Round 1
Styles clash quite aggressively in the UFC 321 preliminary headliner, with one man in Haqparast (18-5, 10-4 UFC) a knockout enthusiast and his Australian rival Salkilld (9-1, 2-0 UFC) capable of finish the fight anywhere it takes them. The former’s power may be a bit overstated as of late, with one strike stoppage across his last seven wins, but the younger Salkilld is as ready as referee Kerry Hatley is to face the fire. There is a sporting touch of gloves to precede the lightweight action.
Salkilld strikes first with a front kick and shoots in for an early takedown. Haqparast shucks it aside and cracks Salkilld with a left hand, marching the Aussie down with his left hand cocked back for further punishment. Haqparast stands his man up with two more concussive lefts, and a naked shot from Salkilld comes up way too short. He tries again, and once more, Haqparast dances out of the way. Salkilld catches a body kick, but he has to set it down rather than doing something else with it. Salkilld unleashes a heavy left hand that bounces off the shoulder, and the Aussie responds with a front kick to the chest and a whipping body kick. Salkilld punches his way into a shot, and Haqparast springs away to avoid it. Salkilld plants a kick on the lead leg and leans back as a left hand soars at his face. Haqparast keeps loading up on power, shaking Salkilld up with his single concussive power blows.
The Aussie chambers and fires a booming head kick, and Haqparast cannot get his guard up in time. The shin collides as cleanly as one possibly can into Haqparast’s dome, and the Moroccan goes down like a sack of bricks. Landing on his face, Haqparast lays lifelessly until his right leg starts twitching uncontrollably, the fighter unconscious and his body working of its own volition. Hatley knows that there is nothing more for Salkilld to do today and makes sure Salkilld is not about to throw anything else.
Salkilld puts his hands up and walks away, and Hatley and the medical professionals race to tend to the destroyed athlete, who is still out. The doctors roll him over and try to wake up the UFC veteran, who stays unconscious for an uncomfortable amount of time. Thankfully, Haqparast is able to come to, and he speaks to coach Firas Zahabi and sits up, even managing to eventually get to his feet without needing to be stretchered out of the cage. With Haqparast seemingly alright—he will of course need to go to the hospital to get checked out—Salkilld is able to celebrate his handiwork, having registered an instant “Knockout of the Year” contender with his shin-to-chin jamboree.
The Official Result
Quillan Salkilld def. Nasrat Haqparast R1 2:30 via KO (Head Kick)
Angelo picks Nasrat Haqparast as a slight underdog, citing his high striking volume (over 6 significant strikes per minute) and excellent 84% takedown defense. He notes that Quillan Salkilld's wrestling approach against Yanal Ashmouz won't work here because Nasrat is a better wrestler. Angelo acknowledges it's a tight fight and won't bet it unless he sees a plus sign on Nasrat's moneyline.
Big Brady slightly favors Nasrat Haqparast, despite acknowledging Quillan Salkilld's relentless pace, cardio, and grappling. He is concerned about Salkilld taking the fight on short notice (made a week ago) and traveling from Australia to Abu Dhabi, which may affect his performance. Brady also notes Haqparast often gets close decisions, especially in Abu Dhabi, and expects a decision win for Haqparast.
Cody picks Nasrat Haqparast, citing his takedown defense (84%) and volume striking. He notes that Salkilld relies heavily on takedowns and may struggle if they are stuffed, as he has dropped rounds to lesser competition. Cody believes Haqparast's experience against top fighters and ability to outwork Salkilld on the feet will lead to a decision win.
Connor sees Haqparast as a reliable, durable fighter who has only lost to elite action fighters like Drew Dober, Dan Hooker, and Bobby Green. He views Salkilld as too green, with a collapsing defensive style and a game that isn't cohesive yet. Connor believes Haqparast's pressure and power will overwhelm Salkilld, and he considers the even odds a huge value on Haqparast.
Daniel Vreeland is impressed by Salkilld's weaponized cardio and high-volume takedown style, which he believes will be too much for Haqparast. He notes that Haqparast hasn't faced multiple takedown attempts in a long time and that Salkilld's length and pressure will be problematic. He acknowledges the short notice and travel but thinks Salkilld's style will carry him to a decision win.
Lucrative James picks Quillan Salkilld, but notes he hasn't done tape study and this is a last-minute addition. He believes Salkilld is the better all-around fighter with elite pace and takedowns, and that Haqparast's takedown defense is unproven against relentless wrestlers. However, he acknowledges the short notice and travel disadvantage for Salkilld, making this a close fight.
The host notes Haqparast is on a five-fight winning streak but believes he is declining and will struggle against Salkilld's Muay Thai and BJJ. He predicts Salkilld wins by decision.
Paul agrees with Cody, adding that Salkilld's takedown-heavy style may not work against Haqparast's takedown defense. He notes that Haqparast has fought tougher competition and has a volume advantage. Paul also mentions that the Abu Dhabi crowd may favor Haqparast, and he expects a decision win.
The MMA Guru picks Nasrat Haqparast by decision, expecting a 29-28 win. He believes Haqparast's pace, takedown defense, and experience will be too much for Quillan Salkilld, who is on short notice. He notes that Salkilld's wins (over Anshul Jubli, Unal Ashmaev) are not impressive, and that he may tire in later rounds. He predicts Salkilld may win the first round, but Haqparast will take over in the second and third.
Zane agrees with Connor that Salkilld is too inexperienced and that Haqparast's pressure and durability will be too much. He notes that Salkilld's defensive striking collapses under pressure and that Haqparast is a significant step up in competition. Zane also highlights that Haqparast has beaten solid fighters outside the elite level and that Salkilld's game isn't ready for this level.

