Mike Perry vs. Daniel Rodriguez

Round 1
The main card begins with what should be a violent encounter at welterweight, when Perry (14-7, 7-7 UFC) tries to get back in the win column against “D-Rod” Rodriguez (13-2, 3-1 UFC). The latter walked out to DMX’s “What’s My Name” but the organization did not have the good sense to televise the only walkout tonight with a DMX track, moments after posting a memorial image for the recently passed rap icon. Both men sport exactly 11 finishes in their respective careers, and referee Mike Beltran will need to keep his head on a swivel for this potential banger. There is a glove touch before these two handle their business. Rodriguez scores a few leg kicks from the outside while Perry closes the distance, and “D-Rod” slings a head kick up quick. Perry eats it and responds with one to the body, before winging a right hand that catches Rodriguez on the brow. “Platinum” walks forward into a few punches, and he is not rattled when he throws a leg kick back. Rodriguez surprises Perry with a one-two, and there is already damage to Perry’s nose. Rodriguez gets off a leg kick, and Perry replies in kind. Perry eats a body kick and charges in to attack, landing a right hand as Rodriguez tries to roll with it. A huge leg kick is followed by a nasty one-two that rocks Perry, and Rodriguez does not go wild searching for a finish and keeps doing damage. Rodriguez sticks out several jabs and leg kicks, and a right hand sends Perry off-balance. Perry wings a right hand but comes up shy of the mark, as Rodriguez chips away at his lead leg. “Platinum” has a head kick blocked, and he backs off when Rodriguez chases after him with a pair of punches. Rodriguez stings him with another one-two and a huge inside leg kick, and Perry is flustered as he keeps taking shots. Rodriguez dings him with another one-two, and the leg kick has Perry take a funny step back. Perry throws a huge right hand that is well off the mark, and he shoots in for a takedown to lift Rodriguez in the air. Rodriguez defends with a guillotine choke off his back, and Perry is suddenly in trouble and scrambling wildly. Perry puts down heavy shoulder pressure to possibly set up a Von Preux choke as Rodriguez has not let go of his guillotine of his back. As Perry aims to pass guard, Rodriguez bails on the choke and gets him back to full guard. Perry advances to half guard as he lays on his opponent, and he frees a hand to try to drop down shots. The round ends before Perry can land anything of note.

Round 2
Rodriguez comes out confidently from his corner, and he walks into a leg kick as he lines up a punch. Rodriguez paws out a jab, and he ducks out of the way when Perry jumps at him with a superman punch. Rodriguez keeps jabbing, and he clacks Perry in the body with a kick. Perry throws back the same kick, so Rodriguez eats it and kicks the lead leg. Rodriguez puts a one-two on Perry’s jaw, and he snaps the head back with a few jabs. The two welterweights go kick for kick, as Rodriguez lands one and Perry try to pay him back. Rodriguez reaches out with a few more jabs and leg kicks, but steps in with a power punch that nearly allows him to get countered. Perry walks through the danger to grab hold of “D-Rod,” and he lands a body lock takedown to put the California native on his back. Rodriguez scoots to the fence and climbs back up without staying down for long, and he walks directly into a big right hand. Rodriguez takes it on the chin and keeps Perry at bay with a quick uppercut. Perry begins to throw wide, telegraphed strikes while Rodriguez is largely keeping them straighter, and his quicker strikes disrupt an advancing Perry. Rodriguez snaps out his jab and body kick as Perry has no answer, with the polarizing Floridian taking a one-two flush on the way out. Both men land clean left hands at the same time, and Perry is busted up on the side of his eyebrows as they trade bombs. Rodriguez has opened up a welt on the side of Perry’s head that is swelling quickly, and he targets the same spot with a barrage of punches. Perry throws single strikes back, but Rodriguez is able to answer with punches in bunches. Perry, who strides through the fire to get there, presses into the clinch to attempt a takedown. This time, Rodriguez rebuffs him and keeps his balance to the bell. When they separate, Perry’s nose appears two shades of Andrei Arlovski or Olaf Alfonso.

