his back. Stamann fishes for a choke but there is nothing there, so he takes mount and starts unloading punches. The 10-second clapper allows for Song to nearly escape, but Stamann holds tight and ends the round with more ground-and-pound.

Cody Stamann vs. Aljamain Sterling

Round 1
Sterling blocks a head kick from Stamann, then cracks the "Spartan" with a few speedy right hands. Stamann throws some reaching combinations but can't find the distance early against the longer-limbed Sterling. An early takedown attempt from Sterling is stuffed by Stamann, who continues to walk forward on Sterling here in the first half of round one. Sterling shoots again, this time putting Stamann up against the fence, where the "Funkmaster" tries to frustrate his opponent with some foot stomps. Stamann reverses to the outside with double underhooks as the 135ers hit the midway point of the frame. Stamann changes levels to try a high double, but Sterling widens his base to block it and then escapes the clinch. Sterling throws a spinning backfist and catches Stamann with a forearm to the face. In a flash, Sterling rolls underneath to try a leglock, but Stamann defends well and stands up. Stamann scores a takedown, but he soon finds himself caught in a Sterling triangle. There's just a bit of space left in the triangle, enough for Stamann to stay conscious and, after a few nervous seconds, escape from the choke. Sterling scrambles to his feet, but Stamann sends him back to the mat with a slam in the final 10 seconds.

Round 2
Sterling scores a takedown, then tries to secure back-mount as he and Stamann grapple at the foot of the fence. Before "Aljo" can get his hooks in, Stamann turns around, reversing the position. Now it's Stamann keeping Sterling on his seat up against the wall, but the bantamweights soon work back to their feet. Sterling lands a clinch knee before separating from Stamann and backing up a few steps. Back comes Sterling, wrapping up and tossing Stamann to the ground, then slickly stepping over to full mount. Stamann rolls over, giving up his back, but Sterling is in danger of sliding off as Stamann postures up. Sterling uses a full nelson to drive Stamann's face into the canvas. Stamann tries to stand again with Sterling still on his back; this time,
Sterling gets hold of Stamann's left leg and wrenches it sideways, and the "stump puller" kneebar variation causes Stamann to tap
almost instantly.
