Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident picked Oct 9, 2022 (6 days before fight)
Leomana Martinez

Angelo picks Leomana Martinez, citing his cleaner technique, power, and heart shown in the Ronnie Lawrence fight. He notes that Brandon Davis has a wrestling advantage and took Giga Chikadze down three times, but Mana showed incredible resilience and never stops coming forward. He trusts Mana to fight for the win.

"I gotta go with Mana here because of that cleaner technique and I know that if he gets into trouble he's not going to stop"

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Oct 9, 2022 (6 days before fight)
Leomana Martinez

Big Brady picks Leomana Martinez to win by first-round knockout. He highlights Martinez's power (finished all regional wins in the first round, knocked out Ricky Turcios) and notes that Brandon Davis was knocked out in his last fight and has been hurt before. He believes Davis's takedown threat is minimal and that Martinez's power will be too much. He calls Martinez the more dangerous striker.

Leomana Martinez

Cody picks Martinez but is not confident. He notes Martinez has huge power and a nasty left hook, and could knock Davis out. However, he acknowledges Davis is a volume puncher and could push the pace. He thinks Martinez might win by knockout but is not willing to bet heavily.

"I'm gonna take Mana Martinez I got a feeling that he might even be able to knock about but I'm not going to get greedy."

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Lean picked Oct 11, 2022 (4 days before fight)
Leomana Martinez

Martinez is the better striker with power, and his cardio has improved. Davis has suspect takedown defense and could be a live underdog if he gets the fight to the mat. However, Martinez's takedown defense is a concern; if he can keep it standing, he should win by knockout. The host is not betting the moneyline but likes Martinez inside the distance at +240.

Leomana Martinez inside the distance +240

Paul Shaughnessy Expert Lean picked Oct 12, 2022 (3 days before fight)
Brandon Davis

Paul leans towards Davis as a dog, noting Davis has fought high-level competition and has a junkyard dog style. He thinks Davis can push the pace, score takedowns, and potentially win if he survives the first round. However, he is on the fence and might switch back to Martinez.

"I'm leaning towards the dog with you right now... Brandon Davis dog number four I think he can hopefully push a pace on Mana."

The MMA Guru Expert Confident picked Oct 11, 2022 (4 days before fight)
Leomana Martinez

The MMA Guru picks Leomana Martinez, refusing to fall for Brandon Davis as an underdog. He criticizes Davis as hit-or-miss and notes his poor weight cut to 135. He believes Martinez will hold his own in grappling and win on the feet, catching an aggressive Davis and finishing by TKO in the first round.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Hesitant picked Oct 13, 2021 (3 days before fight)
Danaa Batgerel

Angelo picks Batgerel but is hesitant because the fight is closer than the odds suggest. He notes Batgerel is a sniper on the feet with speed and power, and his scrambling ability allows him to get back up if taken down. Brandon Davis has a path to victory via wrestling and jiu-jitsu, but his takedown offense is just okay. Angelo believes Batgerel's speed and power on the feet will be the difference, but he sees value in Davis if his wrestling has improved.

Brandon Davis

Big Brady picks Brandon Davis as an underdog, citing Davis's size advantage, reach, and takedown ability. He notes Batgerel has power but weaker competition, and Davis can mix in takedowns as seen against Giga Chikadze. He expects a close decision win for Davis.

Brandon Davis

Cody picks Davis as a live underdog, citing his durability, cardio, and well-rounded skills. He notes that Batgerel is an explosive banger who has not fought past the first round in two years, while Davis has fought high-level competition and has a never-say-die mindset. He believes Davis can weather the early storm and take over as the fight goes on.

Daniel Levi Expert Lean picked Oct 14, 2021 (2 days before fight)
Danaa Batgerel

Daniel slightly leans with Batgerel because he has been more active in the UFC and handled lower-level opponents decisively. However, he sees Brandon Davis as a live dog due to his size (3 inches taller, 72-inch reach) and durability—Davis has never been knocked out. Daniel expects a competitive stand-up fight and suggests the line may be too wide, making it a dog-or-pass situation.

"i'm gonna slightly lean with the knob back gary just because he's been more active inside the ufc's octagon"

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Confident picked Oct 12, 2021 (4 days before fight)
Brandon Davis

Davis has veteran savvy, a good chin (never KO'd), and a takedown advantage. Batgerel is a muay Thai striker but his overall MMA game is lacking, and Davis can mix in takedowns and submissions. Davis by decision is the main prediction, but a submission prop at plus money is also attractive.

Davis by decision +275, Davis inside distance +365, Davis by submission (hoping for +800 or better)

Paul agrees with Cody, noting that Batgerel has zero takedown accuracy and is primarily a striker, while Davis is a well-rounded generalist who can mix in takedowns. He thinks Davis's durability and experience against tough opponents give him an edge.