Round 3
Perry shows some major damage coming out of his corner, but he is ready to continue fighting without issue. He pushes the pace in the early going, throwing looping shots that Rodriguez is easily able to avoid. Rodriguez chops his lead leg down with a few kicks, and Perry resorts to single punches to the body and head to try to keep his distance. “Platinum” rushes out with a superman punch and a head kick, and neither connect squarely as Rodriguez is on him with a body kick and a left hand. Perry throws a right hand into a takedown attempt, and Rodriguez is able to bully him over and put Perry on his hindquarters for a moment. Perry powers back up, and he eats a right hand for his effort. “D-Rod” scores a crisp one-two and a low kick to punctuate the combination, and he gets off several big shots that Perry absorbs without issue. Perry tries to respond with a few leg kicks, and a big hook is way off the mark. Rodriguez clocks Perry with a left hand, and Perry’s chin holds up as he takes a one-two and another. Both land shots at the same time, and Rodriguez follows it with a left hook. Perry loads up on a few right hands that get Rodriguez’ attention, but Rodriguez is unconcerned as he lands a right over the top. When Perry aims a leg kick, Rodriguez cracks him with a trio of punches. Perry’s head is ripe for the taking, as Rodriguez tees off on him at close range. Rodriguez reaches in with long, straight punches that snap Perry’s head back repeatedly, and he breaks up his salvos with kicks low and high. Two big punches and a body kick come from Rodriguez, and Perry’s durability is about all that remains on display. Rodriguez smashes him in the face with a brutal one-two, and Perry’s face is a bloody mess as he cannot seem to make him pay. Rodriguez suddenly changes levels for a takedown attempt to keep Perry guessing, but the Floridian turns him around and presses him into the wire. After a brief clinch, Rodriguez drills Perry with a long chain of punches until the final bell. This was largely one-way traffic for the man known as “D-Rod,” who put on a show on the first fight of the ABC portion of the event.

Big Brady picks Rodriguez to win a close decision, but he is not confident and is passing on betting. He notes that Perry is taking the fight seriously and looks in great shape, but he cannot trust Perry due to his poor striking defense and tendency to absorb damage. Brady thinks Rodriguez is more defensively sound and durable, and the fight likely goes to decision. He mentions the over might be a good look but does not bet.

Daniel Levi picks Mickey Gall for the upset, citing Perry's chaotic personal life, lack of coaching, and stagnation in skill development. He notes Gall's improvement in his last fight against Salim Touahri, showing better fight IQ and cardio. Mike Perry vs. Geoff Neal

Round 1
Headlining the ESPN2 prelims is what should be a welterweight slugfest between brawler Perry (13-5, 6-5 UFC) and the equally hard-hitting Neal (12-2, 4-0 UFC). The third man inside the Octagon is Chris Tognoni. No glove touch to start this fight, and instead Perry begins with a low leg kick. Neal comes up short with a front kick, and then comes forward with punches that Perry evades. Neal throws a low kick as a response to Perry's, so Perry keeps the kicks going with a body kick that partially lands. Neal replies with a much more emphatic body kick of his own. Both men land glancing groin kicks, and the action does not stop.
Neal cracks Perry with a huge head kick, and "Platinum" is staggered and hurt badly. Neal turns up the aggression and throws another that Perry is barely able to block, but Neal is right on him with his attack. Launching one more head kick for good measure that skims off the side of Perry's head, a furious barrage of punches follows and put Perry down as Tognoni has seen enough.
This win is a massive feather in Neal's cap, as he becomes the first fighter to ever knock out the durable Perry.

