Jim Miller vs. Jared Gordon
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Gordon (-325), Miller (+260)

Round 1
It’s Jim Miller (38-19, 1 NC; 27-18, 1 NC UFC) fight day, the first one of these this year. Coming up on 43 years of age, the New Jersey native still has a ways to go to reach 50 UFC bouts. He can get to 47 tonight once the cage doors close and referee Keith Peterson says go, when he battles Gordon (21-8, 1 NC; 9-7, 1 NC UFC). This lightweight clash kicks off with no nonsense and no fist bump either.
Miller stalks Gordon down slowly and cautiously, keeping his gloves up to defend a high kick. Miller leaps forward and catches Gordon with a shovel uppercut. Gordon has to take a quick count of his teeth and absorbs a knee from up close. Miller breaks off and takes a body kick. Miller throws a low kick that bangs into Gordon’s cup, and Gordon tries to take him down and abandons it to adjust his groin. Peterson calls time and gives Gordon as much time as he needs to recover. After 80 seconds, Gordon is good to go, and Miller apologizes for the accidental foul. Gordon strikes first with a high kick that harmlessly bangs into the guard, and Miller crowds him behind a pair of hooks. Miller kicks the side again and is driven back with a right hand.
Gordon jabs the body with the ball of his foot, and he catches a Miller body kick to shoot for a takedown.
This reckless shot is just traveling down the road to perdition for Gordon, as Miller snatches up a guillotine choke and cinches both legs around the waist, gripping the submission with everything he has. Miller rolls Gordon to the side, squeezing with his self-describes "old man strength." Miller arches his back and has Gordon dead to rights. Gordon surrenders so he does not go out on his shield, and the victorious Miller leaps atop the cage to let loose a roar of victory.
In less than four minutes, the OG Miller has notched his 28th victory in the Octagon, extending his own record. He has now finished 20 opponents as a UFC fighter, one shy of organizational leader Charles Oliveira. In victory, Miller gives it up to his son for beating cancer, declaring that anything he does in combat pales in comparison to what his offspring went through.

Jared Gordon

Angelo picks Jared Gordon but is not fully confident. He notes that Jim Miller is tough and experienced, and that the age difference might only be half a second faster. He thinks the fight is competitive and that Jim Miller plus 3.5 is not the worst bet. He mentions that Jim Miller has been finished in all his losses in New Jersey.

"I am picking Jared Gordon here. But the idea that Jim Miller can't hang on the feet seems something that you can dismiss."
AN
Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident picked May 3, 2026 (6 days before fight)
Jared Gordon

Angelo picks Jared Gordon, stating his hands are better and his takedown defense should be good enough. He dismisses Gordon's last loss due to being hit by a car. He notes Gordon is a touch younger and faster. However, he thinks the 3-to-1 odds are crazy and will not bet on it. He acknowledges Jim Miller's home advantage and toughness.

Angelo says he is not spending on the 3-to-1 odds.
"I'm gonna pick Jared Gordon here because I do think his hands are better and I think the takedown defense should be good enough to defend some of these Jim Miller takedowns. But 3 to 1 money is crazy. I'm not spending it."
BI
Big Brady Expert Confident picked May 6, 2026 (3 days before fight)
Jared Gordon

Big Brady picks Jared Gordon, assuming he wasn't hit by a car before this fight. He notes Gordon fights at a high level and should be the minute winner everywhere. Brady expects Gordon to win by decision, though he acknowledges Jim Miller has power and a guillotine. He is rooting for Miller but thinks Gordon gets it done on the scorecards.

"I'm going to take Jared Gordon to win this fight by decision."
CO
Cody Saftic Expert Confident picked May 6, 2026 (3 days before fight)
Jared Gordon

Cody picks Gordon, citing his youth and well-rounded skills. He thinks Gordon's striking and grappling are a step ahead of Miller, who is older and less active. Cody expects Gordon to win by decision.

"I'm picking Jared Gordon. Despite the fact that I want Jim Miller to win."
CO
Connor Ruebusch Expert Confident picked May 8, 2026 (1 day before fight)
Jared Gordon

Connor also picks Gordon, focusing on directionality: Gordon has a clear process of pressuring and putting out volume, while Miller never has. Connor notes that Miller has no ability to be the one pressuring and will just accept the fight Gordon wants. He adds that Gordon is a little too fast and put together with his hands for Miller to take him out of his game.

Miller opened at +210, now +250; Gordon opened at -250, now -300.
"I think I will because he is going to understand how to kind of tell the story of the fight to dictate in a way that Jim Miller never has been able to."

Daniel Vreeland Expert Confident picked May 8, 2026 (1 day before fight)

Daniel picks Gordon, predicting a 29-28 decision where Miller wins the first round but Gordon edges out the last two with top control. He respects Miller's legacy but sees Gordon's youth and grappling as decisive.

"I'm also going Gordon. I'm gonna go 2928 decision. I think Miller wins the first round. Gordon kind of edges out the last two with top control."

FightingPost AI Expert Confident picked May 9, 2026 (fight day)
Jared Gordon

Predicted method: KO/TKO Round 3. Gordon is the younger, more active fighter with superior striking volume (5.64 SLpM) and accuracy (53%) compared to the 41-year-old Miller. Miller's takedown defense (48%) is a liability, and Gordon has solid takedown defense (60%) to keep the fight standing. Gordon's recent KO win over Thiago Moises shows his power, while Miller has been knocked out multiple times. Gordon's pace and pressure should overwhelm Miller, leading to a late stoppage or clear decision.

Jared Gordon

The MMA Guru picks Jared Gordon but calls him a 'risky pick'. He notes Gordon's inconsistency but believes Jim Miller has lost his pop and recent performances have declined. He thinks Gordon should figure out the 55-year-old Miller and get a finish, though he initially says decision then corrects to finish.

"I'm going to go with Jared Gordon winning this one by decision. Um, by finish. Sorry."

Zane Simon Expert Confident picked May 8, 2026 (1 day before fight)
Jared Gordon

Zane picks Gordon, citing his improved boxing and ability to dictate the fight with pressure and volume. He notes that Jim Miller lacks a clear process and is not a strategic thinker, while Gordon has a clear game plan. However, Zane acknowledges Miller's power and finishing ability, making Gordon vulnerable despite being the favorite.

Miller opened at +210, now +250; Gordon opened at -250, now -300. Should probably be closer than that.

Chase Hooper vs. Jim Miller
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Hooper (-800), Miller (+550)

Round 1
While it is understandable, it is still unfortunate that announcer Bruce Buffer declined to shout out Miller’s (38-18, 1 NC; 27-17, 1 NC UFC) preferred nickname that was certainly not “A-10.” We get what we get, so “Expletive Deleted” will have to hold serve for now. The grizzled veteran, one whose name is all over the leaderboards including the most fights (soon to be 46) and the most victories (27 for now), will throw down with a man 16 years his junior. In a contest of old man strength vs. youthful exuberance, Hooper (15-3-1, 7-3 UFC) will represent the latter and will close as an astronomical betting favorite north of -800. Things like 41 and -800 are just numbers to Miller, who will meet Hooper in the center of the cage while referee Kerry Hatley watches on. They do not touch gloves. When Miller plods forward, Hooper backs away and uses his kicks to keep his preferred distance. Hooper suddenly attacks with a swarm of punches, and Miller sits in the pocket and fires back at him. Hooper gets the better of an exchange, and he slides back and clips Miller with a solid right hand. Miller is unfazed and cracks his foe with a left hook, and Hooper punches and shoots low for a single. Miller drops to a knee to defend it, and he wraps up a guillotine choke that forces Hooper to stand. Hooper drops to the floor to roll out of it, and Miller lowers himself down and blasts the youngster in the face with a standing-to-ground left hand. Hooper hunts for a triangle choke, and Miller punches his way out of it and reassumes top position in the guard. “A-10” stacks Hooper up to prevent Hooper from going after anything, and Miller latches on with a guillotine and jumps guard to secure it. Hooper calmly works his neck out of harm’s way, and he finds himself in top. Miller turns over and gives up his back, and Hooper is quick to start hunting for a standing rear-naked choke. Miller leans against the cage to take some of the weight off, and he tries to scrape “The Dream” off of him using the chain links. Hooper has the body triangle wrapped around the waist to remain on Miller’s back, and he hacks at Miller with an elbow. Hooper attempts a neck crank, and Miller bucks and twists to get Hooper off of his back. Hooper hits his back and instantly attacks an armbar, and Miller punches his way out of that and a subsequent triangle setup. Miller nails his man with a big left hand, and he pushes out of a quick triangle that materializes out of nowhere. Miller stands up, and Hooper follows him and pushes out a front kick. One more front kick from Hooper results in him getting caught with an overhand right, and the horn sounds to end the dramatic round.

Round 2
Miller starts out the round ready to get in the pocket and exchange, and he scores a solid left hand to back Hooper off. When Hooper presses him, Miller tags him with another left. The youngster chains a front kick into a spinning back fist, and Miller defends against them and allows Hooper to take him down so he can grip hold of a two-on-one wrist lock. Hooper elbows him in the side while Miller clings to the limb, using it to work back to his feet. Hooper takes his back standing and wrenches him to the ground, where he flirts with a rear-naked choke to further control his foe. Miller works his way back to his feet and leans himself on the wire, and Hooper softens him up and is pulled off of Miller’s back, but he sells out for a takedown and lands in side control. After Hooper gets off some strikes, Miller fights to his feet, and he considers a guillotine when Hooper pursues a mat return. Miller lets it go and stands up, and Hooper kicks off the fencing and tosses Miller to his back. Hooper controls Miller from the side and then back, and the two scramble and roll to find themselves in an awkward situation. Hoop looks to lace Miller’s legs and spread them apart for a banana split, and he tugs on Miller’s foot to further hold on tight. Miller survives this and makes it to the bell.

Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Hooper
Brian Knapp scores the round: 10-9 Hooper
Tristen Critchfield scores the round: 10-9 Hooper

Round 3
Hooper wants to take the fight down to begin the final round, with Miller wearing it after 10 minutes of combat. The control of Hooper starts to take over, as he latches on the elder statesman’s back and wrangles him to the floor. Hooper again pursues a leglock from a strange angle, and Miller’s knee is trapped in a precarious predicament. They remain stuck in a 50-50 of sorts, with a possible twister or other unorthodox submission coming together. Miller on his back, has his legs caught between Hooper’s, and his torso is about to turn the wrong direction until Hooper decides to abandon it and take top position. Hooper clings to the top position like Saran wrap, nullifying Miller and causing the audience to start booing. Hooper resides in half guard, smothering and hanging tight until posturing up with a few elbows to the side. Hooper sits up with seconds to go, and the fight that started with a roar ends with a whimper.

Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Hooper (29-28 Hooper)

Damon Jackson vs. Jim Miller
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Jackson (-170), Miller (+142)

Round 1
Two vets on the wrong end of 35 will be matched against one another as the prelims carry on. Miller (37-18, 1 NC; 26-17, 1 NC UFC) will be seeking to improve on his UFC-leading win tally, while Jackson (23-7-1, 1 NC; 6-5-1, 1 NC UFC) has regressed to the mean and is a loss away from a .500 record after two stints in the promotion. For as long as it lasts, this one should be a good one, and referee Keith Peterson is on top of the lightweight action as well as the nonsense. There is no glove touch that comes from the elder statesmen, as they want to go after it immediately. Jackson attacks first, connecting with a few power punches to introduce himself. Miller fires back with an overhand right, takes a right to the body and comes back with another clubbing punch. The two clash legs at the same time when kicking, and Miller dings Jackson with an uppercut when defending a single-leg takedown. Jackson pushes Miller to the wire, and chants for “Miller” drown out all other noise in the building. This energizes “A-10,” who breaks out of the clinch and stuffs another takedown to boot. Jackson punches his way into an exchange, and Miller cuts him when firing back. Miller further opens the cut on the eyebrow with a step-in elbow, and he swings a big right hand that is ducked and countered. Jackson tosses out a front kick, and Miller throws back with fire. Another front kick from Jackson gets in, and Miller pressures forward and whips a low kick that lands with a whump. Miller sits down with a left hand that makes both men take a step back, and he is prepared to defend against what comes next. Jackson dives after him, with an ill-advised naked takedown that is stopped in its tracks by a Miller guillotine choke.
Miller jumps guard to complete the submission, and as soon as Jackson hits the mat, he realizes the choke is so deep and so tight that he almost abandons ship immediately. Miller keeps squeezing for all his might, and Jackson decides against going out on his shield and surrenders.
It is the first time that Jackson has ever tapped in his long career, with his previous submission defeat of the technical variety that put him out. The ageless wonder does it again, submitting a man with incredible jiu-jitsu without taking much damage. The crowd goes wild, as the UFC’s all-time winningest fighters adds one more to the total. Miller tells commentator Joe Rogan that there is still tread left on the tires, and says he plans on making it to fight 50 in the UFC. On the other side of the equation—as there is the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in almost every fight—Jackson removes his gloves and leaves them in the center of the Octagon, not wishing to speak to the crowd to give Miller his time to shine. Shine he did.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Lean picked Apr 7, 2024 (6 days before fight)
King Green

Angelo leans Bobby Green based on skill set, noting Green's better striking and takedown defense. However, he is not confident due to Green's recent knockout losses and Miller's resurgence. He calls the -200 odds absurd and advises staying away from betting.

Odds comment: -200 is absurd for this fight
"I am going to lean Bobby green very very slightly minus 200 is absolutely absurd for this fight"

Cody Saftic Expert Confident picked Apr 11, 2024 (2 days before fight)
King Green

Cody picks Bobby Green, citing his superior footwork, volume, and jab. He notes that Jim Miller is slower and more flat-footed now, and no longer relies on wrestling. Green's takedown defense is solid, and Miller is unlikely to wrestle. Cody thinks the fight will resemble a sparring match where Green picks Miller apart with the jab. He warns that Miller is a fan favorite and the crowd could influence judges, but on paper, Green's style defeats Miller. Cody expects a decision win for Green.

"On paper Bobby green has a style to defeat him so the pick is Green."
CO
Connor Ruebusch Expert Hesitant picked Apr 12, 2024 (1 day before fight)
King Green

Connor picks Green, arguing that Miller's game is not suited to track down a mobile striker like Green. He notes that Miller is best when he can plant his feet in the middle distance, but Green will keep moving and counter. Connor believes Green's ability to fire back with better offense will be the difference, though Miller's kicks could be troublesome.

Odds: Miller opened +160, now +155; Green opened -208, now -175. Connor mentions the line movement.
"I got to take green to just be able to have a competitive interesting fight, maybe eat a couple of shots that he lunges in and Miller is sitting and waiting on a counter."

Daniel Vreeland Expert Confident picked Apr 10, 2024 (3 days before fight)
King Green

Daniel Vreeland picks Bobby Green, citing his speed, volume, and higher level of competition. He believes Green's striking and cardio will outpace Miller, despite concerns about Green's recent knockout loss. Vreeland notes Miller's momentum but trusts Green's technical edge.

"I'm gonna pick Bobby Green to get it done"

Lucrative James does not make a pick for this fight. He calls it a feel-good fight and is excited because Jim Miller is fighting on UFC 100, 200, and 300. He says Bobby Green always brings hype and entertainment. No prediction is given.

"Jim Miller versus Bobby Green that's just a feel-good fight Jim Miller for UFC 100 UFC 200 and UFC 300 well is going to fight UFC 300 so I'm excited for that fight as well"

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Confident picked Apr 12, 2024 (1 day before fight)
King Green

Green is the better technical striker and his defensive grappling is good enough to keep the fight upright. Miller might land some big shots early but Green will roll with them and put it on Miller in rounds two and three, winning on the scorecards.

decision
"I think for the most part green will roll with them well enough to take the brunt of it off and then really start to put it on Jim Miller through rounds two and three winning this fight on the scorecards"

Paul Shaughnessy Expert Confident picked Apr 11, 2024 (2 days before fight)
King Green

Paul agrees, noting that Green's footwork and jab should keep Miller at bay. He mentions that Green is coming off a bad knockout loss to Jalin Turner, but Miller doesn't have the power to replicate that. Paul thinks Miller's best chance is to land a right hand and get a takedown, but Green's takedown defense is good. He expects Green to win a decision, possibly a clear one.

"I like Bobby green too."

The MMA Guru Expert Confident picked Apr 8, 2024 (5 days before fight)
Jim Miller

The MMA Guru picks Jim Miller to defeat Bobby Green by TKO in the second round. He predicts Miller will chop at Green's lead leg, find the chin after making Green hesitant, and notes Green's recent knockout loss to Jalin Turner may have affected him. He emphasizes Miller's momentum and ability to shoot takedowns.

"Jim Miller is going to destroy the lead leg of Bobby green he's going to hack it to Pieces."
ZA
Zane Simon Expert Hesitant picked Apr 12, 2024 (1 day before fight)
King Green

Zane picks Green, believing his defensive awareness and skill will allow him to adjust as the fight goes on. He notes that Miller's meat-and-potatoes style is effective early but predictable, and Green's footwork and counters will take over. Zane acknowledges that Green has looked shaky recently but trusts his technical edge over Miller's plodding pressure.

Odds: Miller opened +160, now +155; Green opened -208, now -175. Zane mentions the line movement.
"I am going to pick Bobby Green because I think Jim Miller is so meat and potato potatoes that he is going to have all the success he's ever going to have in the fight in like the first six minutes."

Jim Miller vs. Gabriel Benitez
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Miller (-120), Benitez (+100)

Round 1
It’s Miller (36-17, 1 NC; 25-16, 1 NC UFC) time. The storied veteran takes on Benitez (23-10, 7-6 UFC) and already has his next date on the calendar circled: April 13. Before then, he has to get past the fiery “Moggly,” who should not just serve as a heavy bag. The co-main event will be covered by referee Dan Miragliotta. The lightweights have all the respect in the world for one another, they touch ‘em up before engaging, and there’s a bad moon on the rise. Miller parries a jab and takes a one-two on the chin, and he walks Benitez down. Benitez tries to back him off with a front kick, and he scores a low kick. Miller gives him one back immediately, and he scores three punches up top and a left to the body. Miller scores a low kick, and he aims a right to the body. Miller walks his foe down and unloads with punches, and Benitez is marked up already and defends with a knee. They trade leg kicks, with Miller throwing harder. Miller chops down the lead leg of his opponent, and Benitez drives a one-two down the pipe. Benitez gets off another one-two, and Miller pushes a front kick out of the way to make Benitez slip. Benitez jumps back up, and he swings heavy punches including a left hand that marks up Miller’s right eye. They connect with right hands at the same time, and Miller blitzes forward to back Benitez off. Miller blasts the body with two loud knees, and Benitez escapes on the outside and gets back to striking range. Miller follows him and swings, and he gets clipped with a left hand. Benitez scores a low kick, Miller fires it back and walks through a jab. Miller plods ahead with punches and an inside leg kick, and he gets one off on the other side. Benitez sticks out a few jabs, and Miller crowds him but does not land flush in an exchange. Miller keeps coming forward, getting off a left hand and a knee up the middle. Benitez ties him up, and Miller aims a body shot before the two split up. Benitez goes to the body, and Miller goes up top. Benitez flicks out a few jabs and gets backed off with a hefty low kick, and he reaches Miller with a long left. Miller loads up on a high kick, and Benitez springs into action with several punches and a body kick. Benitez tags his foe with a left hand, and Miller blinks it out and keeps his guard up to defend another one-two that soars at him at high speed. Miller leaps ahead with a right hook, and he gets met on the way in with a left hand and a low kick. Benitez gets off several jabs and a left hook follows the fourth, and Miller is on him with his own combination to end the spirited round.

Sherdog Scores
Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Miller
Tristen Critchfield scores the round: 10-9 Miller
Tyler Treese scores the round: 10-9 Miller

Round 2
The lightweights touch ‘em up to get started, and fists meet faces shortly thereafter. Benitez wades through a few punches and then backs off, but Miller is right on him and nails him with two leg kicks. Benitez connects with a clean left hand to shake Miller up, and he eats a few punches as Miller is right on him. Miller blasts him with a left hand, lands another, drives up a knee and pounds Benitez with another short left. Miller slashes out an elbow, and Benitez is no worse for wear as he backs away. Miller keeps the high pace and whips down low kicks that have welted up the Mexican’s legs. Benitez looks to get his jab going frequently, and the low kicks from Miller make Benitez lift his leg up preemptively to block them. They land powerful punches, and Miller strides forward confidently to nail Benitez with an elbow. Miller changes things up and hits an easy takedown, and Benitez turns to one side in an effort to set up an armbar. Miller sees it coming and shuts it down, and he stacks Benitez up and works the body. Miller continues to strike, and Benitez moves his legs up to set up a high guard to for a potential submission setup. Miller breaks out of it by connecting with two nasty elbows, and Benitez rolls frantically to grab hold of Miller’s arm and lock down an armbar. Miller moves the proper way through it and gets out of danger, and he again holds himself on top of Benitez and hammers him with standing-to-ground punches. As Benitez turns after absorbing a particularly heavy blow, Miller takes his back and secures a body triangle. Benitez hand-fights to prevent any rear-naked choke, and Miller uses one left to break the wrist lock so that he can isolate Benitez’ neck. Benitez survives to the end of the round.

