Round 1
Middleweights are up again, this time in the form of offense-minded maulers Aliskerov and Ferreira. The third man in the cage is Marc Goddard. Both men are in orthodox stance but as Aliskerov advances, Ferreira switches to southpaw, and then back. Ferreira comes up short with a sweeping overhand right. Aliskerov meets his next entry with a level change and runs him to the fence. Ferreira grabs an underhook but Aliskerov hoists and dumps him anyway. Ferreira turns his back in order to stand and manages to disengage without giving up back control. They separate and Aliskerov promptly boots him to the cup in the next exchange. Goddard halts the action and warns Aliskerov while the Brazilian catches his breath. When they go back to work, Aliskerov lands a hard low kick. Aliskerov nails Ferreira with a knee up the middle. Ferreira backs up to the cage and Aliskerov comes in behind a flying knee, then seamlessly drops for a double-leg takedown, hauling Ferreira down and away from the fence. Beautiful mixing of the martial arts there. With 90 seconds left in the round, Aliskerov is in Ferreira’s full guard near the warning track, throwing short punches to the ribs while Ferreira closes his guard and controls his posture. Ferreira opens up his guard and looks for some possible offense from his back, elevating his hips for an armbar or triangle. Aliskerov lets Ferreira up and lands a right hand before the horn.

Round 2
Aliskerov throws a high front kick that misses short. He meets Ferreira’s next entry with a push kick up the middle. Ferreira is struggling badly to navigate the reach of the taller, longer Aliskerov; he’s eating a strike or two on the way in every time, and even when they don’t do a ton of damage, they disrupt whatever Ferreira was planning to do. Like clockwork, as I type that, Ferreira wades into the pocket and runs right into a perfectly timed level change. Aliskerov deposits him on the canvas and, as Ferreira scrambles, ends up kneeling over him in an almost north-south position. Aliskerov looks to isolate an arm for a kimura or armbar. Ferreira escapes but gives up his back. Aliskerov is draped all over him, but Ferreira is patient and methodical, and gets back to his feet without giving up back mount. Aliskerov drills Ferreira with two punches, but there isn’t much behind them. Ferreira steps forward and throws punches, and several land before Aliskerov gets onto his hips and drags him back to the canvas. Ferreira escapes back to his feet around the 30-second mark, and Aliskerov hustles him back to the ground again. Ferreira looks for a calf slicer as Aliskerov stands over him, but can’t get it before the horn.

Round 3
Ferreira surges forward and throws a pair of big punches that bounce off of the high guard of Aliskerov. Ferreira with a high kick that just touches. Aliskerov has slowed drastically, but Ferreira has been too wild to capitalize in the early going. Aliskerov with a long jab and a front snap kick, backing Ferreira up to the fence, and when Ferreira rebounds from the cage, Aliskerov uses a trip to spin him down to the floor with ease. Aliskerov goes into Ferreira’s guard. Ferreira shrimps, then goes onto all fours, but before he can explode to his feet, Aliskerov slides into back mount and locks up a body triangle. Serious tactical blunder by Ferreira, and Aliskerov is fishing for a choke. Ferreira is wise to it and fights off the choke, and tries to twist out of back mount, but ends up in a very uncomfortable-looking sideways mount. Aliskerov, in no hurry to go anywhere, squeezes with his legs and drops punches. Under 90 seconds to go and Aliskerov has completely taken over the fight. Ferreira goes to all fours with 30 seconds to go and Aliskerov is on his back, dropping punches from back mount until the horn. Dominant performance by Ikram Aliskerov.