Vicente Luque vs. Mike Perry

Round 1
Our co-main event is what is sure to be an all-action welterweight battle, as Luque (16-6-1, 9-2 UFC) encounters fellow finisher Perry (13-4, 6-4 UFC). In their combined 29 wins, the two combatants have finished 26 of those opponents. Taking charge of the cage will be referee Eduardo Herdy. We begin as Luque scores with a combination, but an unafraid Perry fires right back. Perry lands a leg kick and then a strong right hand to the chest of Luque. Perry opens up with a head kick that misses, as Luque evades or blocks the most significant strikes so far. Luque lands a leg kick that makes Perry pick his feet up, and tags Perry with a straight right hand and a partially-blocked head kick. Perry charges forward with two head kicks that are both blocked. Perry sits down to throw hooks, and Luque dodges them and counters to open a cut under Perry's eye. Perry leans down and stings Luque with left hand that marks up Luque's nose. Luque jumps forward to land a knee on Perry's chin, and then a leg kick follows that up. Trading leg kicks, Perry tries for a few looping hooks that fall short. In another exchange, Luque opens up a cut on Perry's other eye, and then Luque scores with a low kick. Another low kick that stings Perry causes Perry to pick his leg up, and Perry blitzes forward to unload a barrage that causes Luque to cover up. One more leg kick ends the round as the horn sounds.

Round 2
Luque opens up with another leg kick, and Perry fires back. Luque launches a head kick, and Perry presses forward to push Luque against the fence. Perry lands a few knees in the clinch, and Luque looks up at the clock as he tries to separate. Luque throws a few head kicks that Perry avoids, and Perry responds while Luque counters as Perry comes in. Perry lands a strong right hand, and Luque counters the Floridian hard. Perry lands a few left hands and a right to the body, while Luque responds with a few kicks. Perry catches Luque and backs him against the fence, but Luque circles out. A stiff left jab snaps the head back of Luque, but Luque responds with a strong right hand that knocks some blood on the camera lens. The two go punch for punch, and Luque cracks Perry with an uppercut as they stand in front of each other and trade. Perry lands another straight right hand to the body as Luque looks to counter. They continue to land one after the other on one another, as they are very closely matched. Luque tries a jumping knee but Perry dodges, and the round ends.

Round 3
Luque starts the round off strong with a few kicks, as Perry is content to work the body of Luque. Trading leg kicks, Luque goes up high with a head kick that is just barely blocked. Luque jumps forward and lands a couple leg kicks that Perry eats. A strong body kick scores for Luque, and Perry tries to counter with hooks. Perry aims for a takedown and picks Luque's leg up but is unable to secure the takedown. Pressing Luque against the fence, Perry lands knee after knee to Luque's legs. The crowd begins to boo and whistle as they stay in the clinch, and Perry responds with a middle finger to the crowd. Herdy separates the two men and Luque goes for another leg kick. Luque jumps for a knee that completely crumples Perry's nose, but Perry uses that opportunity to take down Luque. Luque pulls for a guillotine off his back, and the blood pours from Perry's head as Perry gives the thumbs-up. Luque squeezes with all he has as Perry stays strong while punching Luque's body. Perry pops his head out with seconds remaining, and sits up to land a little ground-and-pound as the horn sounds. Outstanding fight, and easy frontrunner for "Fight of the Night."

Ramiz Brahimaj vs. Mickey Gall
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Gall (-135), Brahimaj (+114)

Round 1
It’s an all-grappling affair as the early prelims cap off here, with two men that celebrate all but one of their combined wins via submission. Home-grown UFC product Gall (7-6, 6-6 UFC) will be looking to record his first win since 2021, while Brahimaj (10-5, 2-3 UFC) is aiming to keep his 100% finish and sub rate intact. Referee Kevin MacDonald draws the assignment for this welterweight grappler’s delight, and he checks the fighters in as they share a fist bump. Brahimaj takes to the center of the cage and paws out a front kick. Gall jabs a few times, and Brahimaj sits down on a right hand to break it up. Gall jabs and opens up with a right hand to follow. Brahimaj clinches up and drives a few uppercuts to the jaw, and a knee makes him slip. Brahimaj climbs back up to his feet and marches Gall down, walking through a one-two to set up another Thai clinch. Brahimaj again uses the tie-up to set up a few strikes, and breaks off when Gall lands on him. Gall prods out jabs until getting met with an overhand right, and his one-two gets Brahimaj’s attention. Brahimaj responds with a jab and a head kick on the other side, and Gall has to take a moment to recover. Brahimaj walks him down and clubs him in the face with a right hand, and Gall backs off.
The Fortis MMA fighter strides forward, brimming with confidence, and unleashes a hellacious left and a massive right on the temple that crumples Gall. Only a few follow-up strikes from the submission specialist are needed until MacDonald gets between them
, and Brahimaj has now notched the first knockout of his career. The old gloves are in business tonight, and it has already showed.