Sherdog Scores
Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Miller
Tristen Critchfield scores the round: 10-9 Miller
Tyler Treese scores the round: 10-9 Miller

Round 3
The fighters clap hands together as the last round opens, and they are just as willing to slug it out as ever. They stand in the center of the Octagon and trade leather briefly, and Miller targets the busted lead leg of his foe with a kick. Benitez stands firm and throws punches, and he comes up short with a high kick. Miller punches high and kicks low in response, as his corner cheers the kick as if he were in a muay thai contest. Miller sneaks two left hands around the guard, and Benitez is tough as nails but his nose starts leaking. Miller lands a heavy leg kick, and when Benitez backs him off with a few punches, Miller comes back firing with a kick he turns his hip towards. Benitez walks forward to throw hard, and Miller’s eyes begin to close from swelling. Benitez continues to pepper him with punches and kicks, and Miller staggers him with a straight right hand. Miller wades forward without a care in the world, and Benitez’s volume is starting to frustrate his opponent. Miller connects with another vicious low kick, and he shoots for a double that lands him in half guard easily. Benitez looks to scramble, and he gives his back up.
Miller gets the body lock he was looking for, and he immediately starts pursuing the choke. Benitez turns to his side, but Miller has him locked down and fishing for rear-naked choke grip. Miller cranks down with his forearm on Benitez’ jaw, and he does not even bother to slide it under the chin before he starts squeezing. Knowing that he has no way out, Benitez surrenders to the face crank, and Miller has done it.
He adds to his record with the most victories in UFC history, and hardcore fans around the world are elated at the grizzled veteran getting it done by stoppage once more. Pleasing the crowd and commentator Michael Bisping, Miller proudly declares that he has his sights set on UFC 300 in April, with three names in mind: Paul Felder, Matt Brown and Brock Lesnar.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Hesitant picked Jan 6, 2024 (7 days before fight)
Jim Miller

Angelo picks Jim Miller but with low confidence due to his age (40). He notes Miller's late-career power and toughness, but acknowledges Gabriel Benítez is a dangerous striker with power. He thinks Miller's wrestling and grit could get the win, but won't bet on a 40-year-old.

"Jim Miller is going to be the pick I do think he wins this fight."

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Jan 8, 2024 (5 days before fight)
Jim Miller

Big Brady likes Jim Miller's recent form, noting he's been active and knocking people out. He questions Benítez's durability and inactivity, as Benítez has been knocked out multiple times and hasn't fought in over a year. Brady predicts Miller will knock out Benítez in the first round, possibly via a club-and-sub.

Gabriel Benítez

Cody picks Benítez, citing his solid takedown defense from training with elite wrestlers, his volume striking, and leg kicks that can immobilize Miller. He notes Miller's lack of volume and takedown attempts in recent fights, and believes Benítez can sprawl and keep the fight standing to win by volume.

Daniel Vreeland Expert Lean picked Jan 9, 2024 (4 days before fight)
Gabriel Benítez

Daniel Vreeland leans with Gabriel Benítez, citing his youth and durability. He expects a competitive first round, but if it goes past that, Benítez's kicks and knees will wear down Jim Miller. Vreeland acknowledges Miller's finishing ability but thinks Benítez's chin issues are mitigated by the fact that only heavy hitters have knocked him out.

"I'm gonna lean with the younger Mowgli Bonitz here."

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Lean picked Jan 8, 2024 (5 days before fight)
Gabriel Benítez

Gabriel Benítez is a technical striker with a strong kicking game, especially to the body, and trains at AKA. He has a significant layoff but looked impressive in his last win over Charlie Ontiveros. Jim Miller is 40 years old and tends to fade in later rounds if he doesn't get an early finish. Benítez's technical striking advantage should allow him to outwork Miller from distance and potentially hurt him to the body. I expect Benítez to win by decision, but I'm cautious about the layoff and Miller's power. I'd wait for better odds on Benítez, ideally plus 140 or higher.

Gabriel Benítez

Paul leans towards Benítez as the number climbs, noting that Jim Miller's recent wins are against low-level competition and that Benítez has a speed advantage and kicks very hard. He mentions that if the line moves to +150, he would take a shot on Benítez, but he's not heavily invested.

Jesse Butler vs. Jim Miller
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: N/A

Round 1
The widest gap in UFC experience will take place in this ultra-late notice lightweight fight. With the most fights (and wins) in company history, Miller (35-17, 1 NC; 24-16, 1 NC UFC) gladly accepted anyone they threw at him, after losing opponents Ludovit Klein and Jared Gordon. Taking the call this week, Butler (12-4, 0-0 UFC) will be making his UFC debut on the heels of five straight wins, including three in the growing Fury FC organization. In comparison, Miller had already competed 20 times in the UFC by the time Butler made his professional debut. This pairing that may not end in the hands of the judges will be officiated by referee Dan Miragliotta, and the fighters are glad to be competing and display this with a glove touch. Butler leads off with a left hand, and he loads up on a right hand and a body kick. Miller avoids all three, but he walks into a big pair of punches as the newcomer is ready for him. “A-10” flies into action with a right hand and a left, and the second stings his foe.
Miller corks back a bomb of a left hand and detonates it on the chin of the debutant, and Butler collapses like a bird that’s just had its wings clipped. Just to punctuate his performance, Miller clobbers the unconscious fighter with a devastating uppercut before Miragliotta can get between them.
Butler is all the way out, and takes some time to regain his senses from the vicious destruction. Miller declares in his post-fight interview that he has few things left he wants to accomplish in the sport, other than landing a kimura on an opponent, fighting at UFC 300 and facing someone he is “a fan” of in the cage. If Miller keeps fighting like that, it will be up to him when he wants to hang it up, as he very likely earned the fastest finish of his illustrious career while extending his record for the most wins in organizational history (25).

Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident picked May 31, 2023 (3 days before fight)

Angelo picks Gordon, noting he looked sharp against Bobby Green before the headbutt. He thinks Gordon's wrestling and volume striking will be too much for an aging Miller. He is concerned about Gordon being knocked out recently but believes Miller has slowed down. He is not betting this fight.

Cody Saftic Expert Hesitant picked May 31, 2023 (3 days before fight)

Cody picks Jared Gordon very reluctantly. He acknowledges Miller's power and submission threat early, but thinks Gordon will work him over slowly if it goes 15 minutes. Cody notes Gordon's wrestling and striking volume should be enough to outpoint Miller. He admits Miller could knock Gordon out, but he's sticking with Gordon as the right pick despite the risk.

"I'm looking to get the right pick and I think the right pick is Jared Gordon so very reluctantly again I I will stick with them"

Connor Ruebusch Expert Hesitant picked Jun 1, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Jim Miller

Connor picks Miller, hedging against Gordon's recent knockout loss. He admits that in a vacuum he would pick Gordon, but is too worried about Gordon's durability after being knocked out cold by Bobby Green a month ago. Connor notes that Miller still has sharp counter-punching and can finish anyone, and that Gordon's new patient style might play into Miller's hands.

Concern about Gordon's recent KO loss and short notice replacement.
"I'm going to take Jim Miller. I'm going to hedge against Gordon here."

Gordon puts high volume and pressure, mixing striking, clinching, and grappling. Miller fades in later rounds and relies on early success. Gordon will tie him up, maintain pace, and win a decision. The five-week layoff from the no-contest is not a major concern.

"I like Gordon to just go out there and do work do what he did to Leonardo Santos in terms of just putting forward pressure on and just putting output and volume that Jim Miller may not be able to keep up with"

Jim Miller

Paul picks Jim Miller as the value side at +155. He notes Miller has one-punch power and a chin that could catch Gordon, who has been knocked out before. Paul mentions Gordon's recent no-contest due to a headbutt and his history of getting knocked out. He thinks Miller could finish early, but if it goes the distance, Gordon might outwork him. Paul is reluctant but sees value in the underdog.

The MMA Guru picks Jesse Butler (referred to as Jared Gordon, but the fight is Jim Miller vs Jesse Butler; likely a mistake in the transcript, but the pick is for Butler). He notes that Butler was looking good before being KO'd by Bobby Green (which was a headbutt). He believes Butler is simply a better fighter than Jim Miller, who he thinks has lost a step, as seen in his loss to Alexander Hernandez. He predicts Butler by decision, 30-27 or 29-28.

Zane Simon Expert Confident picked Jun 1, 2023 (2 days before fight)
No clear pick

Zane picks Gordon in a vacuum, believing Gordon's improved boxing and pressure will be too much for the aging Miller. He notes that Miller's striking falls apart when he is forced to consistently go forward or backward, and Gordon's style can exploit that. However, Zane expresses concern about Gordon's recent knockout loss to Bobby Green just a month ago, which could affect his durability.

Concern about Gordon's recent KO loss (April 22nd) and short turnaround.
"I would pick him in a vacuum based on the styles and the age of Jim Miller."

Alexander Hernandez vs. Jim Miller
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Hernandez (-230), Miller (+195)

Round 1
The main card kicks off with what should be an action-packed 155-pound tilt for as long as it lasts. On a hot streak with three finishes in a row, Miller (35-16, 1 NC; 24-15, 1 NC UFC) is determined to rattle off several more wins and potentially call it quits at UFC 300 next year. Standing in his way is late replacement Hernandez (13-6, 5-5 UFC), who returns to his weight class after an ill-fated trip to featherweight two months ago. Referee Herb Dean watches on as the two men decide not to touch gloves. Instead, Hernandez moves to the center of the cage and looses a head kick, and Miller takes it and fires back with a left hand down the pipe. Miller kicks the lead leg, counters a jab with a left hand and absorbs a calf kick coming back his way. Miller darts forward with a one-two, and Hernandez pushes off to slide a finger in Miller’s right eye. Miller does not acknowledge it, and Dean calls it for him and lets him recover anyway. Miller is good to go after about 15 seconds, and he reintroduces himself with a gnarly leg kick that makes Hernandez pick it up and lift it far back. Miller rushes forward with a few punches, and he rips a head kick that collides with the dome of his foe. Miller rings his bell a few more times with punches, and Hernandez separates and gathers his thoughts. The veteran keeps working on the lead leg, and Hernandez responds in kind. Hernandez catches Miller coming forward with one to the low calf, and Miller stumbles and blitzes with a four-punch salvo that drives Hernandez to the wall. Hernandez keeps his wits about him, circles away and pushes out a front kick that connects with the jaw. They fire off head kicks at the same time, and Miller knocks his foe back with a right hand. Hernandez gets off two punches before Miller can catch him, and he kicks Miller on the way back. A Hernandez jab leads to Miller racing forward with a one-two, and Hernandez slides out of harm’s way and plants the ball of his foot on the chest. Miller swings wildly with hooks, and Hernandez evades them all and continues feeding Miller a steady diet of kicks. Miller snaps the head back with a left hand, and he gives chase as Hernandez backpedals. Miller plods straight forward, throwing haymakers, while Hernandez strafes away. Miller swings a high kick that is barely blocked in time, and Hernandez works the lead leg in response. As Hernandez comes in throwing a punch, Miller attempts to kick the body, but it comes up short and clacks off the cup. Hernandez needs about 20 seconds to gather his wind, and they get back to exchanging. The round ends as Miller’s nose starts to bleed.