Angelo picks Esteban Ribovics, highlighting his sneaky power, tight striking, and ability to mix in takedowns and BJJ. He notes that Nasrat Haqparast is not very dangerous and tends to win close decisions, but believes Ribovics can win more decisively. He also mentions that Vegas judges don't favor Nasrat, which could help Ribovics.
Big Brady picks Esteban Ribovics, citing his volume, durability, and power. He notes Nasrat Haqparast is not a wrestler and will stand and trade, which favors Ribovics. He predicts Ribovics will break Haqparast and knock him out in the second round.
Connor picks Ribovics as a fun flyer, noting that Ribovics is a pocket combination puncher who will force exchanges and get hit but also land. He mentions that Haqparast has lost to similar pressure fighters like Dober and that Ribovics has the power to hurt him. Connor admits it's a competitive fight but goes with Ribovics for the upset.
The host acknowledges the public is high on Ribovics after his Fight of the Year candidate, but believes they are overlooking Haqparast's experience and strength of schedule. He expects Haqparast's combination striking to overcome the favorite and win a decision.
The Guru picks Esteban Ribovics over Nasrat Haqparast. He views Haqparast as a simple straight-punch fighter without enough power, while Ribovics is more dynamic with better footwork, kicks, and versatility. He notes Ribovics' fight of the year contender and predicts a close 29-28 decision win.
Zane picks Haqparast, banking on his speed and experience in close fights. He notes that Haqparast rarely loses to opponents he is faster than, and Ribovics is hittable and will force exchanges. Zane acknowledges that Haqparast can be out-thought but believes his athleticism will carry him in a brawl.

Cody picks Nasrat Haqparast but is not confident. He notes that both fighters are similar blue-collar types, but Mullarkey's durability is a major concern. Cody points out that Mullarkey has been knocked out by lesser power punchers and Haqparast, while not a huge power puncher, can land enough. He also criticizes Haqparast for being an overpriced favorite who often underperforms. Cody says he doesn't like the fight and is not rushing to bet it.
Lucrative James thinks Nasrat's boxing will be too sharp for Mullarkey, especially given Mullarkey's recent KO loss and apparent chin deterioration. However, he questions his own objectivity, wondering if recency bias is skewing his view. He notes that Nasrat can be taken down and doesn't rate either fighter highly, so he is passing on betting. He picks Nasrat to win by KO but with low confidence.
Paul also picks Haqparast but is hesitant. He mentions Mullarkey's questionable durability and Haqparast's volume advantage. Paul notes that Haqparast is a career underachiever and often wins close decisions. He doesn't trust Mullarkey with his money but isn't excited about Haqparast either.

Angelo picks Nasrat Haqparast as the better striker with good takedown defense. He notes that Landon Quinones is a well-rounded guy but this is too much too soon. Nasrat should be the better striker and has the takedown defense to keep it standing. However, if Landon comes out wrestle-heavy, he could steal the fight.
Big Brady confidently picks Nasrat Haqparast, citing his much better competition and power. He notes Haqparast has knocked down many opponents and thinks this is a big step down in competition. He predicts a second-round knockout.
Cody picks Haqparast, noting that Quiñones is making his UFC debut on short notice and was submitted quickly on The Ultimate Fighter. He believes Haqparast's experience and wrestling will be enough, even though he has looked disinterested at times. Cody acknowledges the -500 price is steep but sees no value on the underdog.
Daniel Levi picks Nasrat Haqparast confidently, citing his experience against tough competition and his youth (born 1995). He believes Haqparast's activity and smarter decision-making will be the difference. Levi notes that Quiñones is still unproven at the UFC level and that Haqparast has been improving.
Haqparast is coming off a decision win over John Makdessi and has been off for a year. Quiñones is a short-notice replacement who was submitted quickly by Jason Knight on the contender series. Haqparast should take advantage of Quiñones' striking defense shortcomings and win by decision. The fight likely goes the full 15 minutes, so the over 2.5 rounds is preferred over the moneyline.
Paul picks Haqparast, agreeing that Quiñones is not ready for this spot. He notes that Haqparast has faced better competition and should be able to outwork Quiñones. Paul is priced out at -500 but sees Haqparast as the clear winner.
The MMA Guru picks Nasrat Haqparast over Landon Quiñones, stating that none of the Ultimate Fighter prospects this year were good. He notes that Haqparast is more seasoned at 28, has fought top competition like John Makdessi, Bobby Green, Dan Hooker, and Drew Dober, and is a good boxer. He believes Quiñones looked lost on the ground against Jason Knight on TUF and will struggle to land a big punch. He predicts Haqparast will outbox him to a decision or get a TKO in the third round.