Brandon Davis vs. Giga Chikadze

Round 1
At featherweight, Davis (10-7, 2-4 UFC) tries to ruin the debut of highly touted kickboxer Chikadze (7-2, 0-0 UFC). Serving as the referee is Rebin Saber. The two come out tentative, not committing on anything, and it is Davis that tries to get his kicks going early on. Chikadze leaps forward and throws a long one-two that backs Davis away. The kickboxer switches stances to disrupt his opponent and scores a left hand, but Davis ignores it and looks to drag the fight down. Chikadze gets away with grabbing the fence to defend the takedown, but the American eventually gets his man down. Stepping over into three-quarter guard, Davis gets back to half guard as Chikadze scrambles and flails to get out of a bad position. Slowly, Davis pulls himself into mount, but Chikadze sits up and reverses position. On top, Chikadze throws hard, and then chains several strong punches to the body that causes Davis to immediately try to buck position. The Georgian hammers down several more heavy punches until Davis manages to get to his feet. After a brief separation, Davis shoots in for a takedown and gets Chikadze down in the waning seconds of the round. The horn sounds.

Round 2
Round 2 begins with Davis grinning from ear-to-ear, as he trades jabs with kickboxer. Chikadze wings a right hand that clips Davis, but Davis wears it well. Seeing the success, Chikadze fires another that catches the American right on the chin. Davis's beard holds up, although he continues to take jabs until he has had enough, and shoots in for a single leg takedown. Chikadze evades it and the two continues to swing at each other. Chikadze scores with his patented "Giga kick" to the body, catching Davis flush to the liver and stunning him briefly. Davis recovers and throws a right hand back, but he is slower on the draw than the kickboxer, who is ready with a counter. Chikadze starts to throw a looping right hand to respond to a jab, and Davis backs off. The American scores a few leg kicks, and Chikadze chains together several powerful punches that causes Davis to actually goad Chikadze into throwing more. Chikadze cracks "Killer B" with a huge left hand that staggers the American, but other than a little wobble, he is still on his feet. Perhaps on instinct, Davis shoots for a double and gets Chikadze down. Davis throws three knees to the midsection, and as Chikadze stands up he races forward with a flying knee that falls short of the target, and the time expires.

Round 3
Davis kicks off the round with several sharp jabs, and a leg kick that gets countered by Chikadze. Davis wings a right hand that Chikadze ducks out of the way, although he does sting the Georgian with a low leg kick. As the two trade leg kicks, Chikadze waves him on a la Frank Dux vs. Paco in "Bloodsport," but Davis does not oblige him. Instead, Chikadze just continues to pepper the lead leg with more kicks, while Davis wades forward to swing wild punches that largely do not connect. The American stings Chikadze with a jab, but Chikadze fires back with a big head kick that is just blocked in time. Davis shoots in for a takedown, and Chikadze stuffs it and continues things on the feet. The American is relentless, trying for another takedown, but Chikadze is well out of the way. Chikadze motions Davis on, tempting him to stand and trade, so Davis swings with all his might with a right hand that Chikadze easily ducks out of the way, sending Davis falling into the cage like Ronda Rousey against Holly Holm. Chikadze strings a long combination together that forces Davis to smile, and the two taunt one another. This does not last long, since Davis shoots for a single leg takedown that Chikadze easily stuffs. The Georgian swings up with a head kick that glances off Davis' forehead, and with seconds to go Davis goes for one final takedown. He lands it, and the horn sounds.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident picked Mar 22, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Steven Peterson

Angelo picks Peterson, citing his toughness and relentless pressure. He notes that Peterson is never the more skilled fighter but makes up for it with grit. He thinks Peterson will frustrate Alexander, who may not handle the constant forward pressure. However, he says he cannot trust Peterson with his money because he puts himself in danger and could get caught.

"Stephen Peterson's going to be the pick but at no offense to Steve Peterson because this guy's great I can't trust him with my money."

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Mar 22, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Steven Peterson

Big Brady picks Steven Peterson by submission, calling it a sneaky way to attack the fight. He notes Peterson's ability to get takedowns and his submission skills (42% of wins by sub), though he hasn't submitted anyone in the UFC. Brady thinks Peterson has more ways to win, especially if he gets the fight to the mat, and predicts a third-round submission. He acknowledges Alexander's striking advantage on the feet but favors Peterson's toughness and experience.