Round 2
The lightweights meet in the middle, and the first strike lands in the form of a Miller kick to the thigh. Hernandez backs off to crack Miller with a short left hook, and he scores a high kick that is barely blocked. Miller runs straight forward to attack, and Hernandez snipes him with a left hook again before stopping the takedown. Hernandez steps in with a knee to the body, and he jabs to the same spot and retreats. Miller gets stung with a right hand over the top, and Miller bounces off the fence and throws back with a vengeance. Miller takes a body kick and a right hand, and Hernandez is starting to bust Miller’s face up and cause some serious swelling. Miller scores a solid left hand but it is one-and-done before Hernandez can move away and counter. Hernandez ignores a low kick to split the guard with a straight right hand, and he rips a standing elbow right on the forehead. Miller goes up high with a kick, and it is easily blocked. Miller scores at the end of a two-punch salvo, but not before absorbing a kick to the ribs. Miller takes one on the chin and fires back, but Hernandez appears the faster fighter and the more elusive of the two. Hernandez splits the guard with a few strikes, beating Miller to the punch and slowing him down. “The Great Ape” blasts the midsection with a knee, and he jabs a few more times before having to block a head kick. Hernandez steps in to elbow and then knee Miller, and Miller can only take them without being able to land back with much. Miller stings his foe with a left hand, and he rushes after him with a few blows but is stunned from an elbow. Hernandez looks for elbows as he backs Miller up to the wall, and Miller wings a right hand that Hernandez practically ignores. Miller backs Hernandez up with a few more strikes, and he blocks a knee up the middle with kicks the liver. Hernandez digs a kick to the body and comfortably lands a jab as he backs off, and the round comes to a close.

Round 3
Fists fly immediately to start off the last round, and Miller pushes the pace and knocks Hernandez back a few times. Hernandez strikes back, ripping opening a cut under Miller’s eye. Miller replies with a sweeping low kick, and he kicks the same spot when Hernandez recovers. Miller fights through a few jabs to charge with a barrage of punches, and he rocks Hernandez with a left hand over the top. Hernandez ties him up against the wall, and Miller knees the body and defends against a single-leg takedown. Hernandez goes low, and Miller grabs his neck with a guillotine choke. Hernandez stands up, backs off an elbow Miller on the dome. Miller lands a powerful low kick as he eats a right hand, and he fires a kick to the opposite leg as Hernandez’ balance is shaken up from these kicks. Miller takes a few right hands cleanly and a knee on the belly, but he keeps pushing forward throwing bombs. Miller checks a body kick and cracks Hernandez with a left hand, and Hernandez shakes it off and starts to get his jab going. Miller leads the dance with a few haymakers, and Hernandez is light on his feet with quick, straight punches. Miller blocks kicks on both sides, and he takes a one-two and whiffs on a huge left hand. Hernandez pushes forward and bullies the veteran to the wall, but Miller grits his teeth and throws bombs. Hernandez blocks a kick and sticks out a jab, and he is met with a step-in vertical elbow. Miller reaches with a right hand, and he walks face-first into an elbow. Miller lands, Hernandez responds, and Miller lashes out again. Hernandez plants the ball of his foot on Miller’s chin, but Miller does not flinch. Hernandez gets Miller’s attention in an exchange, and Miller shakes him up. Hernandez throws hands, and Miller kicks low and sweeps Hernandez to the mat. Miller works his way to take the back, and he locks down a rear-naked choke that is tight but on the chin. Miller squeezes with everything he has left, and Hernandez grits it out and survives it to turn Miller around and stand up. “The Great Ape” rains down punches right to the bitter end, and this absolute thriller is now left in the hands of the judges.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Lean picked Feb 14, 2023 (4 days before fight)
Alexander Hernandez

Angelo picks Hernandez but won't bet on him due to lack of trust. He acknowledges Hernandez's talent, speed, power, and wrestling, but notes his inconsistency and 'brain fart' moments. Angelo thinks Jim Miller will finally look old and slow, and Hernandez should win by being faster and stronger. However, he admits he'll be rooting for Miller and keeps his money in his pocket.

"Hernandez is going to be the pick but absolutely under no circumstances am I spending money on him."

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Feb 13, 2023 (5 days before fight)
Alexander Hernandez

Big Brady likes Hernandez to wrestle and grind out a decision, similar to his win over Olivier Aubin-Mercier. He notes that Miller has been controlled by wrestlers like Joe Solecki and Vince Pichel. He worries about Hernandez's cardio but thinks the path to victory is clear. He also mentions both have knockout power early, but expects a decision.

"I'm still going Hernandez I'm taking Hernandez to kind of grind this one out win a decision"

Cody Saftic Expert Hesitant picked Feb 15, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Alexander Hernandez

Cody picks Hernandez based on tape and skill, calling him a better athlete who moves better and hits harder. He notes Hernandez is confidence-driven and coming in on short notice, which might help him avoid overthinking. He says Jim Miller is a better fighter but at 39 with Lyme disease, the train will fall off eventually. He acknowledges Hernandez's cardio issues and tendency to fall apart if he doesn't finish early, but thinks the short notice and no weight cut to 145 will benefit him.

Cody says the line is no good and Hernandez is massively untrustworthy. He mentions Miller is always the dog and has been live in similar spots. He says he can't bet Miller but picks Hernandez.
"I just gotta go based on tape and skill and I would say Hernandez is just a better athlete he moves better he hits harder he is a better athletic fighter Jim Miller is a better fighter fighter but you know 39 years old Lyme disease."
CO
Connor Ruebusch Expert Confident picked Feb 16, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Jim Miller

Connor picks Miller as well, emphasizing that Hernandez's problems are mental and technical, not size-related. Miller is tough, crafty, and a harder hitter than Hernandez's recent opponents. Connor expects Hernandez to win the first round but fade, and Miller to take over in later rounds.

"I'm picking Jim Miller as well. I'm I feel very confident. He will lose the first round of this fight... But I can't trust Hernandez not to find a way out of this fight if Miller can just hang tough."
JA
Jacob Lines Expert Confident picked Feb 14, 2023 (4 days before fight)
Jim Miller

Jacob is picking Jim Miller, calling it a matchup nightmare for Hernandez. He believes Hernandez looks great early but fades when pressured, and Miller's experience and toughness will take over. Jacob notes Miller's recent wins show power and submissions, and he thinks Hernandez's weight class changes indicate desperation. He expects Miller to outwork Hernandez and possibly finish him.

"I'm taking the experience here in Jim Miller I think he outworks this kid."

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Lean picked Feb 14, 2023 (4 days before fight)
Alexander Hernandez

Hernandez has physical advantages in speed, power, and explosiveness, which should allow him to dictate the fight early. He can grind Miller against the cage or land a quick knockout. However, Miller's durability and cardio could become factors if Hernandez fades. Low confidence pick via decision.

Hernandez wins by decision
"I lean Hernandez... I'm gonna ultimately with very low confidence say that he wins this by decision."

Paul Shaughnessy Expert Hesitant picked Feb 15, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Jim Miller

Paul picks Jim Miller but is hesitant, acknowledging Hernandez could land a big bomb early. He notes Miller's last three wins are all second-round finishes and that Hernandez tends to fall apart if he doesn't finish early. He says Miller is very live here and is the best underdog on the card. However, he won't bet the moneyline because he thinks the fight has to play out a certain way for Miller to win. He prefers a sprinkle on Miller round two and live betting.

Paul sprinkles Jim Miller round two. He says he's more interested in live betting if Miller survives round one. He mentions Miller was favored against Mata and Eric Gonzalez.
"I'm gonna sprinkle the round two prop for Jim Miller and uh and be more interested in entering uh from a live market perspective because if he's living after round one it is it's Miller time."

The MMA Guru Expert Confident picked Feb 14, 2023 (4 days before fight)
Jim Miller

The MMA Guru picks Jim Miller, noting that Alexander Hernandez has only one round of fight in him and is taking this fight on short notice after a recent loss where he took heavy damage. He believes Miller's veteran experience and toughness will allow him to survive Hernandez's early onslaught and then take over, predicting a TKO in the second or third round.

TKO in the second or third round
"I want to take Jim Miller here I'm gonna take Jim Miller they've made him an underdog against Alexander Hernandez who always has one round of fight in him"
ZA
Zane Simon Expert Confident picked Feb 16, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Jim Miller

Zane picks Miller because Hernandez has fundamental issues with range and defense, and he overreacts to counter strikes. Miller is a good counter puncher and will find openings. Hernandez may win the first round, but if Miller survives, he can take over. Zane notes that Hernandez's confidence is fragile after moving back to lightweight.

Miller opened +210, now +191; Hernandez opened -250, now -241. Zane says he's surprised Miller is such an underdog and thinks even odds would be more accurate.
"I'll take Jim. Yeah, I'm gonna roll with it, too. I just her name did like it, you know, I said with the Jordan Wright situation. It's just like you see somebody in this kind of career limbo."

Daniel Levi Expert Lean picked Jun 30, 2022 (2 days before fight)
Donald Cerrone

Daniel Levi leans toward Donald Cerrone as the underdog, citing the price (+165) and the fact that Cerrone has beaten Miller before via head kick. He notes that Miller tends to slow down after the first round, and if Cerrone can weather the early storm, he can take over. Levi acknowledges that Cerrone is past his prime and has lost to lesser opponents, but he sees value in the dog price. He does not bet it himself.