Angelo picks Nasrat Haqparast because he is younger, faster, and more powerful than John Makdessi, and he believes age and inactivity will keep Makdessi a step behind. He notes Nasrat is a high-volume striker with good takedown defense. He has a moneyline bet on Nasrat and says the line has moved in their favor.
Big Brady picks the underdog John Makdessi, despite concerns about his age (37) and layoff due to leg surgery. He notes that Makdessi has excellent striking defense and volume, and that Haqparast has looked poor lately, losing to Dan Hooker and Bobby Green. He expects a very close fight, possibly a split decision, but sides with the dog.
Cody picks John Makdessi as a confident underdog, arguing that Nasrat Haqparast is overvalued as a -240 favorite. He notes that Haqparast has looked lost since his knockout loss to Drew Dober, with low volume and poor performances against Bobby Green and Dan Hooker. Makdessi, despite being 37 and on a layoff, is healthy and motivated, and his taekwondo footwork and angles should give Haqparast trouble. Cody believes the fight will be close and go to decision, making the plus money attractive. He has already bet Makdessi at +200.
Daniel Levi leans toward Nasrat Haqparast due to his youth and reach advantage, but is not confident. He considers Haqparast a busted prospect and notes that Makdessi is a durable veteran who could win a close decision. He thinks the line is wide and that the fight could be close. He does not bet.
The host leans towards Haqparast, believing he will land the bigger shots and win a decision. However, he is not confident due to Haqparast's inconsistency and Makdessi's veteran savvy. He advises caution and suggests the fight is volatile.
Paul also picks John Makdessi, sharing Cody's view that Haqparast's volume is too low and that Makdessi's experience and striking will keep it competitive. He mentions a personal anecdote about meeting Makdessi years ago, but the reasoning is based on Haqparast's recent struggles and Makdessi's ability to win a close decision. Paul has also bet Makdessi at +200 and calls it his first click of the week.
The MMA Guru hesitantly picks Nasrat Haqparast over John Makdessi, citing Makdessi's age (37) and long layoff (1.5 years). He believes Haqparast is still improving and has a solid chin, while Makdessi may not be the same fighter. He predicts a close 29-28 decision win for Haqparast, with his grit carrying him in the later rounds.

At long last, we have reached the main card of UFC 271. We begin in the lightweight division, as “King” Green (28-12-1, 9-7-1 UFC) looks to put a win streak together as he takes on Germany’s Haqparast (13-4, 5-3 UFC). This evenly matched contest will draw oversight from referee Mike Beltran, and the fighters do not exchange pleasantries nor do they bother touching gloves as the intensity is sky-high. Instead, they race towards one another, and Green has his hands by his waist and is already taunting and jawing at Haqparast. Green walks forward with a jab, and he gets countered with a quick right hand. Green jabs the midsection, and he kicks the lead leg as he shows no respect for his opponent. “King Green” gets poked in the eye when he walks forward, with the finger jamming deep into his socket, and he struggles as he walks away. After 30 seconds, Green says he is ready to go, and Haqparast profusely apologizes. Green rolls with a punch to slip it and counter, and he is ready with his right hand when and if Haqparast comes at him. Green pushes off when he takes a jab to the body, and a finger of his swipes into Haqparast’s eye in payback. Beltran brings them together and sternly admonishes them, ordering them to keep it clean, and there is at least one “yes, sir” response. When they start fighting again, Green scores a low kick, and he gets off a right hand to the body. Green begins to let his hands go, with punches that split the guard and bloody his opponent’s nose up. Green absorbs a leg kick and starts talking and hooting, all while ducking punches and getting backed up to the wall. Green dodges a strike, and he starts pointing at his shoulders while Haqparast bears down on him. Green gets tagged with a one-two as he starts showboating, and Haqparast tags him with a left hand as well while Green is doing little else but talking trash. The fan-favorite Green gets showered with chants of his name as he starts to let jabs go, and he hops away from a low kick and says, “airball!” Green continues piecing his foe up with jabs, and his right hand is finding the target repeatedly as he dodges and weaves the offense coming towards him. Haqparast catches him with a kick to the midsection, and Green marks him up with several more punches before the bell. The lightweights get a little chippy after the horn blows, but Beltran is there to split them apart and send them to their respective corners.

Round 2
They stride out of their corners, and Green’s hands are still low but consistently finding the target as he punches through Haqparast’s guard. Green loops a hook around Haqparast’s high block, and he slides back and forth while hammering away at the German. Green chains several punches together and talks to him the whole time, and he ducks a head kick just in the nick of time and again motions that it missed. Green frequently greets Haqparast with fast punches, intercepting Haqparast on the way in and landing two or three for every one. Green’s volume is high, and he catches a body kick, ducks a few punches and absorbs one flush. The showboating and one-sided conversation does not cease as Green continues to hammer Haqparast from boxing range. Green gets clipped with a wide right hand, but Haqparast cannot capitalize on it as Green ducks out of the way when the rest follow. Haqparast gets off a single heavy leg kick, and Green meets him with jabs and straight punches galore. Haqparast loads up with a left hand, and he scores heavily to make Green turn away for a moment. Haqparast’s face may be bloodied from the continuous striking barrage he absorbs, but his power punches are having an impact and doing some damage when they score. Haqparast wings a few long, looping left hands that bounce off Green’s chin, and Green pieces him up with a six-punch combo. When Haqparast tries to return fire, Green is nowhere to be found, with pinpoint accurate punches from Green turning Haqparast’s face into a bloody mess. Green takes a leg kick and an overhand left flush, and Green’s knees wobble briefly. Swelling behind Green’s ear starts to form, as a result of the left hands that keep landing to that same spot, but he still keeps his pace high and frustrating. Haqparast gets off a few big punches and a head kick, only for Green to snap his head back with a few punches. They trade punches right to the bell, and Green tells him that they need to meet in the center of the cage and throw down in the last round.