Peterson by submission in round 3
"I'm gonna say Peterson by submission I think that could be a sneaky way to look at it"

Cody Saftic Expert Lean picked Mar 22, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Lucas Alexander

Cody leans towards Alexander as a dog, citing his kickboxing advantage and physicality. He notes Peterson is a forward-pressure fighter but not high-level, and that Alexander could have more time to work in his comfort zone. He expects a close, possibly split decision, and sees value in the plus money.

Fight goes to decision
"If I needed to squeeze another Underdog I feel like I would take that shot on Lucas Alexander"
CO
Connor Ruebusch Expert Confident picked Mar 23, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Steven Peterson

Connor also picks Steven Peterson, agreeing with Zane that Alexander is too inexperienced to handle Peterson's relentless pressure. He notes that Peterson's technical flaws don't matter if he just keeps coming, and that Alexander has shown he can be cornered and flustered. Connor says he would not be shocked if Alexander wins by landing a big shot, but he sees Peterson as the more reliable pick given Alexander's rawness.

Same odds commentary as Zane.
"I think I'm going to take Peterson too."

Jacob Lines Expert Lean picked Mar 22, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Steven Peterson

Jacob picks Peterson but is not confident, noting that Peterson's toughness is his main attribute. He thinks Peterson should out-tough Alexander but that Alexander is dangerous and could land a big shot. He says there are better places to put money on this card.

"Stephen Peterson should be the play he should be able to out tough this guy do what he does throw volume in his face."

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Confident picked Mar 20, 2023 (5 days before fight)
Lucas Alexander

The host is surprised to see Alexander as an underdog, believing his speed, slick striking, and calf kicking game will be too much for Peterson. He notes Alexander's performance against Jacob Kilburn showed he can pick apart a similar gritty opponent. He expects Alexander to win by decision, as Peterson is tough to put away.

"I expect the speed slick striking in calf kicking game of Lucas Alexander to come through in this matchup and get his hand raised"

The MMA Guru Expert Confident picked Mar 20, 2023 (5 days before fight)
Steven Peterson

The Guru picks Peterson, calling it a lock. He criticizes Alexander's lack of finishing ability and poor performance against Britto. He highlights Peterson's durability (only finished once in 2013) and expects a dominant decision win.

"I'm going with Stephen Peterson here... I actually like Stephen Peterson here to drag this into deep Waters have a scrap with Lucas Alexander and win this fight by like 30 27 30-26 decision"
ZA
Zane Simon Expert Confident picked Mar 23, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Steven Peterson

Zane picks Steven Peterson because he sees Lucas Alexander as a raw, undercooked fighter who lacks fight management and is easily overwhelmed by relentless pressure. Peterson is insanely durable and aggressive, and Zane believes his veteran pace and toughness will be too much for Alexander, who has shown he can be backed up and flustered. Zane notes that if Alexander wins, it would prove something he hasn't seen yet, whereas a Peterson win would just be expected.

Odds: Peterson opened at -170, currently -164; Alexander opened at +145, currently +133. Zane thinks the odds are about right.
"I'm kind of inclined to pick Peterson for like the veteran pace fighter pick."

Julian Erosa

Angelo picks Julian Erosa for his violent striking and volume. He notes Erosa is hittable but has a solid chin, and his range striking should outwork Peterson. Peterson is tough and willing to take risks, but Erosa's pressure and volume are key. Angelo expects a fun brawl with Erosa getting the win.

Cody Saftic Expert Confident picked Feb 2, 2022 (3 days before fight)
Julian Erosa

Cody is high on Erosa, noting his deep gas tank, volume striking, and improved wrestling. He points out that Erosa has been an underdog in his recent wins and has shown he can take a punch and come back. He thinks Peterson's only path is a knockout, but Peterson doesn't have that power. He is confident Erosa wins but understands the price is steep.

Julian Erosa

Daniel Levi picks Julian Erosa but calls it a dog-or-pass situation. He notes Erosa has been dropped in every fight but often comes back to win. Peterson is a tough veteran who can knock people out, but he gets hit a lot. Levi thinks Erosa's volume and reach advantage will lead to target practice, but he's worried about Peterson's power. He says the pick is Erosa but advises against betting the -310 line.

He notes that Hooper has a path to victory by using his length and kicks to keep Peterson at range, and that Hooper has been training with Wonderboy Thompson. Levi is underwhelmed by Peterson's tape and thinks Hooper's toughness and submission ability could be factors. He admits Peterson has more experience but trusts Hooper's improvements.

Steven Peterson

Peterson is a veteran with superior striking and serviceable takedown defense. Hooper is still green and relies on jiu-jitsu, but Peterson has never been submitted in his career. Peterson should keep the fight standing and outpoint Hooper, likely winning a decision. Hooper's durability means a finish is unlikely.
