Two of the quieter middleweights in the division with solid records and an eye on the rankings will come to blows now. Jotko (24-5, 11-5 UFC), who has earned 10 of his 11 UFC victories on the scorecards, will tangle with Allen (19-5, 7-2 UFC) and his 79% finish rate. The match will be officiated by referee Kerry Hatley, and the bad blood brewing this past week results in no touch of gloves. Jotko claims the center of the cage and takes a stomp kick to the knee when coming forward. Allen swats at him with several left hands, but a body kick is the strike that gets through and lands with a thud that echoes through the empty building. When Allen kicks again, he falls over, and Jotko climbs on top of him. Allen throws his legs up and sets up a straight armlock, but the Polish fighter is savvy enough to twist the right way through it to free his limb and keep top position. Jotko presses heavily with his full body weight while in half guard, smothering Allen and occasionally landing a punch or two. After a stalemate with Jotko holding him down, Allen explodes out of the position and flips Jotko over to his back. Jotko clings with a closed guard to trap Allen from delivering any ground-and-pound, and he holds Allen behind the neck as well. Allen cranks his foe’s neck from behind to open up the guard, and when he begins to open up with strikes, Jotko scrambles and works his way up. When clinched up, Allen muscles Jotko to the mat, and through sheer force of will, he manages to power Jotko to his back. Allen initially claims mount, but he settles for half guard as he fishes for a submission setup. Allen uses his shoulder and right arm to keep Jotko pinned to the mat, and Jotko bucks to turn to his knees.
Allen seizes on this moment expertly, following Jotko every step of the way and claiming his back. From there, Allen instantly finds the neck with a rear-naked choke grip, and it is academic at this point. Jotko rolls to his back, but the choke is going nowhere, so he has to surrender.
Allen is now the first fighter in over eight years to land a submission on Jotko, while notching his fourth sub since joining the UFC in 2019. After getting the finish, Allen goes over to squash the beef with his former opponent, and cooler heads appear to prevail.
The Official Result
Brendan Allen def. Krzysztof Jotko R1 4:17 via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke)
Cody picks Brendan Allen by decision, citing Allen's youth and improvement. He notes that Jotko's style of controlling against the cage may not be enough to win rounds if he doesn't do damage. He expects a greasy, close fight and takes the slight underdog.
Paul leans towards Brendan Allen as a slight underdog, believing the fight is 50/50. He notes that Jotko's control-heavy style may not impress judges, and Allen has shown improvements and a willingness to push the pace. He expects a close fight and gives a slight edge to Allen on the feet.
The MMA Guru picks Krzysztof Jotko, calling him a well-rounded fighter who is better than people admit. He believes Jotko's defensive wrestling and kickboxing will frustrate Brendan Allen, who he views as 'wolf tickets' and unlikely to be ranked. He expects Jotko to win a decision by blending his skills and avoiding Allen's grappling. He considers Jotko a significant favorite and includes him in his parlay.

A clash between two drastically different styles comes to a head to open up the main card, when unabashed point fighter Jotko (23-5, 10-5 UFC) – with a finish rate of 30% and one win inside the distance dating back to 2012 -- stands across the cage from Meerschaert (34-14, 9-6 UFC) and his own stoppage rate of 94%. Whether this middleweight matchup goes the distance or not, referee Herb Dean is ready for what comes next. There is no disrespect between the two, and they gladly touch gloves ahead of their scrap. Meerschaert leads off with a left hand over the top, and he walks into a leg kick. He lunges forward and gets countered, and he wears the strike well and fires off a left hand down the pipe. Jotko lands a left and gets popped, and Jotko is faster but still absorbing strikes. Jotko lands cleanly with a two-punch combination, and he intercepts a low kick and absorbs a left that reddens his nose. Jotko sits back with an uppercut, and he tries to time a left hook as Meerschaert rushes in recklessly. The Polish fighter smacks Meerschaert in the face with the ball of his foot, but he does not rush in to hurry and instead stays composed. As Meerschaert advances, Jotko circles around to grab hold of him and push him to the wall. “GM3” shoves his way out as Jotko backs off to reset, and he blocks a front kick but gets stood up with two punches. Meerschaert comes in swinging, and he leans back just as a right hand soars past his face. Jotko cracks his man with a few straight punches, and his short right hook is finding the mark again and again. They trade leg kicks, and Meerschaert just dodges a left hook. Meerschaert leans forward to attack, and Jotko is able to quickly step out of the way and avoid anything damaging coming his way. Jotko takes a right hand to throw one back of his own, and he snaps out a jab to back Meerschaert up. Jotko continues to do work when Meerschaert comes out swinging, and the American changes things up with a punch to the body. Jotko goes after a standing up-elbow, and Meerschaert pushes through it to tie Jotko up and pursue a takedown in the open cage. Jotko turns him around and presses him into the wire, and he is warned when a knee strike lands on the cup. Jotko grabs his hand on top of the fence to keep Meerschaert trapped, and he is warned of this three times. The clinch is where this round ends.