Round 3
Green offers a half-hearted glove touch, and Haqparast accepts and wings a left hand that stings Green. Green catches a leg kick and trips Haqparast down, but when Haqparast falls to his knees, he lets go and backs off. Preferring to keep a relatively safer boxing range where he can bust Haqparast up with his accurate punches, he watches as looping shots soar past him. Haqparast scores, and Green’s responsive punches finally get Haqparast’s attention, as Haqparast may be hurt. Haqparast returns fire with a few huge strikes, and Green slips and moves, avoiding the brunt of the damage and keeping his jab up in full display. Green ducks well enough to avoid an entire salvo of strikes aimed at him, and he stands up to taunt his foe and then stick his fist through the guard again a few times. Green walks through a strike to land a few of his own, and he is able to speedily score, duck back, lean forward to smack Haqparast again and dodge the reply. Even when Haqparast does connect with the full force of his swing, Green demoralizes him by playing it off as if it did not landed, or if it did, it did not hurt. Haqparast kicks the body, and Green mimics him with the same strike. Green intercepts Haqparast again and again with his fists, putting on a boxing clinic as his volume and pace cannot be matched. The power of Haqparast tapers off as Green continues to bust him up, and “King” loads up on a few bombs to snake Haqparast up briefly. Green lands three punches down the middle, ducks a hook and circles away in time, before sneaking around to cleanly score again and again. Haqparast throws hammers, but Green lets them slide off him and snipe him right back. With seconds to spare, Green decides to go all-offense, and he slams Haqparast in the face several times right before the final round concludes.

Bobby Green def. Nasrat Haqparast via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Angelo picks Bobby Green in a razor-thin decision, citing his toughness and grappling advantage. He worries that Green may fall in love with his hands after knocking out Al Iaquinta and not wrestle, which he believes is necessary to win. He notes that Haqparast is dangerous on the feet and may have improved his takedown defense after the Hooker loss.
Big Brady likes Green's recent form, noting his high volume and improved striking. He mentions Green outlanded Fiziev 143-104 in a close loss. He believes Green's wrestling will be key, as he can mix in takedowns to seal rounds. He expects a close fight but thinks Green will edge it by decision. He notes Haqparast has power but Green's volume and takedowns should be enough.
Cody picks Green, citing Haqparast's recent poor performances and lack of confidence. He thinks Green's antics and pressure will cause Haqparast to freeze. He notes the line is playable and should be closer to -200.
Daniel Levi picks Bobby Green, citing his experience, volume, and well-rounded game. He notes that Nasrat Haqparast relies heavily on his left hand and has been backing away since the Dober loss. Levi believes Green's volume and ability to mix in takedowns will overwhelm Haqparast. He bet Green at -135.
Green is a slick boxer who should outland Haqparast in exchanges. Haqparast is a striker but has been outclassed by better boxers. Green's chin is solid, and he should win a decision. The over 2.5 rounds at -225 is a better bet than the moneyline, as Green often fights close decisions.
Paul picks Green, noting Haqparast has looked gun-shy and inconsistent. He thinks Green's volume and pressure will be too much, and that Haqparast may freeze up. He warns that judges often score against Green, but believes Green should win a decision.
The MMA Guru picks Bobby Green by decision, believing his striking and range control will be too much for Nasrat Haqparast. He notes Green's close fights with top lightweights and Haqparast's one-dimensional boxing.

Angelo picks Haqparast, believing Hooker has peaked and taken too much damage. He notes Hooker's recent wars and knockout loss to Chandler, and his visa issues affecting preparation. Angelo thinks Haqparast has better chin durability and power, and he already placed a moneyline bet at plus money.
Big Brady picks Dan Hooker to win by knockout, but with low confidence due to major red flags. Hooker had visa issues and will arrive in Vegas on Thursday night, then cut weight Friday morning after a 20-hour flight. Brady notes Hooker has fought much better competition and is the more well-rounded fighter, but the travel and weight cut are huge concerns.
Cody picks Hooker, citing his durability, technical striking, and fast starts. He notes Haqparast's slow starts and that Hooker excels in three-round fights. He also mentions Haqparast's step-up loss to Dober and unimpressive wins. He expects Hooker to win a decision or late TKO.
Daniel Levi picks Nasrat Haqparast, citing the cumulative damage Dan Hooker has absorbed throughout his career. He notes Hooker's high strike absorption in fights against Maximo Blanco, Edson Barboza, Paul Felder, and Dustin Poirier, and his first-round KO loss to Michael Chandler. Levi believes Hooker's iron jaw may be fading and that Haqparast's youth and power left hand can capitalize. He sees value in the underdog line.
Jacob picks Haqparast, citing Hooker's chin issues after recent wars and the long flight from New Zealand. He notes Haqparast's chin has held up since his flash knockout loss. Jacob sees great value at $7,500 and plus money.
The host picks Merab Dvalishvili via decision. He believes Moraes' best path is a first-round KO, but after that, Dvalishvili's pace and pressure will take over. He notes that Dvalishvili has a long winning streak and his style is difficult to keep up with. He suggests a double chance prop (KO or decision) for Dvalishvili for best value.
Paul picks Hooker, citing his durability and technical skill, and notes Haqparast's visa issues. He acknowledges Hooker's recent KO loss to Chandler but believes Hooker's chin is still solid. He thinks Hooker's experience and strength of schedule give him the edge.
The MMA Guru picks Dan Hooker over Nasrat Haqparast, despite Hooker's short-notice travel and weight cut. He believes Hooker's size and reach advantage will be key, and that Haqparast's wins haven't aged well. He predicts a second-round TKO via a knee up the middle, as Haqparast dips his head in combinations. He also notes that both fighters have personal distractions, but Hooker's competition level is higher.

