Round 1
“Golden Girl” Pereira (6-1, 0-1 UFC), no relation to champ Alex Pereira—that would be Aline Pereira, who is competing at the Netflix MMA card next month—saw her spotless record go to pot when Montserrat Rendon muscled her around last year. In hopes of picking up her first UFC victory and not a lick of nonsense, she faces a fellow bantamweight who also wants win no. 1 in the organization. Texas native Cowan (7-4, 0-2 UFC) has been far from the bastion of activity since signing with the league in 2022, having fought just twice since then to unsuccessful results. Whether she turns things around or not, referee Keith Peterson will be there for them every step of the way. There is no plan to touch gloves as the ladies get going.
When Cowan moves forward, Pereira intercepts her with a low kick and gives chase with a few punches. Cowan kicks high and gets countered, with Pereira light on her feet to set up a Superwoman punch. Cowan’s face is already busted up 45 seconds in, and she looks to her hands to see there is blood from her face on them. Pereira steps in with a knee and dances away from any counter. Cowan bull-rushes her to set up a clinch, and she thumps the Brazilian with a right hand and a knee but no takedown in sight. The American elects to back off, and Pereira belts her with another leaping punch. A follow-up left hook from Pereira opens a cut on the bridge of the Texan’s nose, and Cowan is not responding well as the vicious Pereira lays into her. Cowan reels from the strikes and tackles Pereira to the mat, but the long-limbed Pereira bounces off her seat and fights back to her feet in seconds. Pereira lifts her lead leg up to smack Cowan in the face, and she circles off before she is reached.
Pereira puts fire behind her swings, drawing some swelling under Cowan’s left eye. Cowan swings recklessly and misses the mark by a wide margin. Cowan tries for a head kick of her own, and Pereira is feet away from it and suddenly crashes back in to engage. Cowan scores her own offense, but it is Pereira who has the power, speed and accuracy advantage. Cowan leads with the crown of her head to initiate a takedown, and she pushes the Brazilian to the fence and knees her in the stomach a few times. Cowan drops down to go for a double, and Pereira easily lifts her back up. Cowan stays tightly pressed to her adversary, ignoring the right hands that smack her on the ear and breaking off to throw her own punches. Pereira kicks back and her foot bangs into the groin, and Cowan adjusts her protective equipment and knees Pereira square in the face. Pereira shrugs it off and jumps back at her opponent with a knee, and they clash high kicks at the bell.

Round 2
Cowan strikes first with an inside low kick, and she slides away from a response to let fly a head kick. Pereira bats it away and flicks out a jab, and that jab is met by not one but two calf kicks. Pereira punches her way in and gets clipped with a right, and she lunges again with power. Cowan potshots her with reaching kicks to the torso, and she puts the ball of her foot on the Brazilian’s stomach. Cowan lets Pereira come in so she can rock the younger woman with a right hand, and she shoots for a takedown and scoops her high off the ground to slam her violently to the mat. Pereira implements butterfly hooks while on her back, and she pushes Cowan off of her with her legs. Cowan leaps back down and starts taking elbows to the sides of the head. Pereira lifts her left leg up set something up, with her right foot on Cowan’s hip, but the Texan lowers herself back flat on top.
Pereira stays busy with her long legs to reassert position or hunt for something, but Cowan is not falling for it. As the action slows to a crawl, Pereira eventually manages to kick Cowan off of her. Cowan stands above her and very nearly illegally kicks her in the face.
Pereira stands and fires off a one-two, and she blasts Cowan in the jaw with a knee that puts “All Hail” all the way out. There is no controversy about this one, as Cowan hits the deck and is totally unconscious before her head rattles off the cage floor.
Pereira looks to finish the job with a couple concussive hammerfists while Peterson races in to stop the fight. What a knee! What a knockout! That’s one way to get on the board for the 20-year-old Pereira. No one had put Cowan away with strikes before that knee sent her off to dreamland. Thankfully, Cowan comes to and is able to sit on her stool, and Pereira goes over to embrace her before getting her hand raised.
The Official Result
Alice Pereira def. Hailey Cowan R2 4:24 via KO (Knee)
Angelo picks Alice Pereira, impressed by her striking and range management. He notes that Hailey Cowan relies on athleticism but lacks technical skills and hasn't improved. He believes Pereira will stay safe, manage range, and finally get her first UFC win. He is surprised the odds are close.
Big Brady picks Hailey Cowan as an underdog. He is unimpressed with Alice Pereira, noting she fought in shopping malls and lost to Montserrat Rendon. He thinks Cowan is physically strong and can win by cage pushing and takedowns, possibly by decision. He believes the wrong fighter is favored.
Cody picks Pereira, citing her length, striking, and youth. He expects her to outwork Cowan on the feet and win a decision, as Cowan is older and less skilled.
Connor leans toward Cowan, noting that Pereira has bad footwork and no grappling, and Cowan's wrestling could be effective. He mentions that if Pereira weren't so liable to be dragged out of the fight she needs, he might pick her, but Cowan's grinding style should work.
James leans toward Alice Pereira, citing her youth, height, and striking power. He believes she can win on the feet, but acknowledges Cowan's wrestling advantage could lead to takedowns and control. He calls it an ugly fight and predicts a decision win for Pereira, but is not confident and passes on betting.
The host picks Pereira but with very low confidence, calling it a horrible fight. He notes Pereira's raw potential and recklessness, while Cowan is 0-2 in the UFC and relies on strength. He expects Pereira to land damage and win by decision, but warns against betting either fighter.
Paul leans towards Cowan or pass, noting Pereira's lack of experience and questionable UFC readiness. He thinks Cowan could win by clinch control and takedowns.
The MMA Guru picks Alice Pereira despite her loss in her debut, noting she is only 20 years old with promise. He dismisses Hailey Cowan as a fighter who should not be in the UFC, implying Pereira's youth and potential outweigh Cowan's experience.
Zane picks Cowan reluctantly, noting that Cowan is big and strong and only wants to hold opponents down. He thinks Cowan's wrestling and size could neutralize Pereira, who has bad footwork and no grappling. However, he acknowledges Pereira could knock Cowan out with one shot, making it a low-confidence pick.