McVey offers a few pawing front kicks to see if he can reach “The Hulk,” and he has a high kick skim across Ferreira’s shoulder. Ferreira steps in to jack McVey in the jaw with a right hook, but it is one-and-done as he backs off to avoid counters. Ferreira scores a low kick and shells up to block a few punches and a high kick. He blasts the front leg with a kick, and McVey stumbles and smiles to try to keep a poker face. Ferreira turns around carelessly to reset, and McVey tackles him to the mat from behind and briefly takes his back.
The incredibly strong Brazilian stands up with McVey on his back, leans over and slams McVey over his head to the mat. McVey lands with a grunt, and Ferreira leisurely sits down in side control to start doing work with elbow. When McVey looks to scramble, Ferreira slices into full mount like a hot knife through butter.
Ferreira lowers himself down for an arm-triangle choke setup, but it is a ruse as he traps McVey’s arm from the side and rolls him over, the armbar already set. Ferreira turns belly-down to complete the submission
, and the newcomer is shocked at how fast Ferreira nailed that sub and taps out frantically. “The Hulk” releases the grip immediately and runs to his corner to embrace them. His 100% finish rate remains intact.

Round 1
Fists and feet and the other four limbs are about to start flying when referee Mark Smith tells these two gunslinging middleweights to get after it. Fans will be finally able to answer the live-action question of whether “The Hulk” Ferreira (12-2, 3-2 UFC) could beat “Superman” Petrosyan (9-4, 3-3 UFC) in the ultimate Marvel vs. DC nickname battle. Everyone in the building takes a sharp inhale when the two get going, as they touch gloves first. Petrosyan stalks a retreating Ferreira down, with Ferreira on the outer edge of the cage circling. Petrosyan chops at his foe’s front leg, and Ferreira misses the check on it. He has his leg ready for a second. The lunges from Ferreira are forcing Petrosyan to jump back, but he does not strike. They trade low kicks from a safe distance, and Petrosyan doubles up on his kick effort. Ferreira roars forward, getting off a right hand and blasting Petrosyan in the face with a huge left hand. Petrosyan takes it on the button without flinching, and he kicks the inside leg and skips his foot into Ferreira’s cup. Smith calls time, and Ferreira takes less than 30 seconds before he wants to go again. Petrosyan leads off with an inside leg kick, and the impact is much harder and louder as it ricochets off Ferreira’s cup. Smith recognizes the foul again and once more issues a time-out. While Ferreira is recovering, Smith deducts one point from Petrosyan for the foul. After one minute, Ferreira is good to go, and he has to immediately block a head kick. Petrosyan wants nothing to do with low kicks again, aiming his next several kicks high or extremely low. Ferreira charges forward, nearly gets caught in the groin again from a framing Petrosyan knee, and Petrosyan backs off and chops at his front leg. Ferreira sits down on a blistering right hand, and Petrosyan again eats it without batting an eye. “Superman” comes out swinging, catching Ferreira with a response, and Ferreira walks him down and targets his body. Petrosyan mixes up kicks to the body and lower leg, and he gets bounced into the wall by a front kick. Ferreira rushes at his opponent, looking for a takedown using sheer horsepower. The second attempt does get Petrosyan down, but Petrosyan springs back up and flashes his jab in Ferreira’s face. Petrosyan presses forward with a right hand and a jump knee, opening a cut on the corner of Ferreira’s right eyebrow. Petrosyan keeps close, whipping a head kick at him, and the horn sounds.