Angelo leans towards Fernandes despite Diakiese's experience and competition edge. He believes Fernandes can defend takedowns and will stay in Diakiese's face with striking, causing trouble. He notes Diakiese has become more of a wrestler lately, but his wrestling is decent at best, while Fernandes has solid takedown defense. Angelo placed a small underdog bet on Fernandes at +145, noting the line is tightening.
Big Brady picks Marc Diakiese to win by decision. He notes that Diakiese has evolved into a wrestler, with 11 takedowns against Slava Borshchev and 8 against Damir Hadzovic. He trusts Diakiese's cardio and fight IQ, and believes Fernandes is dangerous early but fades. He also mentions that Diakiese's submission loss to Joel Alvarez was due to a head clash.
Daniel Levi picks Marc Diakiese, citing his UFC experience, improved cardio, and well-rounded game. He notes that Diakiese has evolved from a dynamic striker to a more complete fighter who uses offensive wrestling. Levi acknowledges Diakiese's inconsistency and tendency to flake, but believes this is a step down in competition. He sees Fernandes as dangerous early with his BJJ and head kicks, but expects Diakiese's cardio and wrestling to take over in later rounds. Levi is leaning Diakiese but not with high confidence.
James acknowledges that Diakiese deserves to be a favorite but sees too much danger on the Fernandes side due to his unproven UFC debut and potential cardio issues. He notes that Diakiese has been submitted multiple times and that Fernandes has speed and power, but he also points out that Fernandes gassed in his last extended fight. Ultimately, James is not betting this fight because he cannot trust either fighter, but he leans Diakiese as the rightful favorite.
Diakiese has a solid submission defense to thwart Fernandes' offensive attacks on the mat. As the fight goes into deeper waters, Diakiese will find it easier to control Fernandes on the mat and do good work from top position. Diakiese is good enough in the striking realm to deal with Fernandes' early threat, and will likely drag the fight to the ground and grind out a decision win.
The MMA Guru picks Marc Diakiese over Kauê Fernandes. He notes that Fernandes is a good regional fighter with finishing potential, but he gassed after the first round when facing adversity. Diakiese is tough to finish early, having only lost to Joel Alvarez due to a head clash. The Guru expects Diakiese to weather an early storm and then take over in the later rounds via grappling, predicting a third-round TKO or submission.

View on SherdogBETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Alvarez (-190), Diakiese (+160)
Round 1
Although this next lightweight pairing might be described as a potential brawl, neither Diakiese (16-6, 7-6 UFC) nor Alvarez (19-3, 4-2 UFC) make their bread off of being knockout artists. Instead, their grappling has been arguably their best attributes, so this could turn into a wild affair that ends up going everywhere. Keeping tabs on this fight will be referee Dan Movahedi, one that opens up with a fist bump from the 155ers. The two are amped up to engage, and the first strike offered is a low kick from Diakiese. When he misses, he resets and reaches his target with a second. Alvarez brings up a high knee when Diakiese comes at him, and he fires off a kick to the knee sleeve of his opponent and catches the Brit with a right hand. Diakiese goes down low with a kick, and he uses his other leg to kick the body. They crash together throwing fierce fists, and both catch the other with one punch and back off to take quick counts of their teeth. Diakiese chains a low kick into a spinning back kick, and Alvarez bounces off the cage wall and gets back to striking range. Alvarez springs into action with a calf kick and a right hand, and they measure one another with jabs to follow. Alvarez steps in with a knee, and Diakiese throws everything he has into a right hand that opens a cut on the cheek of his opponent. Diakiese spins with a back fist, and Alvarez ducks it and catches him with a right hand that staggers the mohawk-sporting fighter momentarily. Diakiese swings for the bleachers with a right hand, and Alvarez dodges it and absorbs a flush leg kick so he can counter with a head kick. Alvarez chambers and looses a hard leg kick, and he beats Diakiese to the punch with a check left hook as Diakiese winds up on a power punch. Alvarez pushes off with a front kick, and he gets wobbled when swinging too hard with a haymaker while Diakiese counters him. Diakiese lets him settle down and gives chase to line up a right hook and a spinning back kick, and Alvarez runs at him with two fists and a leg kick. Alvarez spins with a high kick, ducks a spinning back fist, takes Diakiese’s back and looks for a trip. Diakiese leans himself against the cage to keep himself upright, and Alvarez succeeds in tripping him out. Diakiese reverses him to end up on top, and he scores an elbow and a few body shots before the horn sounds.