Donald Cerrone

Cerrone is the better fighter with more tools, and the line is too wide. Miller is a quick starter but if he doesn't finish early, Cerrone takes over. Cerrone at 170 lbs benefits him. The host predicts Cerrone by decision, noting Miller's cardio is not as bad as some claim.

Donald Cerrone

The MMA Guru hesitantly picks Donald Cerrone as an underdog, citing the fight being at welterweight where Cerrone won't have to cut as much weight, preserving his chin and cardio. He thinks Miller's power may not translate up a division and that Cerrone can survive the first round and rally in later rounds. He calls it a 50/50 fight and predicts a 29-28 decision for Cerrone.

Jim Miller vs. Nikolas Motta

Round 1
The widest gap in Octagon experience comes in this lightweight tilt, as the most active fighter in company history in the legendary Miller (33-16, 1 NC; 22-15, 1 NC UFC) comes to blows with the debuting Motta (12-3, 0-0 UFC). Miller has fought more than twice as many times in the UFC as Motta has competed in his whole career, but the 29-year-old from Brazil is undaunted. Watching closely to see if Motta can pass this difficult test is referee Keith Peterson, and Motta shows plenty of reverence but not a lick of nonsense as he chooses not to touch gloves with the longtime vet. Miller begins with several jabs, and he chains a few together into a slapping leg kick. Miller gets off a one-two, and he swats away the quick hands coming back at him from the Brazilian. Miller gets cracked with a short combination, but he give its right back to Motta. “Iron Motta” connects with a short punch, and Miller steps in with an elbow to keep him honest. Miller slings a high kick, and Motta sticks him with a right hand that hurts Miller cut does not send him down to the mat. Motta does not capitalize on this, and he lets the vet off the hook. Motta sticks him with a jab, stunning Miller again, but Miller attacks with a leg kick on the inside. Miller blocks another power right hand so that he can kick Motta’s lead leg once more, and Motta visibly reacts from it. A kick from Miller may have glanced off the cup, but Motta signals that he can keep fighting and they don’t slow down. Miller chops down Motta’s leg again, leading Motta to stumble forward and try to find his footing. Although Miller gives chase, Motta is able to duck out of the way and recover. “A-10” charges ahead with a short salvo of long punches, and Motta escapes the brunt of the damage but cannot escape the low kick from the vet. Motta rips the body with a left, and he barely avoids a looping left hand from Miller. Miller scores a leg kick, and he gets tagged with a clean counter right, but he shows no worse for wear from it. Miller continues to sting the leg a few more times, and Motta winces from the strikes. Miller leaps forward with a superman punch, using his forward momentum to tie the newcomer up and press him tightly against the fencing. Miller uses several close clinch strikes to his advantage, including a few knees to the inner thigh, until Motta pushes off to reset. Motta zips a high kick up and wraps his foot around Miller’s guard, and the New Jersey native wears it well and continues to assault his foe’s lead leg. One more leg kick from Miller ends the round.

Sherdog Scores
Jay Pettry scores the round: 10-9 Miller
Ben Duffy scores the round: 10-9 Miller
Tyler Treese scores the round: 10-9 Miller

Round 2
When Miller reaches out with a right hand to start off the second stanza, Motta replies with a pair of punches to break it up and catch Miller standing still. Miller revs up his engine and slams his shin into the inner thigh of his opponent, and Motta hops back only to take one on the outside. Miller stands firm when Motta advances, landing a check right hook on the inside and sending the Brazilian back. Motta escapes and circles away, and Miller gives chase and scores another solid right hand when Motta tries to get strikes going over the top. “A-10” is relentless when it comes to the inside leg of his opponent, and one big kick gives Motta all sorts of problems.
Smelling blood, Miller leaps forward to blast Motta in the face with a huge right hand, and Motta’s legs give way beneath him. With Motta falling to the ground with one arm trapped beneath his body, Miller is there to maul him with a blinding barrage of punches and hammerfists. The longtime vet does not take his foot off the gas, knowing he is about to finish the job, as Peterson gives Motta every possible chance to get out of it. With nothing left to offer from Motta, Peterson steps in, and Jim “Expletive Deleted” Miller has done it again.
Not only does Miller hold the most fights in company, but he is also now the winningest fighter in UFC history alongside Donald Cerrone with 23 victories apiece.

Angelo picks Nikolas Motta despite loving Jim Miller. He notes Motta is explosive, athletic, has great power, and is patient. He believes Miller's chin and durability are declining, and Motta's striking is too slick and athletic for the aging Miller. He acknowledges Miller's ground advantage but doubts Miller can take the damage to get there.

Nikolas Motta

Cody is hesitant but leans toward Motta. He acknowledges that Jim Miller is a live underdog with excellent submission skills and sneaky power, but he is concerned about Miller's age (38) and Lyme disease, which may affect his cardio. Cody notes that Miller tends to fade in later rounds and that Motta, despite a questionable chin, has power and could finish early. He ultimately doesn't have the courage to pick Miller straight up, so he goes with Motta.

Daniel Levi Expert Confident picked Feb 17, 2022 (2 days before fight)
Nikolas Motta

Levi is confident in Motta, highlighting his brutal knockout power (devastating KOs over Joe Solecki and Cesar Balmaceda) and improved discipline. He notes that Jim Miller historically struggles past the first round, and Motta has the jiu-jitsu to survive early grappling. Levi expects Motta to weather the early storm and finish Miller in the second or third round.

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Confident picked Feb 17, 2022 (2 days before fight)
Nikolas Motta

This fight is likely to end inside the distance. Miller will look for a submission early, but if he fails, his cardio fades and Motta can knock him out. The under 2.5 rounds is a strong play regardless of who wins. Motta by KO is also a possibility, but the under is the safer bet. Miller by submission at +350 is a live dog prop.

Jim Miller

Paul picks Jim Miller as a dog, arguing that the line has moved too far in Motta's favor. He points out that Motta's takedown defense is untested and that Miller, with 39 UFC fights, has a massive experience advantage. Paul believes Miller can take Motta down and submit him, or even knock him out. He acknowledges Miller's age and potential cardio issues but thinks the value is on the veteran at +155.

Nikolas Motta

The MMA Guru picks Nikolas Motta to win by late second-round TKO. He disagrees with the public favoring Jim Miller, arguing that Motta is a better prospect with a solid chin and good technique. He notes that Motta beat Joe Solecki, who controlled Miller on the ground, and that Motta's grappling is better than previous prospects Miller has beaten. He thinks Motta's youth and durability will carry him.

Jim Miller vs. Erick Gonzalez

Round 1
East coast meets west in this lightweight clash with the widest discrepancy in Octagon experience ever. Soon-to-be 38-fight vet Miller (32-16, 1 NC; 21-15, 1 NC UFC) out of New Jersey will be introducing “Ghost Pepper” Gonzalez (14-5, 0-0 UFC) to the organization. Winless since June 2020, Miller will try to right the ship and stave off conversations about retirement for another day, and referee Mark Smith will be right there should anything go awry. Ever the sportsman, Miller offers a glove touch, and the newcomer is happy to accept. Miller comes out with a few right hands, and Gonzalez keeps his left hand outstretched to keep the vet at bay. The newcomer connects with an overhand left, and he gets the inside of his leg kicked. Miller scores a solid left hand and a head kick, and he uses the momentum to press Gonzalez into the fence. Miller gets off a knee to the body and a right hand as he stays up close, and Gonzalez torques his foe around and throws him to the mat. Gonzalez claims half guard, and Miller attacks with hacking elbows from his back. Miller closes his guard tightly, Gonzalez breaks the legs and backs away. Miller gets back to his feet and keeps his guard up, blocking a head kick that comes right at him. A spicy combination from “The Ghost Pepper” cracks Miller, and the longtime vet is hurt and dives in for a takedown try to clear his head. He lands it, and now it is the newcomer who closes his guard as Miller hacks at him. Miller is unable to keep him down for long, and Gonzalez muscles his way back up to his feet as they slug it out. Miller gets tagged from a few punches, and he fires back to rock Gonzalez with a left hand down the middle. A leg kick from Miller forces Gonzalez to take his leg back, and he times another left that staggers Gonzalez. Miller continues to find the home for his left hand, rocking the newcomer badly as he goes from a smile to a grimace when the damage is done. Miller continues to rail into his opponent, but Gonzalez ties him up to keep himself in the game. Miller throws him down, blitzes him with a left, a right and a knee, but Gonzalez survives to the bell.

Round 2
The lightweights touch gloves to start off the second round, and Gonzalez lands a front kick that connects to the jaw.
When Gonzalez throws a half-hearted reverse crescent kick, “A-10” Miller launches a missile of a left hand that instantly separates Gonzalez from his consciousness. Like a puppet that had its strings cut, Gonzalez falls lifelessly to his knees and crumbles face-first to the ground.
Any follow-up strikes are merely academic as Smith sprints towards the fallen fighter to rescue him from further harm. What a knockout from Jim “Expletive Deleted” Miller, his first since UFC 200 over five years ago, who keeps his career very much alive with a vintage performance. As he explains deftly in his post-fight interview, “old dog, new tricks, I got a knockout.”

Jim Miller

Angelo picks Jim Miller confidently, noting his veteran savvy, toughness, and superior grappling. Gonzalez is a long striker who relies on range, but Miller will close the distance, make it dirty, and take the fight to the ground where he has a huge advantage. Miller's path is clear: get in Gonzalez's face, grind him against the cage, and work for a submission or control. Angelo likes Miller at 8700 in DraftKings and the more more on monkey knife fight.

Jim Miller vs. Joe Solecki

Round 1
A chasm of experience separates these lightweights tapped to headline the prelims, as fan-favorite Miller (32-15, 1 NC; 21-14, 1 NC UFC) sets the all-time UFC appearance record at 37 by simply stepping in the cage against fellow grappler Solecki (10-2, 2-0 UFC). The Octagon ranger for this key preliminary matchup is referee Herb Dean, and we see a respectful touch of gloves to lead things off. Miller comes out first with a reaching right hand, but it is Solecki that lands first with a quick combination and a slapping leg kick. The two engage in a brief brawl in the center of the cage, and Solecki gets off another kick. Once more there is a clinch battle with a flurry of fists and feet, and Miller takes one on the chin and gets pushed into the fence. Solecki comes up short with an overhand right, but the leg kick scores again. Miller swings wildly with a pair of hooks, and Solecki steps back and takes a sweeping leg kick. Solecki gets off a one-two, and he fires a body kick as he avoids an overhand right counter. Miller comes in with a shovel uppercut, and that and a head kick get blocked. Solecki nails Miller with a right hand, and the longtime vet eats it like a grinder. Solecki again plants his foot on Miller’s torso, and Miller’s reply hits nothing but air. Miller steps in with a leg kick, and a pair of big punches miss the mark as Solecki circles out of danger. Miller wades forward to sneak in a right hand, and when Solecki aims for a takedown, Miller pushes him over and climbs into the full guard. Solecki scoots his way to the fence while Miller is trying to find some offense from on top, and Miller instead uses this angle between the floor and the fence to keep Solecki trapped. Solecki blocks strikes and cannot kick off, as Miller begins to drop down a few punches. Miller continues to grind out his foe in this position, and he lands a few body shots while Solecki holds on tight with all his might. The round ends with Miller on top.

