Kenan Song vs. Muslim Salikhov

Round 1
Two welterweights with finish rates of 75% or above collide as the main card continues, with two relative elder statesmen in the weight class plying their trade against one another. Song (22-8, 6-4 UFC) celebrates an equal number of knockouts to submissions, while “King of Kung Fu” Salikhov (20-5, 7-4 UFC) is all about the former. Referee Mark Craig will serve as the cage commander for a tense showdown, one that kicks off as the fighters clap hands. Song comes in, and before he can throw, Salikhov kicks his front leg. Song tries again, this time reaching out with a left hand first. Salikhov chops at the leg again, and he blocks a high kick. They both attempt leg kicks, and Salikhov doubles up on his efforts. Song guards against a few punches and throws a few back to counter, and he is driven away with a spinning back kick that lands square on his ribs. Salikhov kicks and then opens up with two left hooks, and as there are lulls in the action, the crowd begins riling up in support of the Chinese competitor. Salikhov darts in and out to attack, picking his shots until getting met with a spinning back kick coming back his way. Salikhov grits it out and blasts the lead wheel with a kick. Song does not like this, and he blitzes forward, drilling Salikhov in the side of the head and stunning him. As Song closes in, he clinches, and a knee bangs into Salikhov’s cup. Song backs away apologetically to allow Craig to call time, and Salikhov takes 40 seconds to get his wind back. They restart, and Salikhov picks up where he left off with calf kicks. Salikhov scores a right hand, catches a head kick and dumps Song to the mat. Salikhov backs off, with no interest in exploring the ground game, and instead he keeps adding money in the bank with these vicious calf kicks. Song shakes his leg out and hops away from a spinning back fist, and he races forward with a left hand.
The Russian, known for his spinning arsenal, dips into the well with a wheel kick that smashes cleanly into the melon of Song. “The Assassin” crumples to the ground in a heap, rolling to his side as he is bordering on the edge of consciousness. Salikhov drums him out with two hammerfists that are academic at best, and Craig gets between them to tend to the defeated fighter.
Song comes to before long and he graciously accepts the loss. Meanwhile, Salikhov becomes the first fighter in company history to deliver multiple knockouts via wheel kick. The “King of Kung Fu” is for real, even at the ripe age of 40.

Nov 17, 2024 (6 days before fight) Confident Muslim Salikhov

Angelo picks Muslim Salikhov, criticizing Song Kenan's low fight IQ and lack of killer instinct. He notes Salikhov's wrestling and striking power, and expects him to capitalize on Song's mistakes. He calls Song 'one punch or bust' and an idiot inside the cage.

"salov has to be the pick when you're fighting an idiot it is what it is"

Nov 20, 2024 (3 days before fight) Lean Muslim Salikhov

Big Brady picks Muslim Salikhov to win by knockout. He admits he usually picks against Salikhov due to his age (40, possibly older), low volume, and questionable cardio, but he sees Song Kenan as a walking punching bag with low volume and poor durability. Brady thinks Salikhov can knock out Song, who has been knocked out four times. However, he is hesitant and wants to stay away from this fight.

Salikhov wins by KO
"I'll take salikov to to get the win here but we are in China which uh wouldn't very favor s Canan um sakov is 40 at this point or he's actually probably like 80 but I don't know just just give just give me salikov salikov to win this fight …"

Nov 20, 2024 (3 days before fight) Hesitant Muslim Salikhov

Cody picks Salikhov but with low confidence, citing Song Kenan's poor defensive striking and tendency to absorb high volume. He thinks Salikhov's flashy, low-volume style can land the more significant shots and potentially clip Song. He expects a close decision or a late knockout for Salikhov, but warns that Song could outwork him if he walks into the fire.

"I'm going to take Muslim solakov but quite honestly that could be I would call it the PRP pick but some of these road to the UFC guys will probably be down there because I just don't care"

Connor Ruebusch Expert
Nov 21, 2024 (2 days before fight) Confident Muslim Salikhov

Connor agrees with Zane, noting that Song Kenan's pace is exactly what Salikhov thrives on—slow and methodical, allowing Salikhov to use feints and set up his strikes. He also points out that Salikhov's traditional martial arts background gives him a soft landing for aging, and he remains uninjury-prone. Connor acknowledges Song's power but thinks Salikhov's technical edge wins.

Same odds commentary as Zane.
"Song Kenan's pace is the kind of pace that Salikhov will absolutely eat up. He will get the faint love hurts. It's so relaxing."

Daniel Vreeland picks Muslim Salikhov but expresses concern about his age (40). He acknowledges Salikhov's superior skills, spinning attacks, and counter striking, but worries about durability and slowing down. He notes Song Kenan has heavy hands but lacks volume and takedown defense. Vreeland thinks Salikhov has more ways to win and should stay at range to avoid exchanges.