Nov 10, 2024 (6 days before fight) Confident Mickey Gall

Angelo picks Mickey Gall, reasoning that Gall is a good grappler in his own right and a better wrestler than Brahimaj, so Brahimaj won't submit him. He notes that Brahimaj is submission-or-bust and that Gall has raw talent and athleticism. However, he advises against betting on this low-level fight due to Gall's poor recent record.

Angelo explicitly says he will not bet on this fight due to self-control, calling it a 'dog [__] fight'.

Big Brady picks Mickey Gall despite calling it a low-level fight. He notes that Ramiz Brahimaj has 10 wins, all by first-round submission, and is 0-5 when he doesn't submit his opponent in the first round. Brady believes Gall has improved striking and better cardio, and that the longer the fight goes, the more it favors Gall. He also mentions Brahimaj's long layoff and poor performance in his last fight, predicting a decision win for Gall.

The host sees Hafez as the stronger, more powerful fighter who can win wherever the fight goes. Hafez's wrestling and top control should overpower Gall, and his striking is also a threat given Gall's defensive lapses. Gall's submission threat is noted, but Hafez's strength and improved cardio management should lead to a finish inside the distance.

Paul believes Hafez's style is terrible for Gall, who is a submission specialist but not a good wrestler or striker. He thinks Hafez will take Gall down and control him. Paul was hoping for a better line but still likes Hafez.

Mickey Gall vs. Mike Malott

Round 1
Once the new kid on the block, now 30 years old and 10 UFC fights in, Gall (7-4, 6-4 UFC) finds himself in a different role than usual as he takes on a company debutant in Canada’s Malott (7-1-1, 0-0 UFC). It will be the first time since Gall took on Phil “CM Punk” Brooks that he will have an experience advantage, and he will have to take on a man in Malott who holds all of his wins by stoppage. Referee James Larry Folsom is ready for wherever the fight goes, and the welterweights do not touch gloves before getting after it. Instead, Malott comes out with a jumping side kick, pushing Gall back right out of the gate. He slows down, and then wings a high kick that Gall is able to block in time. Chants of “USA” rain down in support of Gall against the Canadian, which empower him to score a right hand across the top. Malott returns fire with a pair of punches that knock Gall back, but Gall regains his composure and pressures forward. The newcomer lands a leg kick as Gall throws hands at him, and Malott replies with a right hand that hurts Gall. Gall tries to clinch up, and he whiffs on a standing hammerfist when Malott backs away. Malott pushes out a jab and a right hand to follow it as Gall ignores them and throws caution to the wind to engage. Both men land cleanly, and a Malott right hand hurts Gall badly. Gall, cut and bleeding out of the corner of his right eye, does not look overly fazed as he shakes off the cobwebs, and he comes out to attack with straight punches with his chin straight in the air. Malott comes at him, and Gall pursues a standing guillotine choke before Malott pushes off and dings him with a left hook. Gall races forward in pursuit of a takedown, and he yanks Malott down to the mat. The Canadian does not stay grounded for long, walking off the wall back to his feet, and he pushes away as Gall is landing shots. Malott throws a left hand into a high kick, and Gall crashes forward to blast him with a barrage of blows.
As Gall blitzes him, “Proper Mike” stays composed and sits down on right hand on the ear and a left that completely shuts Gall’s lights out. Gall crumples to the mat like a bird that just had its wings clipped, and when he hits the ground face-first, he reactivates. Malott is on him in an instant, raining down hammerfists until Folsom intervenes.
Gall does get back up rather quickly after the stoppage, although he is not frustrated by it as he face-planted moments earlier. This is a big introduction to the promotion for Malott, who now celebrates half of his wins by knockout and the other half by sub. Making the most of his post-fight interview, he states that he will donate his show money ($10,000) to help a coach's daughter fight against cancer, and asks people to donate to the cause on his