Round 2
The lightweights briefly tap their gloves together, but Diakiese is more interested in coming out firing. Alvarez pays close attention, and he watches Diakiese sail past him with a spinning wheel kick. When Diakiese gets his balance again, he changes levels and secures a takedown to put the Spaniard on his back. Alvarez scrambles to put himself close to the wall, and Diakiese is comfortable inside of the guard softening Alvarez up with short strikes. Alvarez looks to turn to the side or potentially set up something off his back, and Diakiese stays heavy and tightly pressed to his man to prevent anything from coming together. Diakiese embraces the grind, focusing more on position rather than offense. Alvarez decides to stop looking for some submission off his back, and he wall-walks to stand back up. Diakiese strips out his legs and puts him down to his back again. Alvarez uses upkicks to stop Diakiese from lowering himself down, and Diakiese shoots down low and gets turned around by the Spanish fighter. With “The Bonecrusher” turning to his knees, Alvarez opens up with punches to the side of the head. Alvarez is warned for strikes to the back of the head, and Diakiese turns to his back and suddenly explodes up to his feet. Alvarez races forward to attack, and his head bounces off Diakiese’s. Diakiese clutches the side of his head, signaling to Movahedi that he absorbed a foul. Movahedi tells them to fight on, and Alvarez unloads with several knees to the body and ferocious fists.
Diakiese desperately drops down to pursue a takedown, and Alvarez welcomes this as he follows Diakiese down and isolates the neck. “El Fenomeno” slides his arm beneath the chin and his other under the armpit to lock down a brabo choke, and he has it tight. Diakiese rolls to his back, and Alvarez moves to lower his full body weight down to complete the submission. With Diakiese still rocked by the head clash, he does not have the sense to fight the choke, and he taps out.
This is an unfortunate situation for Diakiese, as Movahedi missed the clash of heads with Alvarez’ forehead slamming into the side of Diakiese’s head behind the ear. As the official announcement is read, it is unclear if the result will be under review at this time. Diakiese is still wobbled from the foul when Movahedi raises Alvarez’ victorious arm, and he almost falls over and has to be caught by one of his cornermen so he does not crash and burn. The official result is a submission, but it might not remain as such should it get reviewed or appealed.
The Official Result
Joel Alvarez def. Marc Diakiese R2 4:26 via Submission (Brabo Choke)
Angelo likes Joel Alvarez's length and reach advantage, and thinks he can win by sneaky submission off his back or catch Diakiese on the feet. He notes Alvarez has no takedown defense but believes Diakiese's recent loss to an older Michael Johnson is a bad sign. He has a small moneyline bet but does not recommend tailing.
Big Brady picks Joel Alvarez to win by first-round submission. He notes Alvarez is a dangerous grappler with 84% of wins by submission, but also has good striking as shown against Thiago Moises. He thinks Diakiese will shoot for a takedown and get caught. He mentions Alvarez may miss weight but that benefits him. He would not lay -190 but thinks Alvarez wins more often than not.
Cody picked Alvarez earlier at -152, citing Diakiese's poor fight IQ and failure to wrestle against Michael Johnson. He thinks Alvarez's submission grappling and power will be too much. He notes the line has moved to -200 and feels the value is gone.
Daniel picks Joel Alvarez by submission, specifically a guillotine, because he does not trust Marc Diakiese to avoid diving into a submission. He notes Diakiese has been guillotined before and makes bonehead mistakes. He acknowledges Diakiese has the tools to win via takedowns and control, but believes Alvarez's opportunistic finishing ability and physicality will prevail. He points out that Alvarez has 0% takedown defense but is dangerous off his back. He has zero interest in betting Alvarez at -190 to -200 due to the poor value.
The host picks Joel Alvarez, citing his size, reach, aggression, and ability to inflict damage from any position. He believes Diakiese cracks under pressure and that Alvarez will finish him within 7.5 minutes. He notes Alvarez's dangerous bottom game with elbows and submissions.
Paul picks Alvarez, noting his power and submission threat. He thinks Diakiese's wrestling is overrated and that he will leave his neck exposed. He expects Alvarez to win by submission or decision, and suggests live betting if Diakiese controls the first round.
The MMA Guru picks Joel Alvarez, citing Marc Diakiese's poor performance against Michael Johnson. He praises Alvarez's win over Thiago Moises and his massive 77-inch reach in the lightweight division. The Guru notes Diakiese's tendency to get caught in guillotines when shooting takedowns, and predicts Alvarez will catch a guillotine after a takedown attempt. He also mentions Alvarez's layoff but believes he is entering his prime.

Angelo picks Marc Diakiese, citing his forward pressure, volume, and takedown threat. He thinks Diakiese will win by decision, working in some takedowns and grinding. He acknowledges Michael Johnson is a veteran who has fought the best and can be competitive, but believes Diakiese's improved wrestling and kickboxing will be too much. He does not expect a stoppage.
Big Brady picks Diakiese, citing his wrestling and cardio advantage. He notes Johnson has been taken down by lesser wrestlers (Clay Guida, Stevie Ray) and expects Diakiese to secure takedowns and grind out a decision. He acknowledges this is a step up in competition for Diakiese but believes he wins.
Cody picks Diakiese, noting his wrestling and Johnson's tendency to fade. He thinks Diakiese will spam takedowns and win a boring decision. He also likes the over 2.5 takedowns prop.
Connor picks Marc Diakiese, emphasizing that Johnson is extremely breakable when faced with wrestling. He notes that Diakiese has a strong wrestling game and Johnson has a history of losing once taken down, even when winning on the feet. Connor calls it a 'super Jacked Darren Elkins' matchup.
Daniel Levi picks Diakiese but is not interested in laying the price. He acknowledges Johnson's ability to beat top guys on his best day but cannot trust him. He notes Diakiese's wrestling and top control as keys.
The host is confident in Diakiese, noting his recent emphasis on grappling and takedowns. He thinks Diakiese will use his wrestling to control Johnson, who has poor grappling defense. He likes Diakiese by decision and considers him a reliable parlay piece. He mentions that Johnson has only one win in his last six or seven fights.
Paul is confident in Diakiese, citing his wrestling and Johnson's poor takedown defense and cardio. He parlayed Diakiese with RDA. He likes the over 2.5 takedowns prop.
The MMA Guru picks Marc Diakiese, believing his grappling will be too much for Michael Johnson. He notes Diakiese has become a full-time grappler with technical takedowns, while Johnson's takedown defense has declined. He predicts Diakiese will dominate each round via decision, putting the crowd to sleep.
Zane picks Marc Diakiese confidently, noting that Diakiese is a gritty wrestler who has returned to his wrestling roots in recent fights. He points out that Michael Johnson crumbles when faced with wrestling pressure, as seen in fights against Stevie Ray and Darren Elkins, and Diakiese is a super jacked version of that style.