Round 2
The middleweights touch gloves to seal the cage around them, and a brief brawl ensues with both men getting off glancing strikes. Meerschaert bites down on his mouthpiece to throw heavy punches, and Jotko slips them and replies effectively. Jotko connects with a low kick and a few punches, and then pops Meerschaert with a front kick. Meerschaert ignores them so that he can rush ahead, and Jotko takes a right hand and gets shoved into the fence. Meerschaert then goes after a takedown, and Jotko is able to defend it and knee his man on the chin. “GM3” swats away punches that come at him after they separate, and he is forced to deal with a front kick and a swarm of punches. Meerschaert kicks low and goes over the top with a left hand, and Jotko pays it no mind and slams his shin on the calf of his opponent. Meerschaert absorbs several straight punches on his way forward, and he gets kneed as well when he pursues the clinch again. Meerschaert turns Jotko around and drags him to the mat, but Jotko is able to work his way back up and not allow “GM3” to successfully ground him. Jotko turns him around to the fence, and Meerschaert drops to a knee so that he will not absorb knees to the head. Meerschaert turns the corner and tries to ground Jotko again, but Jotko is strong and able to push him back. Jotko spams short knees to the thigh in this position, and Jotko grinds him against the wall and even manages to take Meerschaert down. Meerschaert accepts this by snatching up a guillotine choke, and Jotko struggles and wriggles his neck free from the sudden, unexpected danger. Meerschaert is quick to toss his legs up for a possible triangle setup, and Jotko shoves them aside to work the body with punches. Jotko holds on from this safe top position, dropping down a few elbows and punches until the horn sounds.

Round 3
The respect flows as the gloves get touched to commence the final round, and Jotko lands a jab as Meerschaert reaches low with a kick. Jotko punches through a low kick, and Meerschaert’s strikes are labored as he meanders forward, but he is still pressuring Jotko. Jotko scores a front kick to the body, and he picks and pokes while Meerschaert comes towards him. Meerschaert surprises him with a one-two, and he reaches a right hand over the top. Jotko considers a takedown, possibly stung from the strikes absorbed, and Meerschaert stuffs him and works forward. When Meerschaert presses, Jotko scoops him up and drops him down on the mat. When on the ground, “GM3” goes after isolating an arm with both wrists, and then considers a triangle choke as well. Jotko moves, and as he does, they both climb back to their feet with one arm locked. Meerschaert drops down for a double-leg takedown, and he abandons it when Jotko’s defense holds up. Meerschaert cannot keep Jotko trapped against the wire, so he backs off and throws a few fists. Jotko passes by then so that he can connect with a knee, and Meerschaert counters with a left hand. A pair of high kicks from Jotko make them fall a little off-balance, and Jotko recovers faster and dives in to go after a takedown. Meerschaert pursues a triangle choke, and Jotko moves through it and keeps Meerschaert on his back, not allowing Meerschaert to scramble. Jotko sprawls when Meerschaert turns the corner, and he steps over to sit down and put Meerschaert on his back once more. Jotko pins Meerschaert down and drops down a couple light elbows to the waist, and Meerschaert closes his guard up. Jotko drills down a single elbow, and Meerschaert sits up and looks for a sweep or a reversal of any kind. Time is not on his side, and although Meerschaert gets back to his feet, it is too late. Jotko raises his fist in the air with five seconds to spare, and Meerschaert runs at him swinging his left hand. Jotko escapes to survive to the final bell, and boos rain down from the cramped UFC Apex.