Round 2
The middleweights clap hands to re-engage, and Ferreira keeps his knee up to block incoming strikes. Petrosyan uses the opportunity to kick him upside the head, and Ferreira shrugs it off and throws bombs. Petrosyan hand-fights and uses head movement and footwork to evade the worst hurled at him, jogging from side to side and kicking high again. Ferreira responds with a body kick, and his leg kick is met with a sharp jab. Petrosyan splits the guard with his own jab, snapping out a body kick when Ferreira walks him down. Ferreira winds up with a bomb of a right hand, catching Petrosyan with one and forcing Petrosyan to run to the side to reset. The Brazilian reaches Petrosyan with a right hand to the body and a left up top, and Petrosyan replies with a body kick and a few jabs that have further damaged Ferreira’s eye. Ferreira times a kick to tackle Petrosyan to the mat, and Petrosyan scoots himself upright and escapes. Ferreira walks him down and jabs him in the face, following it with a mean overhand right. Petrosyan kicks his foe in the lead leg and lead arm, and he sneaks an uppercut beneath the guard. Ferreira targets the body with a few punches, and Petrosyan runs away. When Ferreira punches him in the midsection, Smith calls time as if it was a low blow, but it was nowhere near the groin. Smith quickly restarts the round, and Petrosyan flashes out his right hand a few times. They blast one another with loud body kicks, and Ferreira runs at his opponent like a lineman and tackles him to the mat. Petrosyan gets away with grabbing the fence, and Ferreira is still able to keep him on his knees but is prevented from going flat.
Petrosyan sits up and has his back taken, and Ferreira immediately pursues the rear-naked choke. Petrosyan keeps moving, and he finds the Brazilian has set a trap for him. “The Hulk” locks down an armbar with a triangle choke also in the works, and Petrosyan is in trouble. It does not take more than a second for the Armenian to have to surrender, lest his limb be snapped the wrong direction.
This stoppage keeps Ferreira’s finish rate at 100%, while handing Petrosyan his third straight loss inside the distance. “The Hulk” roars, blood streaming down his eye, and he goes to celebrate with his corner.

Magomedov (26-6-1, 2-2 UFC), who has seen his fair share of ups and downs in the Octagon thus far, comes to blows with Brazilian slugger Ferreira (12-1, 3-1 UFC). The over/under of 1.5 rounds is currently an even betting line, which mean that prognosticators expect some violence here. Before they swing for the fences, they touch ‘em up first. Magomedov tosses out a jumping front kick, and the two keep their safe range from one another for some time. Magomedov remains in the center of the cage, walking Ferreira down and measuring out a jab that is not there. Magomedov swings a left hook that catches the Brazilian on the chin, and “The Hulk” wears it well. Magomedov hammers the front leg with a kick, and Ferreira changes stances and tosses out a front kick. When Ferreira charges, Magomedov uses his reach advantage to pop his foe with a left hand. Magomedov gets off another chopping kick that is partially checked, and he jabs the chest with the ball of his foot. Ferreira tries his own front kick, and is otherwise relatively offensively muted. Magomedov has a head kick blocked, and he parries a punch and narrowly evades two looping hooks. Magomedov skims the side of the head with a kick, and he jabs and prods with a leg kick. Ferreira’s responding teep kick comes up short, unable to find his distance. Magomedov snaps out a front kick and dodges a counter to walk his man down. Magomedov gets away with a naked leg kick as a right hand counter clips him, and he strings a few punches together to get the Brazilian back. Magomedov jabs the body and blocks a Ferreira blitz, and the disappointing round ends.

Round 2
The middleweights bump fists to start the second round. Magomedov gets on his bike, peppering with jabs, and Ferreira rushes after him preparing to check kicks and reaching out punches. Ferreira marches Magomedov down with two hooks, landing at least one. Magomedov walks the Brazilian down and pushes him back with a jab, and Ferreira darts at him with two winging strikes. Ferreira checks a kick and counters a jab with two punches, and two more come to catch Magomedov standing still. Ferreira pitches out a jumping switch kick as he surges forward, far different than the first round as he may have already matched last round’s strike attempt total just 90 seconds in. Ferreira blasts his man in the face with a right hand, and Magomedov ducks down directly into a head kick that shakes him down to his core. Magomedov desperately pursues a takedown, falling directly into a guillotine choke from the Brazilian. The Russian-born competitor shakes out the cobwebs and pulls his neck out of the choke, working his way around to gain top position, sneak around to take the back, and start fishing for things. Ferreira explodes out of it and walks Magomedov down, hurling heavy leather at him. Magomedov’s legs may not be fully beneath him, and Ferreira opens up with a vicious body kick and a jumping front kick. Ferreira splits the guard with a left hand, and he stops a takedown in its tracks. When Magomedov gets up, he just dodges a left hand in time, but Ferreira reaches him with a fierce left hand. “The Hulk” smashes his man in the face with power strikes, and he spins with an elbow that gives up his back. Magomedov uses the moment to tackle Ferreira to the mat from behind, and Ferreira stands back up despite Magomedov on his back. Magomedov rolls him back down to the floor, and he assumes top position to slow the Brazilian down. Magomedov shifts to half guard to maintain control, where he grinds out the remainder of the round.