Angelo picks Marc Diakiese, noting he is the far better striker and coming off an impressive grappling win. He highlights Diakiese's power, leg kicks, and durability, while Hadžović is an okay striker with wins over fighters no longer in the UFC. He loves a Diakiese and Nathaniel Wood parlay.
Big Brady picks Marc Diakiese to win by decision. He notes Diakiese has a clear path: take down Hadžović, who has terrible takedown defense (37%) and suspect cardio. Diakiese showed he can wrestle for 15 minutes in his last fight. He expects Diakiese to control the fight with takedowns and win a decision.
Cody picks Marc Diakiese, emphasizing his durability and wrestling. He notes Hadžović's only path is a puncher's chance, but Diakiese has a great chin. Cody thinks Diakiese will take Hadžović down at will and control the fight. He also likes Diakiese over 2 takedowns on PrizePicks.
Daniel Levi picks Marc Diakiese, citing his wrestling and ability to grind out wins. He notes that Diakiese has a good blast double and can find ways to win, as long as he doesn't get too flashy. Levi also mentions that both fighters have calf kicks, but Diakiese's wrestling should be the difference. He hasn't forgiven Hadžović for a previous loss and sees limited improvement.
Diakiese is a safe spot. He can grapple or strike with Hadžović, who is a one-dimensional brawler. Diakiese should take a smart approach, get takedowns, and win. Even on the feet, he can hold his own.
Paul picks Marc Diakiese, citing his wrestling improvements and takedown ability. He notes Hadžović has poor takedown defense and has been taken down many times. Paul thinks Diakiese will stick to a wrestling game plan and easily get takedowns. He also likes Diakiese over 2 takedowns on PrizePicks.
The MMA Guru picks Marc Diakiese to win by KO. He notes Diakiese has shown grappling improvements and is still a good fighter. Hadžović is simple and fundamental on the feet, lacking finishing ability against decent opponents. Diakiese's unorthodox style will give him trouble, and he expects a KO statement.

Angelo picks Viacheslav Borshchev, calling him the more technical striker. He notes that while Marc Diakiese has more power, Borshchev's kickboxing background and technical ability should control the fight. He mentions Borshchev needs to avoid Diakiese's leg kicks and power. He may throw a moneyline bet despite the 2-1 odds.
Big Brady picks Viacheslav Borshchev to win by decision, but is not overly confident. He likes Borshchev's striking and volume, but is concerned about his takedown defense, as he gets taken down in every fight. However, he notes that Borshchev has an elite get-up game and can get back to his feet. He thinks Diakiese can make it competitive with takedowns, but Borshchev will win the striking exchanges.
Cody picks Borshchev, disagreeing with the line. He criticizes Diakiese's inconsistency and poor performances as a favorite. He likes Borshchev's pressure, power, and ability to get up from takedowns. He thinks Borshchev will overwhelm Diakiese and get a finish.
Daniel Levi leans Viacheslav Borshchev, citing his superior boxing and striking. He notes Borshchev has defensive flaws on the ground but is training at Alpha Male to improve. He thinks Diakiese will get early takedowns but Borshchev will get back up and pull away on the feet. He is not betting the fight but picks Borshchev to win.
The host slightly favors Diakiese, citing his overall MMA game, experience against better competition, and the threat of takedowns that could disrupt Borshchev's striking. He notes Borshchev's body shot power but thinks Diakiese's speed and wrestling could be key. He expects a decision win for Diakiese.
Paul leans Diakiese as an underdog, citing recency bias on Borshchev. He notes Diakiese's close fight with a talented kickboxer and thinks the price is too high on Borshchev. He sees Diakiese getting back on track but isn't confident.
The MMA Guru picks Viacheslav Borshchev by late first-round TKO over Marc Diakiese. He believes Borshchev is better in the pocket and notes Diakiese's chin issues after being rocked by Rafael Alves. The Guru expects Diakiese to shoot for takedowns but Borshchev to work back up and land big shots, as he won't be as worried about the grappling threat as he was against Dakota Bush.

Angelo picks Marc Diakiese, citing his leg kicks and body shots to tire out Alves, who has cardio issues. He notes that Alves is dangerous but has no takedowns in the UFC and tends to gas. Angelo believes if Diakiese stays composed and technical, he should win straightforwardly.
Big Brady picks Rafael Alves as an upset, citing Alves' impressive UFC debut against Damir Ismagulov where he showed improved cardio and power. He notes Alves is dangerous everywhere: on the feet with knockout power and on the mat with a black belt in BJJ. Brady expects Alves to hurt Diakiese on the feet, then snatch a submission when Diakiese shoots for a takedown.
Cody believes Diakiese will use his reach and footwork to stay outside and pick apart Alves, who is low-volume and explosive but fades. He notes Alves missed weight badly and is a 'weight bully' who struggles with cardio. He expects Diakiese to win a decision.
Daniel Levi picks Marc Diakiese, citing his speed and athletic advantage. He believes Diakiese can win a decision if he minds his P's and Q's against the experienced Alves. Levi acknowledges Alves's power and guillotine threat but thinks Diakiese's superior athleticism will be the difference.
Jacob is very confident in Marc Diakiese, calling him the real deal and predicting he will dominate. He mentions Diakiese's training with Khamzat Chimaev and his ability to use offensive wrestling if needed. Jacob thinks Alves is being fed to Diakiese as a winnable fight and expects a dominant performance.
Paul thinks Diakiese is the better athlete with better footwork and speed. He notes Alves is low-volume and explosive but fades. He expects Diakiese to stay on the outside and outpoint Alves. He is confident despite Diakiese's poor last performance.
The Guru picks Marc Diakiese by unanimous decision (30-27). He expects Diakiese to establish range with his jab and calf kicks, gradually breaking down Alves over three rounds. Alves may have moments with a takedown or big shots, but Diakiese's calf kicks will limit Alves' movement and lead to a dominant performance.