The Official Result
Krzysztof Jotko def. Gerald Meerschaert via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Angelo picks Jotko, emphasizing his speed, athleticism, and high-volume striking. He notes Jotko's 83% takedown defense and believes he is smart enough not to grapple with Meerschaert, unlike previous opponents who made that mistake. He expects Jotko to stick and move, lighting up Meerschaert on the feet.
Big Brady picks Jotko despite being a self-proclaimed hater, citing Jotko's elite takedown defense and fight IQ. He expects Jotko to keep the fight standing, outpoint Meerschaert, and win a boring decision. He acknowledges Meerschaert's danger but thinks Jotko's style is a bad matchup.
Cody picks Jotko, believing his style stifles Meerschaert. He notes Jotko's solid takedown defense and cardio, and that Meerschaert's wins often come against opponents who gas. Cody thinks Jotko can even take Meerschaert down and control him, as Meerschaert's takedown defense is poor. He references Jotko's training at American Top Team and his experience against grapplers like Misha Cirkunov.
Daniel Levi leans toward Gerald Meerschaert as the underdog. He notes Meerschaert's opportunistic submission game and deceptive striking, while describing Jotko as a European point fighter who avoids risks. Levi questions if Jotko will give Meerschaert a finishing opportunity and mentions that Jotko was reportedly injured in his last loss. He sides with the dog in a fight he sees as close.
The host picks Jotko, citing his superior striking, movement, and takedown defense. He notes Meerschaert relies on opponents' mistakes and cardio issues, but Jotko is disciplined and won't gas. Jotko's lateral movement and jab will keep him safe, and he has good BJJ to avoid submissions. He expects Jotko to win a decision, as he is not a finisher.
Paul leans towards Jotko but is hesitant to bet at -165. He thinks Jotko should win by staying on the feet and avoiding grappling, but notes Jotko's low volume leads to close decisions. Paul acknowledges Meerschaert's submission danger but believes Jotko's takedown defense and cardio will be enough. He doesn't plan to bet it himself.
The Guru picks Gerald Meerschaert, noting his finishing ability and size advantage over Jotko. He believes Meerschaert has better hands and grappling, and that Jotko is mediocre. The Guru points out that if the fight goes to decision, it will be close, but the finishing ability heavily favors Meerschaert. He also mentions that Meerschaert is an underdog, which adds value.

Angelo picks Misha Cirkunov, believing he will eventually get a takedown and dominate on the ground. He notes that Cirkunov is a very good grappler with big shots and well-timed takedowns, while Jotko is a fast, athletic striker with 87% takedown defense. However, Angelo thinks Jotko's takedown defense will be tested and that once on the mat, Cirkunov has a huge advantage. He likes Cirkunov in DraftKings at $7,600 and may place a moneyline bet. He also likes the more more monkey knife fight pick.
Big Brady picks Misha Cirkunov to win by first-round submission, liking him as a dog. He notes Cirkunov is coming down from light heavyweight and will be the bigger fighter, with dangerous submission skills. Jotko has only one KO win in eight UFC years and has been submitted before. Cirkunov has fought much better competition (Glover Teixeira, Johnny Walker, Ryan Spann) and though he gets knocked out when he loses, Jotko is not a power puncher. Brady thinks one takedown is all it takes for Cirkunov to finish Jotko on the ground.
Cody picks Jotko, citing Cirkunov's poor chin and tendency to fade after the first round. He notes that Cirkunov is dropping to 185 for the first time, which could be a difficult weight cut. Jotko has good cardio and volume, and if he survives the first round, he should take over. He also mentions that Jotko's grappling has improved and that Cirkunov is a one-round fighter.