Round 2
The New Jersey natives touch hands to clock in the second frame, and Miller rushes forward to throw hands. Miller catches Solecki with a left hand as he closes the distance, and Solecki drops down for a single leg as Miller defends it against the fence. As Solecki changes levels to take the fight all the way down, Miller cracks him with a knee but still falls to his back. Miller employs a rubber guard immediately, using his left leg to hook the shoulder for a brief spell. Solecki looks to pass guard but Miller does not allow him to do so, instead dragging his man back as Miller clings on tight. Solecki is unable to mount any offense from above, but Miller appears complacent on his back as he repositions his legs in his guard to open and close it searching for options. Solecki drops down a quartet of punches to the body, and Miller does not want to be flat on his back so he turns to his side. Miller hacks at his man with an elbow, but he is largely nullified by the younger man with top pressure. Miller gets off another elbow and is punched in the face for his effort, as Solecki tries to get off ground-and-pound but is mostly able to strike the side. Dean calls for Solecki to work after several minutes of stalemate, and the round ends in this position.

Round 3
The last round opens with a Miller leg kick, and Solecki closes the distance to aim for a takedown and get back to the position where he rode out the previous frame. Miller frantically scrambles, and even rolls when Solecki trips his leg out, but he surrenders his back in the process. Miller somersaults to pursue a leglock, and Solecki easily spins around and winds up on top in a better position than the previous frame. Solecki sits in half guard while Miller is stuck on his side, and he holds his shoulder for a potential arm-triangle choke until bailing on it to posture up. Miller once more finds himself stuck without any ability to get up, and Solecki has firmly embraced the grind as precious seconds tick off the clock. Solecki gets warned for inactivity by Dean, and he lands a few punches to the side while Miller once more twists and turns to try to free himself. Solecki pops him with a few left hands, and he drops down a couple elbows as well to stay busy. The half guard position is a successful one for Solecki, delivering sporadic ground-and-pound and trapping Miller completely. This suffocating style is taking the fight out of the veteran, who looks frustrated as he gets punched in the face every so often. Dean once more calls for Solecki to work, and Solecki tries to mount his foe but cannot get his leg free. The younger fighter keeps working with left hands to the side of Miller’s body and face, and this dreadful fight mercifully comes to a close.

Jim Miller vs. Vinc Pichel

Round 1
Competing atop the preliminary card is the most active fighter in UFC history in Miller (32-14, 1 NC; 21-13, 1 NC UFC) against “From Hell” Pichel (12-2, 5-2 UFC) in the lightweight division. Pichel made his UFC debut in 2012 and this will be his eighth fight with the promotion, while Miller will have competed 23 times in that same span when the night ends. Referee Herb Dean will keep a watchful eye on this preliminary headliner, and there is a touch of gloves before these two get down to it. The two try to find their way in, and Pichel lands first with a left hand. Miller charges back at him and catches him with a left, and nearly clips him with a knee up the middle. Pichel fires back, and lands a body kick. Miller again races towards him with a string of punches, and he ends a combination with a hard leg kick. A sharp uppercut stings Pichel, and Miller tosses a low kick that grazes the cup and halts the action briefly. Miller takes a shot to the cup as well but he fights through it as they swing for the bleachers. Miller walks him down and clinches up, landing a knee to the torso before trying to trip Pichel’s legs out. Miller commits to a single but Pichel keeps them upright, so Miller drills him in the breadbasket with a knee. Miller hacks at him with elbows and pair of knees until Pichel breaks free. Miller flips up a head kick and Pichel blocks it without countering. Miller walks him down with another head kick and a low kick, and Pichel’s hands are by his waist possibly to stop a takedown. The hand position does not help him stuff the takedown that soon follows, and Miller instantly takes Pichel’s back to get his hooks in. “From Hell” tries with all his might to lean to the fence to try to stave off the submission, and he nearly spins out but almost falls into submission danger. Pichel turns about so Miller switches to a guillotine choke, which he uses to take top position as Pichel holds on tight. Miller rolls and traps the calf of his opponent for a calf slicer, but time expires before he can secure a tap.

Round 2
They touch gloves at the start of the round, and Pichel rushes in with a head kick but Miller eats it like a sandwich and hits a takedown with relative ease. Miller works him from the top while Pichel scoots back to the fence, and Miller takes the moment to get to half guard and stand up to land some strikes. Pichel kicks off and just misses an upkick, and springs back up to mash Miller against the cage. Pichel changes levels to get Miller down, and his neck is quickly in danger for a guillotine choke. “From Hell” calmly pulls his neck free, and he keeps Miller pressed to the wall while Miller throws his legs up for some submission. Pichel wrests his arms free from what looks like a double armbar, and he steps over into half guard while Miller keeps attacking. Pichel steps over and Miller latches on to a heel hook, and Pichel turns out and nails Miller with a pair of heavy elbows to step into half guard again. Pichel sets up an arm-triangle choke and swipes at Miller’s forehead with a few elbows as he grinds him out. Pichel postures up and lands a punch, but Miller ties him up again. Pichel stays heavy and keeps Miller trapped on his back, landing sporadic punches and racking up control time. Pichel gets off a few more punches as the horn sounds to wrap up the second frame.

Round 3
The two lightweights greet with one final glove touch, and Pichel rings home a right hand and a body kick before setting up a takedown. Miller tries to defend against it, but he falls to his back as Pichel fishes for a kimura. Miller yanks his arm free, but in the process, Pichel advances to side control and drops down a few elbows as Miller attempts to roll for a leg lock. Pichel steps out of it and circles around to take Miller’s back, landing a few punches and securing his hooks. Miller twists and turns as Pichel hunts for a rear-naked choke, and “A-10” powers his way up and around to go after a guillotine choke while Pichel is on his knees. A wild scramble puts Pichel on his back as Miller starts to put a few punches together. Pichel walks up the cage wall to his knee, and Miller frees a trapped leg to take Pichel’s back and drags him down. Pichel rolls along with Miller in that instance to buck Miller off, and Pichel now has Miller’s back. The exciting grappling continues as they both keep scrambling and get back to their feet. Miller presses him to the fence as he looks for a single, allowing Pichel to knee him in the chin. Another knee from Pichel backs Miller out of the clinch, and Pichel walks forward to land some punches before changing levels for a single leg takedown. Miller stuffs it and gets kneed several times. When they separate, Pichel boots him in the head, and Miller shakes off the cobwebs, pulls guard and cinches up a guillotine choke. It is incredibly tight, and Pichel is in a bad way, but he grits it out and pulls his neck out of the rough position. Pichel lands a few hard shots on top to bloody up his opponent, and the final horn concludes this exciting lightweight scrap.

Jim Miller

Daniel Levi leans toward Jim Miller. He thinks Miller is the better fighter and can win a decision if he doesn't empty his gas tank in the first round. He notes that Pichel is a point fighter who doesn't push a high pace, which may not gas Miller out. However, he acknowledges Pichel's toughness and that Miller historically loses when fights go past the first round.

Jim Miller

Miller has the jiu-jitsu advantage and can catch Pichel from the bottom or hurt him on the feet. Pichel has ring rust and Miller is active. The fight likely ends inside the distance, with Miller by submission or Pichel by TKO. Miller's submission threat is real, and he has power in his hands. Confidence is low, but Miller gets the nod.

Jim Miller vs. Roosevelt Roberts

Round 1
We commence the main card with a 160-pound scheduled catchweight contest between one of the most active fighters in UFC history in Miller (31-14, 1 NC; 20-13, 1 NC UFC) against the young, hungry Roberts (10-1, 4-1 UFC). In the cage, referee Herb Dean has been tapped to oversee this battle, and the two men touch ‘em up before they start trading. Roberts starts out with a front kick, and Miller grabs it and chases him down in an instant. Getting into full guard, Miller starts to work the body as Roberts throws his legs up. Roberts tries to scramble, and “A-10” dives down to set up a guillotine choke. Roberts stays patient and slowly works his neck out, but in the meantime, Miller advances to half guard.
Roberts explodes to his knees while Miller tries to stay on top, and when Roberts tries to get on top, Miller rolls for an armbar. The arm is tight and Roberts is doomed. There is no escape, and "The Predator" verbally taps out.
That is UFC win number 21 for Miller, who is now two shy of the record held by Donald Cerrone.

Jim Miller vs. Scott Holtzman

Round 1
Up next is a man in Miller (31-13, 1 NC; 20-12, 1 NC UFC) who sports nearly three times the MMA experience as his opponent, “Hot Sauce” Holtzman (13-3, 6-3 UFC), at lightweight. Miller will tie Donald Cerrone with the most appearances in UFC history (34) by competing tonight, although we do not expect that record to hold for long by either man. The two engage in dueling 1980’s walkouts, as Holtzman uses “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi, while Miller counters with “Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy. Referee Robert Romero may not want to admit it, but he enjoyed the walkout music as much as everyone else did. Holtzman opens up with pawing jabs to find his range, and Miller is the first to commit with a strike by missing with a long left hand. Miller kicks the leg out from beneath “Hot Sauce,” but Holtzman springs back to his feet without issue. Holtzman throws a low kick, and lazily flicks out a right front kick that misses, so Miller times a counter left hand and nearly kicks the leg out again. Miller avoids a looping right hand with another quick counter left. Miller backs up, and then lands a heavy body kick before switching to the other side with a powerful left hook. Miller targets that lead leg again with a kick, and Holtzman responds with a front kick that falls short of the target. Holtzman feints and fakes his way in, but Miller does not bite on those and times a knee up the middle and a straight left. Holtzman crowds Miller against the cage, but “A-10” throws a high kick and then crashes forward to consider a takedown. Holtzman spins him off and pushes Miller against the fence, so Miller lifts up a quick knee. Miller breaks free and lands a left, so the two trade punches. Holtzman stings Miller with a right, so Miller replies in kind. As Miller charges forward, Holtzman tags Miller with a right, and then lands another. One of the punches in the series from Holtzman has opened up the nose of Miller, so Miller rushes forward with an uppercut that just misses the mark. Holtzman wings a right hand, and as he misses, Miller comes right back at him. Miller cracks Holtzman with a left hand that wobbles the legs of the man from Tennessee, but he is quick to get his bearings as he avoids a superman punch coming his way. This close round ends.