There is a clap of hands to commence the final round, marking the first time that “The Hulk” has fought beyond the 10-minute mark. Ferreira appears fresh as a daisy, spearing his opponent with a power punch. Ferreira lunges forward to throw out two more, and he dips down to defend a faked takedown and eats a stunning left hand on the jaw. Ferreira raises his arms to ask Magomedov to bring it on, and Magomedov shrugs at him back. Ferreira plods forward, jabbing the body with a kick and pounding a few punches off the guard. Magomedov intercepts his advancing foe with an uppercut, and Ferreira lets his hands fly with two punches and a spinning strike. The spin works to his disadvantage, as “Abus” times an easy takedown that plants the Brazilian flat on his back. Magomedov moves into half guard, and Ferreira scrambles and gives his back up. Magomedov slips a hook in from behind, and he starts looking for a choke before getting the other in. This allows “The Hulk” to escape, and Magomedov looks at the clock and rushes at his opponent to tackle him down to the floor courtesy of a clean double. Ferreira hits his back and hacks with elbows to the back of the head, and he is warned loudly by Goddard.
Magomedov ignores the strikes and steps over to mount and then the side, simultaneously securing an arm-triangle choke. The Russian by way of Germany locks the submission down and imposes his full body weight, and it is just a matter of time with Ferreira trapped in a precarious position. “The Hulk” surrenders before his lights go out,
and Magomedov has now handed Ferreira his first career submission defeat.

Round 1
Win or lose, all 12 of Brazilian bomber Ferreira’s (11-1, 2-1 UFC) pro outings have ended before the 6:08 mark. The same cannot be said for Pennsylvania-based grappler Stoltzfus (15-5, 2-4 UFC), but he knows his way around a stoppage as well. Referee Jason Herzog dons his hard hat for the middleweight proceeding, one that commences with them coming together in the center of the cage but not to touch gloves. They back off, as Ferreira retreats around the edge of the cage while Stoltzfus walks his way forward. Stoltzfus lands a right hand as Ferreira zips away, and Ferreira lands a low kick that gets countered with a straight right. Ferreira unloads with a ferocious right hand that stings the Pennsylvanian, and he blasts him with a second as Stoltzfus counters to surprise him. Stoltzfus crashes the pocket and tosses Ferreira to the mat, and he pushes “The Hulk” over to get into his guard. Ferreira utilizes butterfly hooks to kick Stoltzfus off of him, and he turns over when he does this to stand but Stoltzfus leaps on his back to keep him grounded. Ferreira works his way back upright, and he fights off an armbar. Stoltzfus transitions into a kneebar, and Ferreira gets away with a fence grab to reposition himself. Ferreira rolls through to get out of the leglock, and Stoltzfus runs at him throwing hands before banging into him and pushing him to the wall. Stoltzfus lands a right hand, and Ferreira responds with a stern elbow before darting away to reset. Stoltzfus walks forward and kicks “The Hulk” high, and he dings him with a follow-up right hand. Ferreira misses with a right hand, and he guards another had kick effort. Stoltzfus spins with a back kick that slams square into Ferreira’s midsection, and Ferreira has to shake it out and kick him in the belly. Ferreira spins with a back elbow that hurts Stoltzfus, and the two start slugging with everything they have. Stoltzfus is in a bad way but still swinging for the fences, and he pursues a takedown but is pushed away by “The Hulk.” Stoltzfus drills his man with an elbow, but Ferreira is relentless, throwing everything he has into a right hand that slams into his foe’s temple. Stoltzfus staggers back, and Ferreira reaches him with a long right hand and whips a head kick at him that pounds into the shoulder. Ferreira leaps forward but his knee is not high enough, so he just ends up bumping chest-to-chest into his foe.
The Brazilian lands two shots to the body, takes a few steps back and spins with a mighty elbow. The strike connects cleanly on the forehead, putting Stoltzfus down as Herzog springs between them to stop the fight.
While Stoltzfus is still standing as Herzog halts the contest, he does not protest the stoppage as he is still out on his feet and needs to be caught so he does not fall over. Ferreira, who might be out of steam after his final onslaught, jumps on the ground and slams it with both hands like “The Hulk” does during his Hulk Smash move. This is a spectacular finish, and one of just a small handful of knockouts via spinning elbow in UFC history. The main card has undoubtedly picked up after a slow set of prelims, delivering a “Round of the Year” candidate along with a potential suitor for the “Knockout of the Year” list as well.