Big Brady picks Mike Malott to win by first-round TKO. He likes Malott's striking power and black belt BJJ, but notes his chin is a concern as he has been knocked out before. Gall has power and submission ability but poor cardio. Brady thinks Malott's better cardio and tools give him the edge, and expects an early finish.

Cody leans towards Gall as a live underdog. He notes Malott's history of gassing after the first round and his questionable chin. Cody thinks Gall's BJJ is good enough to neutralize Malott's grappling, and that Gall's striking has improved. He believes if Malott doesn't finish early, Gall can take over in later rounds.

Levi respects Mickey Gall for surviving and learning in the UFC against tough competition. He criticizes Mike Malott's cardio and tendency to freeze when pressured, noting Malott has only three minutes of octagon time in seven years. He believes Gall can crowd Malott, throw combinations, and use his grappling to win. He thinks the line should be a pick'em, so at plus money he is betting Gall.

I really like Malott in this spot. He has great striking and jiu-jitsu, and being at 170 should help his durability. He is the better striker and jiu-jitsu player. I think he will land a club and sub or get a finish inside the distance. Gall has been inconsistent and Malott should run through him.

Big Brady picks Alex Morono to win, likely by decision. He notes Morono's well-rounded skills, experience against good competition, and superior striking output (5.14 sig strikes/min). He points out Mickey Gall's wins are over lower-level opponents and that Gall's primary path to victory (submission) is unlikely against Morono, who has never been submitted and is a BJJ black belt. Brady suggests Morono could make it look easy if he wrestles, but even on the feet he favors Morono.

Big Brady Expert
Jun 24, 2020 (3 days before fight) Confident Mike Perry

Big Brady picks Mike Perry despite concerns about Perry's personal life (girlfriend cornering him). He believes Perry's wrestling and strength will neutralize Gall's takedown attempts, and that Perry's superior competition and power will lead to a first-round knockout. He notes that Gall's only path is getting Perry down, which he thinks is unlikely.

Perry by KO in round 1; wouldn't put him in a parlay due to concerns; Gall at +255 is a shot but not for him
"I like Perry to win here... probably gonna get a knockout on Mickey Gall in that first round."

Daniel Levi Expert
Jun 26, 2020 (1 day before fight) Lean Mickey Gall

Daniel Levi picks Mickey Gall for the upset, citing Perry's chaotic personal life, lack of coaching, and stagnation in skill development. He notes Gall's improvement in his last fight against Salim Touahri, showing better fight IQ and cardio. Levi believes Gall's jiu-jitsu black belt and submission threat could catch Perry if he overextends. He acknowledges Perry's strength and clinch game but thinks the line is too wide and Gall has a chance to submit him.

Gall wins by submission
"I think this Saturday has all the ingredients for him to rise to the occasion and choke out Mike Perry somewhere along the way."

Jun 22, 2020 (5 days before fight) Confident Mike Perry

The MMA Guru confidently picks Mike Perry to win by KO, stating that Mickey Gall's only chance is to get the fight to the ground, but Perry's takedown defense is strong. He predicts Perry will break Gall in the clinch and land an elbow or shot for a first-round TKO. He dismisses concerns about Perry's girlfriend being in his corner, believing his gym will prevent that from being a distraction.

Perry by KO/TKO in first round; Perry to land an elbow or shot off the break
"I think Mike Perry wins by KO pretty brutally... I think it's gonna be a first round... Mike Perry is gonna eventually break and land an elbow or a shot off the break that's gonna KO Mickey go"