Round 2
This is the first time Miller has seen a second round in quite some time, and it begins furiously, as both land on one another heavily. Holtzman lands a leg kick, and initiates the clinch where he ties Miller up against the fence. Miller eats an elbow, and tries to set up a Thai clinch but instead fires an elbow back at him. Holtzman whiffs with an uppercut, and Miller is fast on the counter. Holtzman swings with a spinning elbow, and Miller ducks and immediately pursues the back of his opponent. Holtzman thwarts a takedown attempt and pushes free from a potentially dangerous position, and starts loading up on shots. Miller takes several punches and is hurt and bloodied up. Miller, ever the action fighter, throws right back and lands harshly. Miller fires a head kick that is blocked, and as he tries to swing for the fences, Holtzman races forward to clinch up. Holtzman trips the legs out and gets Miller down in full guard. Miller’s corner calls for Mission Control, and Miller obliges, lifting his leg to tie up Holtzman as his corner calls for other moves from the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu repertoire. Briefly flirting with an omoplata, Holtzman avoids the maneuver and stands back up before dropping back down with some heavy elbows. Miller avoids the brunt of the damage but still absorbs some powerful strikes as he tries to kick off and get free. The round ends with Holtzman standing back up again.

Round 3
A bloody Miller walks forward and lands a solid left, but Holtzman replies with a stiff right that snaps the head back of the longtime vet. Holtzman splits the guard with an uppercut, and Miller tries to counter and nearly falls over. Miller loads up with a pair of left hands, and Holtzman keeps moving to avoid most of them flush. Miller connects with one and stands up Holtzman, and “Hot Sauce” fires back with a solid right as he presses Miller against the fence. Miller circles out and the two start trading, but Holtzman is landing more effectively as Miller’s movement appears to be somewhat compromised. Holtzman lands a stern right hand, and avoids a huge looping shot from Miller as he clinches up again. Holtzman brings up a few knees to the sternum, and fires an elbow and a few quick punches to the body. Miller gets free after eating some serious shots, and kicks the leg out from beneath Holtzman again. Miller is unable to capitalize on it, and Holtzman begins to target the head and body of his opponent with some vicious punches. Miller throws back, but his counters are increasingly labored and Holtzman is able to evade them in time. Holtzman closes the distance to hold Miller against the cage wall, and after a brief clinch period, Miller shoves him away with around 30 seconds left. With reckless abandon, Miller throws wild punches, and Holtzman follows with some of his own. Holtzman leaps in the air with a knee, tries to spin with an elbow, and Miller aims a head kick back at his direction. The two warriors trade until the bitter end, and then raise their arms in victory after hard-fought battle.

Jim Miller vs. Clay Guida

Round 1
A pair of grizzled veterans with a significant string of statistical similarities is set to begin, as Miller (30-13, 1 NC; 19-12, 1 NC UFC) takes on Guida (35-18, 15-12 UFC) at lightweight. The referee in charge is Herb Dean, and the crowd appears fired up for this fight. Miller takes the center of the cage while Guida circles around him throwing jabs. Guida cracks Miller with a right hand and rocks him, and Miller returns fire with one that hurts Guida right back.
Miller jumps for a guillotine choke and cinches it up tight. Guida refuses to tap and goes out, so Dean tests Guida's hand only to discover Guida is unconscious and stops the fight.
It's a crazy exchange leading to a crazy stoppage, and we have our third technical submission of the night. Welcome to the 20-win club, Jim Miller.

Jim Miller vs. Alex White

Round 1
The southpaws square off in the center of the cage, with White landing an early left hand and Miller connecting with a few hard leg kicks. Miller comes over the top with a straight left of his own, then lands another moments later that sends White staggering backward. Miller runs White to the floor, but instead of trying to pound out his dazed opponent,
the New Jersey native wraps up White's neck and forces a near-instant tap with a rear-naked choke.
Jim Miller produces the evening's first finish and snaps a four-fight losing streak with his first submission win since 2014.

Dan Hooker vs. Jim Miller

Round 1
Miller appears to take a poke in his left eye during an early exchange, but he shakes off referee Gary Copeland when the ref asks if he's OK. A left hand from Miller seems to get the attention of the 6-foot-tall Hooker, who towers over the New Jerseyan as they circle in the opening minute. A kick from Hooker backs up Miller to the fence, but the wrestler turns the tables when he shoots and drives Hooker to the ground near the fence. Hooker powers back to his feet midway through the round, now feeds Miller a knee and a standing elbow strike. Hooker counters a slow hook from Miller with a crisp right straight, then
lays waste to the veteran with a brutal knee to the chin. Miller collapses to his back, eyes rolling around, and Hooker drops a bonus right hand on the chin of his dazed opponent
before he's pulled away by referee Copeland.

Jim Miller vs. Francisco Trinaldo

Round 1
Trinaldo eats a right hand from Miller in order to give a harder right hook back to the New Jerseyan, and suddenly Miller is on his back foot with his back near the fence. Miller catches a kick from "Massaranduba" and trips him to the ground, but Trinaldo comes out on top in the scramble and now sets up in Miller's full guard. Trinaldo stands over Miller, who's prone at the base of the fence, and now the Brazilian striker allows Miller back to his feet. Halfway through the round, Miller explodes into a double-leg and plows Trinaldo to the ground. Trinaldo wraps up tight on the bottom, looking for a stand-up command from referee Osiris Maia, but Miller stays just busy enough to keep the fight on the floor. The ref brings the fighters back to their feet with 15 seconds on the clock, just long enough for Trinaldo to graze Miller's jaw with a jump knee.

Round 2
Both southpaws connect with left hands in the first 30 seconds of the round, but the punches of "Massaranduba" look to have a little more force behind them. Trinaldo blocks a takedown attempt and whips back at Miller with a heavy left hand over the top. Miller is finding some success with leg kick-left hand combinations toward the middle of the round, but now Trinaldo begins to mix up his attacks with heavy body blows. Trinaldo blocks a shot from Miller and reverses for a takedown of his own, but Miller grabs a guillotine as he drops to guard. Trinaldo quickly steps over to half guard, then works his head loose from the headlock. With one minute left, Trinaldo works from Miller's half guard, posturing up with several heavy left hands for the American. Miller shrimps underneath with a deep half guard to ride out the final seconds of the round.

Round 3
Miller comes out in orthodox stance for the final round, but it doesn't seem to matter to Trinaldo, who continues to rip left hands over the top. Miller gets caught leaning in for a shot and eats a jump knee from Trinaldo, who keeps the grappler on his knees for a few seconds. Miller climbs back to his feet and is greeted by a malicious left hand to the breadbasket. Trinaldo keeps going to the liver with his left hand, and Miller has dropped his right arm to protect his body. Trinaldo is marching on Miller with impunity now, going straight through Miller's occasional punches to land heavier blows of his own. Miller tries to tie up midway through the round and gets spun around, his back pinned to the wall by "Massaranduba" with an underhook. The lightweights separate with two minutes remaining, circling one another for 30 seconds before Trinaldo catches a kick and trips Miller to the canvas. Trinaldo makes things uncomfortable for Miller with a can opener and short, stapling elbows to the face; Miller, meanwhile, tries to isolate an arm, but is unable to do so as Trinaldo mashes him from top position until the final horn.

Jim Miller vs. Anthony Pettis

Round 1
Miller strikes first and hard, landing a left cross over a Pettis low kick, rocking the former UFC lightweight champ to his heels. Pettis advances and leaps into Miller's ribs with a knee, but it doesn't go further than that. Both men are southpaw less than 60 seconds into the bout. Head kick from Pettis is blocked, but he returns with a jab-right body kick from orthodox stance that lands clean. Inside low kick from Miller stumbles Pettis a bit, though “Showtime” mostly blocks it, then returns with a body kick. Pettis is the party moving forward, but he's pensive and upright, gently feinting, trying to make Miller expose himself. Another right head kick from Pettis is partially blocked, but a lancing right hand puts Miller back to the cage. Pettis unloads with both hands, trying to sneak straights and hooks around the New Jersey native's guard. Less than two minutes to go, but Pettis is starting to land and land hard. Two more clean right body kicks land on a retreating Miller, then Miller walks into a spinning back fist, eating Pettis' elbow stepping in. Pettis shuffling forward, hands down, playing with his shorts and taunting Miller a bit. Right-hand counter registers for Pettis, but Miller does return fire a right hook downstairs, then to the chin. It's Miller who closes the round on a high note, clocking Pettis with an overhand left.

Round 2
Miller is chasing Pettis, who naturally, is all to happy to counter. Pettis keeps his kicking output up, and cracks Miller with a nice right roundhouse kick to the forehead that appears to slash Miller open. Next time “Showtime” kicks low, Miller catches it and kicks his plant leg out, landing on top and looking to pound. Miller is definitely bleeding heavy from the forehead cut though, keeping his head down as he ground-and-pounds Pettis, pouring blood onto his chest. When Miller looks to stand and swing down on Pettis, Pettis scrambles to his knees, but Miller is all over him, taking his back. Unfortunately for Miller, Pettis' torso is lathered and lubricated in his own blood, allowing him to spin into top control with just over two minutes to go in the round. Pettis dilligently pounds away and when Miller looks for a triangle attempt, he passes underneath and goes to side control. Miller gets sick of playing bottom and tries to explode up, but nearly gives his back up in the process. Miller stands, but before the horn, the Milwaukee native smoothly hooks his inside leg from the clinch and reaps him down to the mat

Round 3
Patient aggression from Pettis in the final round, slowly shuffling toward Miller, using his jab defensively and his right body kick to do damage. Left hook-right head kick-right hook touches Miller, then a moment later, another clean right head kick. Miller throws a one-two-low kick but Pettis thwarts the punch with a counter jab, then a right body kick. “Showtime” runs Miller into the fence, looking for a half-hearted double, but mostly looking to slow the fight down and take a breather. Miller frees himself, touching Pettis with an overhand on the break. The 10-second clapper sounds, instigating Miller to rush Pettis, who lands a banana kick, eats a left from Miller, then ends the bout with a flying head kick which is mostly blocked.