Dumas brings up a knee that bangs into the cup, and when Tognoni calls time, both fighters look confusedly at him and say they’re fine and continue fighting. They manage to separate, and McVey marches his foe down with a purpose. As he closes in, he jacks Dumas up with an uppercut, and Dumas crashes to the floor. McVey looks to finish the job with a bombardment of punches, but Dumas is intelligently defending himself. McVey decides to stop striking and hook his arm around the neck, locking up a brabo choke in a hurry.
The submission is tight with its application cinched at McVey’s armpit, and he turns to the side to complete it. Dumas has nothing left to offer at this point of the match, and he surrenders.
We have our first finish of the night, while Dumas clutches the left side of his face that absorbed the crushing uppercut.

It’s fight day, like many Saturdays before this one. With a dozen bouts playing out the next six-ish hours at the UFC Apex, ranked talents may be at a premium but hopefully the action makes this night worthwhile. The broadcast kicks off without touching on the betting scandal that blossomed last week, so it’s anyone’s guess which direction that will take. Bring on the mutual combat. With this pairing coming together this week, a pair of middleweights elected to set this bout at 195 pounds to alleviate some of the pain of weight cutting. McVey (6-1, 0-1 UFC) was planning on Robert Valentin, but in his injured stead will be Texas’ Reese (9-2, 1 NC; 3-2, 1 NC UFC). The athletes bump fists in front of referee Chris Tognoni to open up the festivities.
McVey offers out an oblique kick, and Reese immediately counters with a left hand over the top. Reese sits down on a nasty calf kick and takes McVey off-balance, prompting McVey to surge forward and attack. McVey bashes his man from up close with elbows and short strikes, and Reese shakes them off and delivers a plethora of damaging uppercuts to shake McVey up. The two proceed to rip into one another, hammering one another in a brutal muay thai fashion with blood already flowing a minute in and some harm inflicted on both sides. Reese takes a few elbows up top and pushes McVey from one side of the cage to the other, but it is McVey who is still in the driver’s seat. McVey punishes his opponent with knees to the body, and one particularly effective one puts Reese on his knees. Reese explodes back to his feet and comes back firing, but it is McVey who is hitting harder.
Reese has some success when under fire, and he gets a bit of unwelcome relief when McVey drives a knee directly into his cup. Reese groans, and Tognoni immediately calls time as McVey apologizes. Reese walks off to recover, and Tognoni calls in the doctor to check on the fresh cut above his eyebrow that spans nearly halfway from end to end. Reese is cleared to continue, and he paces back and forth to keep getting his wind back. A mouse starts to develop on the forehead of “Savage,” who does not appear compromised but may have gassed himself out in the first few minutes of fury so he gets some of that back. The Apex is quiet so there is no external pressure for him to hurry back to placate bloodthirsty fans, allowing Reese to comfortably walk back and forth adjusting his cup. Tognoni keeps him informed, and after 2:30 of time off, they resume and immediately start brawling.
McVey’s swings back Reese up quickly, and they proceed to tie one another up and trade to bash one another with clinch strikes. Reese keeps McVey honest with a few elbows, and he drives a shot to the body to open up more attacks upstairs. Reese presses forward and his momentum bowls McVey over as he lands on top. McVey defends off his back with feeble elbows, because Reese easily clears his hips and moves to side control to isolate one arm for a kimura. Reese goes over a little too far, so he sets up an inverted triangle choke and flirts with an armbar as well. McVey rolls him over and stacks Reese up, and they ride the round out. McVey has now officially completed one round of combat for the first time as a pro.