Daniel Levi picks Krzysztof Jotko, citing Cirkunov's tendency to fold when adversity hits, while Jotko is durable and has never quit. He notes Cirkunov's dangerous submissions but questions his chin and heart, especially at middleweight after cutting weight. Levi thinks Jotko can outpoint him or possibly knock him out, but he is not fully confident due to Cirkunov's early burst potential.
I think Cirkunov is the better fighter everywhere. Jotko is a point fighter with no finishing ability, while Cirkunov has excellent jiu-jitsu and decent striking. The only concern is Cirkunov's chin at 185, but Jotko doesn't hit hard. I like Cirkunov by submission at +300 or by decision at +550.
Paul leans towards Cirkunov as a dog, but wants to see the weigh-ins first. He notes that Jotko is not a power puncher and that Cirkunov has good grappling and strength. However, he is concerned about Cirkunov's chin and cardio. He suggests that if Cirkunov makes weight comfortably, he could be a live dog.
The MMA Guru picks Krzysztof Jotko, citing Misha Cirkunov's poor decision-making and chin issues after moving down 20 pounds. Jotko has good grappling defense and stand-up. He predicts Jotko will stuff takedowns and get a second-round TKO against the cage.

Shifting now to the middleweight category, both Strickland (22-3, 9-3 UFC) and Jotko (22-4, 9-4 UFC) are on quiet but impressive three-fight win streaks leading up to their pairing. The Octagon ranger for this 185-pound tilt is referee Herb Dean, and there is nothing but respect between these two that both look to move up the rankings as they touch gloves before coming out swinging. Jotko begins the fight with a big overhand left, and Strickland takes it on the chin and laughs it off. Jotko gets off a few leg kicks, and he circles away as Strickland looks to reach him with his punches. Strickland sticks him with a left hand, and he swats away a few punches from the Polish fighter that come back his way. Jotko has a punch blocked, and a body kick gets caught as Strickland tries to make him pay. The American wades forward with a short chain of punches, and Jotko circles away and tries to get a jab going. Jotko again sinks his left hand home, and Strickland ignores it and score a right of his own. Strickland stalks his man down, and Jotko gets his left through again. Strickland recklessly wades forward and eats a left hand twice, as Jotko has found the range of that. Strickland is not fazed as he clips Jotko with a straight right hand, and a one-two nearly takes Jotko’s legs out from beneath him. Strickland sees the finish may be coming, and he unloads with several punches as Jotko defends against the cage wall. Strickland stuffs a takedown in the process, and Jotko tries to sneak in an up-elbow. Strickland marks up Jotko’s face with a straight right hand, and Jotko’s overhand left counter gets blocked. Strickland’s face has not changed through the whole exchange, and he steps away when Jotko attempts the up-elbow again and spins. Round 2
Jotko begins the next round aggressively, with looping shots that Strickland does not bite on. Instead, he remains composed and sticks him with a few jabs and laser-focused right hands. Jotko ducks down and wings a right, but Strickland parries it and allows his man to throw a few more wild shots. Strickland slowly walks Jotko down, chasing his foe across the cage as Jotko sits on a big left that stings Strickland. Dean warns the two to close their fists, and Jotko slings a heavy body kick. Jotko reaches out with a pair of jabs and gets kicked in the chest. Strickland lances him with a right hand that splits the guard, and another snaps Jotko’s head back. Jotko wades in with haymakers that get blocked, and they trade kicks at the same time. Jotko spins with a kick, and Strickland times him and punches him in the side of the head. Jotko escapes just in time to not take much damage, and he comes out swinging. Strickland calmly blocks most of the strikes, walks through a jab and tries to tee up a left hand. A pair of leg kicks from Strickland get through on either side, and when he aims a kick to the body, Jotko counters him. The Polish fighter sticks out his foot with a push kick, and Strickland gives him a left straight down the pipe. Round 3