Nov 21, 2024 (2 days before fight) Confident Muslim Salikhov

Zane picks Salikhov, arguing that Song Kenan's one-punch-at-a-time striking style will be neutralized by Salikhov's educated jab and range control. He notes that Song loses to good strikers who can out-volume him, and Salikhov's feints and kicking game will keep Song guessing. Zane also mentions Salikhov's durability and consistent activity despite being 40.

Salikhov opened -153, now -178; Song opened +137, now +157. Zane says 'it does feel like Salikhov should be the favorite in general.'
"I gotta pick him here. Salikhov is 40 but he's a very wonder boy kind of 40."

Cody picks Kevin Jousset, though he acknowledges Song Kenan is a popular dog. He notes that Jousset's striking is basic but he has grappling upside. Cody points out that Song Kenan has never faced a wrestler who actively shoots takedowns, and Jousset could exploit that. He thinks if Jousset mixes in takedowns, he can win. Cody prefers the fighter with some grappling over the one with mediocre striking and no grappling defense.

Ian Garry vs. Kenan Song
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Garry (-620), Song (+400)

Round 1
For the third time in three bouts, a fighter with a spotless record will put it on the line against a dangerous opponent. This unblemished fighter comes in the form of Ireland’s Garry (10-0, 3-0 UFC), who squares off against Song (19-6, 4-2 UFC) and his impressive 89% stoppage rate as a pro. The welterweights will conclude the early preliminary portion of the card, and referee Marc Goddard draws the charge for it. A quick tap of hands between the two opens things up, and Song claims the center of the Octagon. Garry paws out with a front kick and a jab, and he hops back from a responsive low kick. Garry walks Song down and the two trade leg kicks, and one from Garry appears to get Song’s attention early. Garry follows the precise kick with a straight right down the pipe, and he goes back to chipping away at Song’s tree trunk thighs. Garry slips a jab and chops down the calf, and Song attempts to respond with a kick to the same target. Garry’s calf kick forces Song to take a funny step, and Song’s calf is swelling and changing color fast. Song blocks a whipping head kick, and he keeps a high guard when Garry swats with a one-two. Song scores an oblique kick on the knee, and he defends from the strikes from the Irishman over the top. Garry chews up the calf again, and Song stumbles and recovers. Garry’s jab is working wonders, snapping it out to the body or the chin as Song is stuck guessing. Song looks to counter a leaping strike from Garry with a left, and Garry shakes it off and pushes forward to stick a left to the body. Two front kicks to the knee and body are follows by a winging kick up top, and Garry shuts down oncoming fire and checks a calf kick. Song digs a left to the body, and “The Assassin” responds with a vicious left hand that knocks Garry clean off his feet. Song gives chase, throwing punches and shoving Garry to the wall. Garry tries to get his bearings as Song grinds him on, stomping on the feet and kneeing the thigh. Garry spins around in the clinch and breaks away, but his legs are still not fully back. The horn sounds, and they clap hands.

Round 2
A clap of hands starts off the second stanza, and Garry appears to have recovered and returns to his cruising altitude of push kicks and jabs. Song defends from the strikes that launch at him, and he scores a low kick when Garry advances. Song takes a groin kick and he motions to it, and Garry continues striking before Goddard breaks them up. It is not a major foul and rather more of an incidental contact of the foot when Song came in, so Song only needs a few seconds to clear it out. They resume, and Garry connects with a few front kicks up the middle and plans his shin on Song’s calf. Song keeps his footing and absorbs a flush jab without being able to reply, until lurching forward with a sweeping left hook. Garry dodges it but cannot avoid the low kicks on either side of his lead wheel, and Garry takes them and starts to push the pace. Garry stands right in front of the Chinese fighter and works the body, leaning back when the counters come and loading up on additional strikes. On the way out, Garry pounds the calf with a kick, swelling Song’s leg up even more. Song gets off a left hand, and Garry backs him off with a front kick to the body and a series of quick punches. The Irishman works the body and punishes Song’s left knee with a kick. The jabs from Garry continue to have an appreciable effect, with Song’s left eye swelling in a hurry as chants for “Garry” rain down in the crowd. Garry answers their calls with a jump knee, a front kick, and a right hand. Song backs him off with a spinning back kick, and a short combination from Garry concludes the round.