Round 2
The fighters bump fists to reintroduce themselves, and Reese starts off with a sticking leg kick. McVey responds by powering forward to set up his preferred clinch range to let loose with elbows and knees to the body. As Reese sees this coming, he trips “The Moose” up and puts him on his back to take most of his weapons away. Reese postures up to drive down a huge strike, and McVey times him perfectly to spin to the side and get to his knees. Rather than fight back up, however, McVey instead tries to snatch onto a guillotine choke and jump for it. Reese pops out of it almost immediately, and he looks to engage with ground-and-pound. McVey turns to get out, but in the process, he gives up his back.
Reese gladly accepts it, locks up the body triangle and secures a rear-naked choke. McVey’s corner shouts that he cannot give up, but the choke has him dead to rights with no way out. Rather than go out on his shield, “The Moose” calls it quits by tapping out on Reese’s arm a few times.
This marks the first time that Reese had ever performed a stoppage out of the first round.

Angelo picks Robert Valentin because he has seen him be tough and get after it, and he knows he can work in takedowns. However, he is not confident and advises against betting on this fight, calling it a mess. He notes that both fighters are not UFC level and it's a win-or-go-back-to-regional matchup.
Big Brady is not sold on Jackson McVey after his poor debut where he looked atrocious and got armbarred in the first round. He notes that Zachary Reese has powerful striking and a sneaky submission game, though his chin and cardio are questionable. Despite not wanting to lay -300, he believes Reese should finish McVey easily, predicting a first-round submission.

Violence is almost guaranteed in this next preliminary tilt, as these two middleweights each celebrate 100% finish rates. Ferreira (13-2, 4-2 UFC) will now draw McVey (6-0, 0-0 UFC) after a round robin of opponent switches for both men, and they are more than ready to hit something. Referee Kerry Hatley will make sure that they do so on the up-and-up. Before looking to lop one another’s head off, the intense 185ers touch gloves.
Ferreira gets right on his bike and circles around to find his way in, trying to look for angles towards the taller newcomer. Ferreira fires off a body kick after about 30 seconds of inactivity, and he circles all the way around his adversary with nary another strike thrown. McVey offers a few pawing front kicks to see if he can reach “The Hulk,” and he has a high kick skim across Ferreira’s shoulder. Ferreira steps in to jack McVey in the jaw with a right hook, but it is one-and-done as he backs off to avoid counters. Ferreira scores a low kick and shells up to block a few punches and a high kick. He blasts the front leg with a kick, and McVey stumbles and smiles to try to keep a poker face. Ferreira turns around carelessly to reset, and McVey tackles him to the mat from behind and briefly takes his back.
The incredibly strong Brazilian stands up with McVey on his back, leans over and slams McVey over his head to the mat. McVey lands with a grunt, and Ferreira leisurely sits down in side control to start doing work with elbow. When McVey looks to scramble, Ferreira slices into full mount like a hot knife through butter.
Ferreira lowers himself down for an arm-triangle choke setup, but it is a ruse as he traps McVey’s arm from the side and rolls him over, the armbar already set. Ferreira turns belly-down to complete the submission
, and the newcomer is shocked at how fast Ferreira nailed that sub and taps out frantically. “The Hulk” releases the grip immediately and runs to his corner to embrace them. His 100% finish rate remains intact.