There is a glove touch to begin the last round, and Strickland kicks out at the knee. Jotko bears down on him but is interrupted on the way in with a left hand. Strickland continues his Terminator-like aggression of constantly walking forward, and never backing down no matter what may land on him. Jotko swings with booming shots, and Strickland avoids the brunt of them. Both square up and land big punches at the same time, and neither takes so much as a bad step. Strickland breaks up a punching barrage with a front kick, and he jumps in the air with a knee that allows him to punch as he lands. A trio of push kicks come from the American, and he snaps Jotko’s head back again with a stiff right hand. Jotko tries to time a kick with a left hand, and he gets off a right hand that surprises Strickland. Another big left also catches Strickland on the chin, but “Tarzan” swings through it without batting an eye. Strickland plants his foot on Jotko’s torso, and he does this again while Jotko swings wildly. A left hand rings Strickland’s bell, but Strickland replies with a leg kick and a heavy right hook. Jotko leaps forward with a punch barrage, and Strickland’s technical boxing defense allows him to protect himself from the majority of the harm. A body kick gets followed by a right hand, and Jotko stumbles backwards. The Polish fighter attempts to reach down for a takedown, and Strickland ignores it and lands a flying knee. Strickland sticks him with a straight right hand, and he spins with a punch. A crisp knee catches Jotko on the chin, and the two turn it up with a brawl at the end. The Official Result
Sean Strickland def. Krzysztof Jotko via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
Big Brady picks Sean Strickland to win by comfortable decision. He praises Strickland's boxing, volume, and takedown defense, noting that Jotko's low output will be a disadvantage. Brady believes Strickland is the better fighter everywhere and that Jotko's takedown attempts will be stuffed. He mentions that Strickland's losses are to elite competition, while Jotko has been knocked out by lesser fighters. A knockout would not surprise him.
Cody is high on Sean Strickland since his return from injury. He notes that Strickland shook off rust in the Jack Marshman fight and then looked even better against Brendan Allen, landing 94 significant strikes before a knockout. He praises Strickland's takedown defense (81% career, not taken down in 4 years) and his sharp jab. He thinks Jotko will try to grapple but Strickland's training at Dan Henderson's gym will help him keep it standing and butcher Jotko on the feet. However, he acknowledges the -260 price tag is too high for a top ticket play.
Daniel Levi picks Sean Strickland to win, citing his higher output, better boxing, and renewed confidence since moving to middleweight. He acknowledges Jotko's footwork and point-fighting style but believes Strickland's volume and pressure will be decisive. Levi also notes that the line is wide but still favors Strickland.
The host picks Sean Strickland by decision, expecting him to out-strike Jotko and stuff takedowns. He notes Jotko's recent losses by finish and his tendency to grind, but believes Strickland's striking and takedown defense will prevail. He also mentions a possible TKO.
Paul likes Strickland to win but is not excited about the -260 price. He agrees with Cody's assessment of Strickland's improvements and takedown defense. He thinks Jotko is serviceable but slowing down, and that Strickland's striking will be too much. He notes that Jotko's durability seems to be an issue and he is more tentative now, relying on grappling. Paul sees Strickland as the better fighter but the odds are prohibitive.
The MMA Guru picks Sean Strickland to win by second-round TKO over Krzysztof Jotko. He praises Strickland's takedown defense and boxing, noting that no one has taken him down since Kamaru Usman in 2017. He believes Jotko's chin is suspect and that Strickland will piece him up on the feet, eventually finishing him.

Daniel Levi leans towards Eryk Anders as the underdog. He notes that Jotko has lost confidence and has a habit of leaving his chin in the air. He believes Anders will touch Jotko's chin and put him down. He acknowledges that Jotko is more talented but thinks Anders can capitalize on Jotko's recent struggles.
The host picks Jotko, citing his ability to mix in grappling and his experience against better competition. He believes Jotko's reach and grappling advantage will allow him to drag Anders into deep waters and win a decision. He notes Anders' only chance is an early KO.