Round 1
After dragging through a number of less-than-spectacular events, many of them holed up at the UFC’s headquarters warehouse of the Apex, the final fight card on this long stretch will receive the royal treatment of sorts. Inside of the Kaseya Center in Miami, some 19,000-ish ravenous fans will be practically frothing at the mouth for consensual physical combat. That action commences in the lone catchweight contest of the evening, as France’s Cornolle (8-2, 2-1 UFC) clocked in a pound and a half over the bantamweight limit. Glad to be back in the cage for the first time in nearly two years, Cowan (7-3, 0-1 UFC) accepted the 20% fine assessed to Cornolle to allow the fight to happen. The ladies will be joined in the Octagon by referee Kerry Hatley, and a glove touch kicks off the evening’s hostilities. Cornolle gets right to business with kicks to both legs and a lunging punch salvo. Cowan looks to respond, and Cornolle catches her coming towards her. Cowan uses the Frenchwoman’s momentum against her, grappling her in the clinch and pressing her against the fence. Cornolle frames off with a knee to the body, turning Cowan around but falling to the mat when Cowan attempts to take her down. The ladies slowly go to the mat, and Cornolle wraps her leg up and around Cowan’s head to set up an armbar. Cowan stays composed and steps over to half guard to simultaneously break up the submission attempt, and she leans down heavily with her shoulder. The crowd is not thrilled by the stalemate on the ground, as Cowan is not advancing any further or landing anything, while Cornolle is stuck on her back. Cowan continues to grind, not inflicting any damage or doing anything beyond control. When the Texan looks to pass, Cornolle explodes and ultimately gives up her back. The horn sounds to end the round, as nothing else comes of the back take.

Round 2
Frustrated from the lack of activity in the previous round, Cornolle comes out of her corner aggressively, swinging hard with her arms and legs. Cornolle wraps a kick up high, and she follows with an elbow. Cowan hunts for a trip, and when she throws the Frenchwoman, she inadvertently falls to her seat and Cornolle leaps over to take her back in a reversal of fortune. Cornolle is loudly warned three times for grabbing Cowan’s glove—it appears Hatley is wearing a microphone—and she resets and grabs hold of a rear-naked choke.
The hooks for “Wonder” are in, and she slides the forearm beneath the chin to cinch it up. Cowan hand-fights to peel one arm off, but Cornolle wraps it up further behind her head to complete it. Knowing there is no way out, a disappointed Cowan surrenders just before she fades to unconsciousness.
Cowan appears to go out as she taps out, and Cornolle shoves her quasi-lifeless body off of her to embrace her corner. There is no ill will between the two, as they go on to hug it out after the dust settles.
The Official Result
Nora Cornolle def. Hailey Cowan R2 1:52 via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke)
Connor also picks Nora Cornolle, agreeing that Hailey Cowan is not dangerous in any version of the fight. He notes that Cornolle, despite her flaws, is a proven difficult fighter, while Cowan's only path to victory is holding opponents down with strength. Connor believes Cornolle's striking, even if limited, will be sufficient.
Daniel Levi notes that Nora Cornolle tapped out Hailey Cowan. He mentions Cowan did well in the first round with a takedown and control, but slowed down in the third, allowing Cornolle to take her back and get the submission.
Zane picks Nora Cornolle, describing her as a somewhat educated striker with a decent clinch game, while Hailey Cowan has no MMA game beyond being strong. He notes that Cowan's mechanics are so bad that her punches lack power, and Cornolle's limited but functional striking should be enough to win. Zane acknowledges Cornolle's grappling weaknesses but believes Cowan cannot exploit them.

Jamey-Lyn Horth def. Hailey Cowan via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) R3 5:00
Cody picks Horth, noting her solid takedown defense and kickboxing skills. He believes she can keep the fight at range and land bigger shots. He mentions that Cowan likes to clinch but Horth should be able to shut that down. He also notes that Horth has been a hidden gem in Canada with good training partners.
Connor picks Horth, noting her striking is like a more confident Lucie Pudilova, crashing into the clinch with wide right hands. He emphasizes her grimy clinch style and hard elbows, and that Cowan is extremely raw and lacks a functional MMA game. Connor believes Horth's physicality and aggression will be too much.
Paul picks Horth, having bet her at -103. He notes that Cowan has had weight issues and unimpressive performances. He believes Horth's undefeated record and Canadian background make her a solid pick. He also mentions a PrizePicks play on Cowan under 60.5 fantasy score.
Zane picks Horth because she is a bully with good clinch work, hard elbows, and a grinding ground game. He notes Cowan is raw, unskilled, and relies on physicality, which Horth can match. Zane sees Horth's violence as the difference.