Two heavy-hitting lightweights with a reputation for nasty knockouts are up, as “Bonecrusher” Diakiese (14-3, 5-3 UFC) tries to crush Fiziev’s (6-1, 1-1 UFC) bones. Despite this reputation, just 43 percent of Diakiese’s wins have come by knockout, compared to Fiziev at 71 percent. No matter how you slice it, referee Rich Mitchell has a full plate in this potential brawl. They touch gloves, and Diakiese begins with a low sweeping calf kick. Diakiese stomps forward to the knee with a reaching kick, and again kicks low but gets partially checked. Fiziev stumbles, and narrowly avoids a spinning wheel kick as he backs away and applauds. Fiziev rips the body with a kick, and he closes the distance to press the Brit against the fence. Fiziev gets him down, and Diakiese kicks him over but the Kyrgyzstani fighter is on him like fly paper. “Ataman” is in half guard but is not attacking, as Diakiese has his arm trapped in a potential kimura sweep off his back. Diakiese rolls to his side while he keeps his grip latched on the wrist. The Brit rolls to his knees and stands back up, and Fiziev greets him with an audible body kick. Fiziev fires off a right hand and a front kick to the torso, so the Brit pushes him away. Fiziev lands a body kick to the other side, and he gets a head kick reply in kind. Fiziev nails him to the body again to make the commentary team shout in unison, echoing around the arena. A few strikes from “Ataman” force the British brawler to hunt for a desperation takedown, and Fiziev stuffs it and pushes him over. Fiziev steps over to half guard, and we can see some blood streaming from the nose of the red mohawked fighter. Fizev rips him to the liver again with a kick, and Diakiese counters with a stiff left hand but the damage is already done. The Brit falls to the wall, and a clinch exchange ends the round.

They greet with another glove touch, and Diakiese begins with a few jabs. Fiziev throws a few kicks at him that do not land flush, allowing Diakiese to keep his strikes going over the top. Diakiese wings a high kick, and Fiziev embodies his inner Neo as he bends over backwards to dodge the kick that zooms by his face. That was impressive. Fiziev lands to the leg, and then a one-two backs off Diakiese. Fiziev picks at him from a distance, with a low kick that forces the Brit to switch stances. Diakiese scores with a left hand, but Fiziev throws back harder to the legs. Diakiese tries to return fire with a similar kick, but his is checked. Fiziev puts on a pair of slapping leg kicks, and Diakiese tries to take them and throw back with straight punches but he is out of range. Fiziev swings a big hook, and when he comes up short, he continues the momentum to drill Diakiese on the jaw with a spinning back fist. Fiziev connects with a stiff right hand, and a kick forces Diakiese to shoot in on him. Fiziev stuffs it and defends himself against the fence before he shoves off. Fiziev throws a hard leg kick and fakes a second to draw a reaction out, but he does not take advantage of this. Diakiese sits on a body kick with a hard left, and times another kick with a right over the top that gets Fiziev’s attention. Diakiese swings wildly and misses, but at the end of an unsuccessful combination he does score a short left. Fiziev connects with a low kick and then a body kick, and Diakiese is dead set on countering those with overhand strikes. His counters do not land to an appreciable effect, and the horn sounds.

Round 3
The fighters start the round with leg kicks. Diakiese bites down on his mouthpiece and fires, and Fiziev stands in front of him and throws right back. Diakiese spins once in either direction with a pair of spinning back fists, and Fiziev sees both coming and dances out of the way. Fiziev backs off to avoid twin punches, and works the body and legs while backing away. Fiziev lands a couple kicks, all while avoiding a counter that comes at him. They both swing hard at the same time, and Fiziev is the one that lands. He chases the strike with two body kicks and a couple punches, and Diakiese backs away. “Bonecrusher” takes several short crushing punches to the ribs when they clinch up, and when they separate, Fiziev throws a right hand so hard he falls over. The Brit cannot take advantage of it, and instead backs away to set up a spinning back kick. Like the previous round, Fiziev pulls a miraculous move to dodge the kick whizzing by his head. Fiziev works the body with a few more kicks, and Diakiese tries to reply with punches that are blocked. Fiziev lets loose a naked body kick, and Diakiese cracks him with a right hand counter that may have done some damage. Fiziev instead eats it like borscht and goads Diakiese on to hit him in the face some more. Diakiese stands still, surprised that his right hand did not finish the job. Diakiese winds up with a spinning wheel kick that partially lands, and not to be outdone, Fiziev responds with a flying knee. The Brit stings him with a jumping switch kick, and Fiziev stands tall and unfazed. Diakiese throws his last remaining energy in a few wild punches, but they miss and Fiziev delivers a spinning back kick to the torso. The round ends in a fury, and what a fight!