Sherdog Scores
Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Garry
Ben Duffy scores the round: 10-9 Garry
Shane Clifford scores the round: 10-9 Garry

Round 3
When the third round kicks off, Song’s left eye is nearly shut, but the doctor is not called in to observe it. Instead, they raise their hands in the air to clap, getting the crowd motivated. The strikes strike, landing with a few quick combinations to match the other. Song throws one or two to Garry’s four or five, but Song keeps throwing back despite getting beaten to the punch now. Garry’s jab busts open Song’s nose, and Song sprints forward and cracks Garry with a left hand. The Irishman shakes it off and keeps moving ahead, kicking the lead leg and snapping the head back with a jab. Song again reaches his man with a left hook, but Garry rolls with most of it to take some of the sting off. Garry whips a high kick that buzzes past Song’s hair, and he sets up a body kick and doubles his foe over momentarily. Garry batters the lead leg with kicks, jabs the body and keeps Song guessing as he changes his target constantly. Song shells up to defend anticipated strikes, and Garry pulls back and pops him with a jab and nearly gets a flying knee through. Song loads up on single punches, while Garry keeps active with jabs and short combinations. “The Future” goes to the body and the head to give Song fits, in his element and letting go with whatever comes to mind. Garry fires off a high kick, aims two down low, and intercepts Song with a solid right hook. Song takes a jab and a right hook and attempts to respond, but Garry dances out of the way. Song lands a left hook when Garry lays into him, but it is one-and-done as Garry keeps moving. Garry lets out hoots as he lands strikes, and he chains a few punches together that knock Song back to the wire.
Garry unleashes a fury, suddenly fired up and ready to destroy, with punches to the body and head that do serious damage. The right hands from Garry separate Song from his balance and send him tumbling to the mat, and “The Future” looks to become the present as Song drops to his knees. Finishing the job with a final swarm of punches,
Garry moves his record to 11-0 as a pro with an excellent performance. Even after over 14 minutes of combat, Garry is ready to keep going, and he tells commentator Joe Rogan and the UFC brass that he wants to be on the UFC event in Miami in a few weeks.

Griffin has more paths to victory: volume striking, takedowns, and cardio. Song needs a KO to win, as he doesn't mix in grappling. Griffin's movement and ability to stay on the outside should allow him to outpoint Song. Griffin's durability is solid; he's only been dropped once in the UFC. Decision prop at +120 is appealing.

Dober has power and speed advantages, and Glenn has durability concerns after a long layoff and surgeries. However, Dober is unreliable as a heavy favorite and Glenn can also knock him out. Grant Dawson vs. Ricky Glenn

Round 1
At long last, we have reached the co-main event, which comes in the form of a lightweight collision between acclaimed teams Glory MMA & Fitness and Team Alpha Male. Dawson (17-1, 5-0 UFC) represents the former, while Glenn (22-6-1, 4-3 UFC) fights out of the latter. Marvelously mustached referee Mike Beltran draws the charge for this co-headliner featuring the biggest betting favorite of the night (Dawson at -450), and there is no interest in a glove touch to kick it off. Instead, Glenn takes the outer edge of the cage to land a pair of slapping leg kicks. Dawson goes up high with a head kick that just gets blocked in the nick of time, and he aims a low kick and evades the counter. Glenn slows things down with a calf kick, and one to the body collides loudly. Dawson does not love this strike, and he crashes forward to hit a takedown. Although “The Gladiator” fights his way back up, Dawson successfully lands a mat return to get into side control. Glenn is able to defend himself from any harm, as Dawson is content to keep this position while holding Glenn down. From this position, “KGD” lands a few knees to the side, and Glenn rolls to his stomach and gives up his back. As Glenn scrambles and gets back to his feet, Dawson throws him right back down to the canvas while securing his back. Dawson hooks up a tight body triangle, and he starts softening the TAM fighter up with punches. Glenn turns to the side to break up the leg grip, and Dawson starts slamming his fists on the side of Glenn’s head. A few punches may go errant as he is letting them go, and Glenn does not complain but is getting controlled completely. Dawson considers rolling Glenn over so he can capture mount, but instead goes back to the crushing body triangle from behind. Glenn continues to roll, and try as he might, “KGD” is going nowhere, with the leg grip secured. This painful position remains tight until the round ends.

Round 2
Glenn leads the dance with a body kick, and he backs off quickly when concerned that Dawson might want to take him down again. Dawson returns fire with a head kick, and then dives forward into a takedown try. A torrid scramble ensues, allowing Glenn to somersault through the position and somehow getting back to his feet. Instead of getting off an illegal knee while Dawson is grounded, Glenn backs off and lets him stand. “KGD” appreciates this, and he thanks him for it by lifting Glenn in the air and throwing him to his knees. Although Glenn gets back up, and he fights off subsequent try, Dawson hits a sweep and puts Glenn on his back. Like the first takedown in the opening round, Dawson instantly secures side control. Glenn is able to scramble enough to retrieve full guard, and he tries to scoot his way towards the wall to walk it up all while Dawson pulls him the other direction. Glenn pulls on the fence to get his way there, and Beltran warns him for this infraction. Glenn signals to Beltran to stand them up as Dawson is doing little but landing sporadic ground-and-pound with no interest in passing. Glenn’s frustration leads to Dawson jumping back and over to the side again, and Glenn is none too thrilled by this development. When Glenn thinks to sit out of it, Dawson pulls him back down by his neck. Beltran asks the two to work as a stalemate ensues in this position, and Dawson elects to hold his shoulder down to crush Glenn’s jaw but do little else. Dawson has a few more knees to the side land, and he grinds his forearm on the chin until picking his arm up to punch “The Gladiator” in the face. The round concludes in this position.

Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Dawson
Ben Duffy scores the round: 10-9 Dawson
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Dawson

Round 3
Glenn wants to get his hands going to start off the round, and he slaps away a body kick. Less than 15 seconds in, Dawson shoots for a takedown. Glenn pushes him off, and then stuffs a second try that immediately follows. As Dawson doggedly pursues yet another takedown entry, this time, Glenn bowls him over as Dawson falls to his back. Glenn sits up and starts landing heavy hammerfists on the nose, and Dawson sits up and tries to land a takedown. Once again, Glenn is the stronger man, and he pushes Dawson over to start landing punches to the side and face. Glenn in half guard just clings to the position, and he uses his shoulder to keep “KGD” down. Not doing much more than Dawson in the last round, Glenn rides out the position before flirting with a brief arm-triangle choke. There is nothing to the choke, and he fights off Dawson pushing off so that he can flatten Dawson out and stop the scrambles. Glenn starts letting elbows go, thumping Dawson’s dome off the cage floor. When Dawson tries to upkick and push his way up, Glenn nudges him back over. Glenn opens up with right hands, and he turns to a brabo choke with seconds left in the fight. Dawson keeps his thumb up in the air for the remainder of the round, signaling that he is not out. When the bell sounds, Glenn points to his fallen foe and claims Dawson is indeed out, and Dawson’s coach James Krause urges Dawson to get back to his feet. There is no 5:00 finish, and we go to the judges. This could be a close one, depending on how this last dramatic round is scored.

Angelo Bodetti Expert
Aug 11, 2024 (7 days before fight) Lean Song Kenan

Angelo believes Song Kenan should steamroll Ricky Glenn due to his power and knockout ability, but he cannot bet on him at -200 because of Song's low fight IQ and history of poor decisions, like wrestling instead of finishing Ian Garry. He thinks the line is too high for a fighter he doesn't trust, so he leaves it alone despite expecting a win.

No bet due to poor value; would consider at -140
"He should steamroll Ricky Glenn... but Kanan song be a two to one favorite when we've seen him make poor decisions to give away fights in the past I can't do it."

Big Brady Expert
Aug 14, 2024 (4 days before fight) Confident Song Kenan

Big Brady picks Song Kenan to win by second-round knockout. He is very low on Ricky Glenn, stating Glenn looks washed and has been knocked out in the first round in his last two fights. He notes Glenn is moving up to welterweight late in his career and has poor durability. He believes Song Kenan has power and solid takedown defense, and that the fight will stay standing where Glenn's chin is compromised. He expects Kenan to land a big shot and finish the fight.

knockout in round 2
"I'm going sonkan on here and I think sanan probably lands a big shot at some point and and finishes this fight so give me sanan to win this fight by second round knockout"

Daniel Vreeland Expert
Aug 15, 2024 (3 days before fight) Lean Song Kenan

Daniel Vreeland picks Song Kenan to win, citing Glenn's recent knockout losses and potential decline. He notes that Kenan has power and is durable, while Glenn may be washed and moving up in weight. Vreeland acknowledges that Glenn is the more skilled fighter but believes recency bias is justified here.

"I'm going to pick song to win"

Aug 14, 2024 (4 days before fight) Hesitant Song Kenan

The host picks Song Kenan but with low confidence, noting Song's power and striking rhythm. He acknowledges Glenn is a better overall mixed martial artist but questions his durability after recent knockout losses. He expects Song to win by knockout, but warns that Song is better as an underdog than a favorite.

Song by knockout
"I will still pick him to win this matchup and Win It by knockout"

The MMA Guru Expert
Aug 12, 2024 (6 days before fight) Confident Song Kenan

The MMA Guru picks Song Kenan over Ricky Glenn. He notes that Song Kenan has proven him wrong before, showing pop in his hands against Rolando Bedoya and a tough fight with Kevin Jousset. He criticizes Ricky Glenn as an old, slow fighter who moves like a robot and is falling off, citing losses to Christos Giagos and Drew Dober. He believes Song Kenan is still capable, even if not a top fighter, while Glenn is declining.

"I'm going to go with son Canan there's not really much I have to break down in this fight... Ricky Glenn moves like an old man who's not got it anymore"