Angelo picks Pyfer, praising his power, pressure, and wrestling. He notes that Amedovski is a knockout-or-bust fighter who has lost three in a row and looked disinterested. Angelo believes Pyfer can win by knockout or submission and is safe for parlays.
Big Brady is very confident in Joe Pyfer to win by first-round submission. He notes that Pyfer is well-rounded with good wrestling, grappling, and power, while Amedovski has looked horrible in the UFC with a 0% takedown defense. Brady expects Pyfer to take the easiest path: take down Amedovski, beat him up, and submit him. He also mentions that Amedovski's only threat is landing a big shot in the first 60 seconds, but Pyfer should have him covered everywhere.
Cody thinks Pyfer has Amedovski beat everywhere: striking, wrestling, and ground game. He notes Amedovski's poor takedown defense and chin issues. Cody calls Pyfer a top ticket play and a good parlay piece, though he acknowledges the price is steep.
Daniel Levi picks Joe Pyfer to win but refuses to bet at minus 425. He thinks Pyfer is overrated, with low volume and a susceptibility to being taken down, as seen in his contender series fight. He expects Pyfer to win due to Amedovski's poor UFC performances, but views Pyfer as a -400 type and plans to fade him in future fights against better competition.
Jacob is very confident in Pyfer, noting that Amedovski looked like he didn't want to be there in his last fight. He believes Pyfer is hungry and can finish early. Jacob wanted to bet under 1.5 rounds but the odds moved. He thinks Pyfer can win by knockout or submission.
Amedovski has shown terrible fight IQ and durability, getting knocked out quickly by John Phillips and submitted by Joseph Holmes. Pyfer is bigger, faster, and more skilled everywhere. Pyfer should take this to the ground and submit him or knock him out early. The under 1.5 rounds is a strong play. I took a sprinkle on Pyfer by submission at +550 but he may look for the knockout instead.
Paul calls Amedovski the worst fighter on the roster and says Pyfer should roll. He notes Pyfer's well-rounded skills and that Amedovski has been finished by lower-level opponents. Paul says he wouldn't bat an eye at people parlaying Pyfer.
The MMA Guru picks Joe Pyfer by KO in the first round. He views Alen Amedovski as a fighter paid to lose, noting he was easily submitted by Joseph Holmes and KO'd by John Phillips. He thinks Amedovski is small for the division, out of shape, and 34 years old. He believes Pyfer's power, reach advantage, youth, and momentum will lead to a first-round knockout.

Angelo picks Joseph Holmes because of his size, versatility, and ability to mix striking and grappling. He notes that Amedovski has been on a long layoff and has shown holes in his grappling. Holmes's length and takedown threat should open up his hands. Angelo will likely stay away from betting but trusts Holmes to get the win.
Big Brady picks Joseph Holmes to win by first-round submission, but calls it a sketchy fight between two low-level fighters. He notes Holmes has a size advantage and a brown belt in BJJ, while Amedovski has poor takedown defense and ground game. However, Amedovski hits hard and could knock Holmes out early. He says laying -200 on Holmes is not ideal.
Cody picks Holmes, citing his size advantage (6'4", 80-inch reach), youth (26), and multiple paths to victory. He notes Amedovski's poor takedown defense, lack of ground game, and three-year layoff. He believes Holmes' length, clinch knees, and improved cardio after a full camp will be too much for Amedovski.
The host does not discuss this fight in detail. He mentions Holmes in the context of live betting spots, suggesting Holmes after round one if grappling is heavy, but does not make a clear pick or provide analysis.
Paul is hesitant but leans Holmes. He notes Amedovski's terrible UFC performances and long layoff, but also acknowledges Holmes' green stand-up and cardio issues. He thinks Holmes' size and grappling should be enough, but is not fully confident.
The MMA Guru picks Joseph Holmes but is hesitant. He thinks Holmes has a massive advantage on the feet and will land good shots while Amedovski struggles with takedowns. He trusts Holmes more now that he has octagon experience. He predicts a second-round TKO with a fadeaway hook.