Dustin Poirier vs. Jim Miller

Round 1
Miller backs up Poirier with a leg kick-hook combination during a tense opening minute to this lightweight affair. Poirier is scoring with leg kicks, too, and now doubles up his jab in Miller's face. Poirier ducks a left, comes back up and hits Miller with a counter left hook. Miller shoots for the first time and gets stood up against the fence by Poirier, who lands knees to the body in the clinch. Poirier breaks away from the clinch with an uppercut-right hook that leaves Miller blinking. Miller catches a low kick and fires a counter left down the center, forcing Poirier to backpedal. Miller walks him backward to the fence with a body punch, but Poirier pushes back with a stiff jab. Now it's Poirier catching a kick and tripping Miller to the ground, but Miller springs back up, drives on Poirier's legs and takes him down in return. Miller immediately transitions on to Poirier's back and sinks in both hooks, now goes working for a rear-naked choke with 30 seconds left. Poirier spins around and takes top position, then slings big punches as Miller powers back to his feet. It's a firefight in the pocket for the final 10 seconds, with Poirier appearing to land the cleaner shots.

Round 2
Miller twice nearly takes out the lead leg of Poirier with kicks in the first minute of round two. From his back foot, Miller finds his range with a few hard counters on the incoming Poirier. The Louisiana native sticks a hard jab, then swats Miller with a few harder punches, and now Miller goes shooting for a takedown. Poirier shoves him away, backs up a few steps and attacks with more punches. Miller is having a hard time getting his back off the fence as Poirier keeps the pressure on, now two minutes into the round. Poirier starts slinging heavy punches in close quarters, and while Miller is swinging back with counters, "The Diamond" is landing the cleaner strikes in each exchange. Miller digs in with a hard right hand to the body, now a left kick to Poirier's ribs. Poirier keeps coming, slamming Miller with a heavy left hand in the middle of a five-punch combination. The bloodied Miller shoots for a takedown, winds up pushing Poirier against the wall, while Poirier lands elbows to the side of the head as he defends. Poirier reverses the position and hits a takedown with 65 seconds left in the frame. Poirier backs up and allows Miller to stand; both men swing big punches, but neither is landing many clean strikes here. They trade knees to the body in the clinch, and a long right hand from Poirier backs up Miller at the horn.

Round 3
Miller continues to land solid leg kicks at the start of the round, and after nearly going down a few times, Poirier's right leg finally buckles. Poirier gets up before Miller can capitalize, but "The Diamond" is switching between stances now, clearly wary of Miller's low kicks. Miller winds up for a big kick, but this one is checked by Poirier, and now Poirier closes the distance to back up Miller to the wall. Poirier catches a kick and trips Miller to the ground at the foot of the fence. Poirier comes down to kneel in Miller's guard; Miller tries rubber guard, then switches to butterfly, finally sitting up against the cage to attack Poirier's neck. Poirier pops his head free, fending off a further triangle attempt from Miller as they're jammed up against the fence. Down to the final 90 seconds now, Miller posts and powers back to his feet, then drives forward on a single-leg to put Poirier's back against the fence. Poirier denies the shot, switches to a single of his own and plants Miller back on the mat with about 30 seconds left. Miller throws up a kimura from the bottom but can't wrench Poirier's arm free before time expires.

Jim Miller vs. Thiago Alves

Round 1
Miller walks forward throwing punches and has his head pulled down for a knee. The New Jerseyan starts finding his mark with punches shortly afterward, then catches a kick on the shoulder and uses it to run Alves to the floor. Alves scoots backward to the fence, Miller in his half guard. Miller catches Alves trying to stand and tries to take the Brazilian’s back, but he’s prevented by the fence. Alves whips around and quickly scrambles to his feet, and the fighters split with 80 seconds on the clock. Alves goes to the body with a right kick, answered in kind by Miller on the left side. Miller plunges down the center with a straight left, then denies Alves’ attempt at a Thai plum by running him to the wall. Alves gets the last word with a straight right hand.

Round 2
The fighters keep their distance through the first minute of round two. Alves scores with a few leg kicks as he works from the center of the cage, working Miller around the outside. Miller shoots for a long single-leg, sprawled on by Alves, who works back to his feet with just over three minutes left. Miller shoots again and completes the takedown this time, quickly passing to half guard and working toward side control. Miller looks like he’s framing up an arm-triangle choke, but he switches to a guillotine setup as Alves begins to work his way up the fence. Alves slips free and marches forward on Miller with one minute left, hitting the local favorite with a kick to the body. Miller gets hold of a leg but can’t complete the takedown this time. Alves marches forward again and walks into a short standing elbow, then a right hand. Miller eats a shot, too, and returns to his corner with a bloody nose and a small cut near his left eye.

Round 3
Alves looks to be gaining some steam as he presses forward on Miller in the opening minute of the final round, stringing together a few punches and low kicks. His momentum is halted, however, when Miller times a kick and shoots forward, plowing Alves to the canvas in the center of the cage. Miller sits up in Alves’ half guard and works to advance while Alves tries to stand. Halfway through the round, Alves powers back to his feet, thwarting Miller’s attempted back-take in the process. Miller catches Alves coming in and hits the Brazilian with a hard left kick to the ribs, then a straight left hand. Alves gets in one kick of his own before Miller shoots and floors him with yet another takedown. Straight to half guard goes Miller, now with 90 seconds on the clock. Alves rolls to his knees, then onto his back again when Miller tries to take the back. Miller stands and grabs a guillotine, then drops to guard, but he quickly flips back to top position when Alves pops his head free. The clock is ticking down with Miller in half guard, now north-south position as Alves kneels. Miller tries the guillotine again and winds up on his back with Alves dropping punches for the final 20 seconds.

Takanori Gomi vs. Jim Miller

Round 1
The southpaws parry punches to start, and it’s Miller who lands cleanly with a plunging left down the middle. Gomi drops to his knees, tries to turn and scramble back to his feet, but before he’s able, Miller jumps on his back. Miller takes a moment to secure back-mount with a body triangle and then begins fishing for a rear-naked choke with 3:30 left in the opening round. Gomi uses two-on-one hand defense to fight off the choke attempt, so Miller gives it up and begins bombing with punches. He flattens out the belly-down Gomi and keeps blasting away with both hands; Gomi is just covering up, not fighting back, so referee Mark Smith steps in to stop the fight.

Jim Miller vs. Diego Sanchez

Round 1
Sanchez charges out of the gate and tries to put pressure on Miller, who stays on his back foot and catches the “Nightmare” with a counter uppercut in one exchange. Miller switches between stances in the opening 90 seconds but lands his most effective punches from southpaw, tagging Sanchez with a pair of hard, straight lefts. Now it’s Miller upping his aggression, backing Sanchez toward the fence with kicks and then delivering a knee. Midway through the round, Sanchez shoots in behind a punch and double-legs Miller to the ground at the base of the fence. Miller wraps up tight with closed guard, then switches to rubber guard as Sanchez picks away with left hands to the ribs from the stalemate position. Sanchez stands up, looking to reposition on top with one minute remaining, and he stuffs down Miller’s legs when the New Jerseyan throws them up in search of an armbar. Miller soon pulls Sanchez back into guard, but it doesn’t last long, and Sanchez drops a couple hard punches on Miller’s face when he has the room. Sanchez finishes the round strong, dropping some hard elbows on Miller in the final 20 seconds.

Round 2
Miller moves around the edge of the cage while Sanchez stands his ground in the center, inviting Miller’s offense. Sanchez gets tired of waiting and lunges forward to strike, but he’s picked off by a Miller left hook. Miller thumps the body of Sanchez with a left kick, only to have it caught and converted into another Sanchez takedown. This time, Miller is able to post and stand with relative ease, and now the lightweights are back to trading in the center of the cage with 2:30 on the clock. Miller lands a long left hand, a body kick, but he gets his head snapped back by a Sanchez right straight during his next kick attempt. The fighters both change levels at the same time and appear to clash heads, and an awkward bit of stumbling leads to a brief clinch on the fence. Back to the center they go with a minute remaining. Sanchez shoots on Miller’s legs and gets caught in a front headlock, which Miller uses to land a few quick knees. They separate and Sanchez shoots again, and this time Miller spins around to take his back in the scramble, but time expires soon after.

Round 3
Miller goes back to circling the outside, touches Sanchez with a nice jab but takes a right hand in the next exchange. Sanchez goes looking for a single-leg takedown but Miller keeps his balance and hops free of the attempt. Sanchez sticks a jab, waits for Miller to throw a low kick and counters with another stiff right hand upstairs. Still holding the center of the cage, Sanchez ducks under a Miller left hand and gives him a punch on the body as they separate. With just under half a round remaining, Miller scores with a nice leg kick, then the lightweights get into a close-quarters exchange in which both seem to land. Miller drives on Sanchez’s legs inside the two-minute warning, but Sanchez evades the takedown. Now it’s Sanchez looking to bring the fight to the ground, but he’s stuffed. Miller is wearing the worst of the damage with a red face and bloody nose, and now Sanchez adds another right hook to his face. Sanchez denies another takedown attempt, now inside the final minute. Miller charges forward with reaching punches which Sanchez ducks underneath. Sanchez wraps up Miller’s legs for a takedown, but Miller pops right back to his feet. Sanchez gets the final word in the waning seconds of the bout with a few good right hands up top.

Jim Miller vs. Michael Chiesa

Round 1
Chiesa grazes with a left hook to the temple, but Miller tags him back with a straight left in the next exchange. Chiesa opts to tie up along the fence, grabs a bodylock and trips Miller to the ground with ease. Passing to half guard on Miller’s left side, Chiesa keeps tight as he works to advance, making things uncomfortable for Miller with grinding forearms along the way. Chiesa postures up and drops a right hand on Miller’s face, then stands over the New Jerseyan and comes back to the mat with an axe kick to the midsection. Miller gets hold of Chiesa’s leg and rolls for a kneebar, then uses the leg to sweep. Chiesa throws up a triangle from the bottom, can’t get it but manages to regain full guard. Chiesa tries to roll free but gets caught on his knees, and Miller wastes no time jumping on his opponent’s back. Miller secures back-mount with a body triangle as they hit the final 90 seconds of the opening round. Chiesa fends off Miller’s rear-naked choke attempts for the last minute, keeping his hands high even as Miller thumps his ribs with right hands.

Round 2
Chiesa misses with an overhand right and takes a left hook from Miller on the counter, then another a few seconds later. Miller connects with another pair of punches before Chiesa drops levels and plants the veteran on his back. Without much space to work in Miller’s closed guard, Chiesa tries to posture up but still can’t find any space. Miller, meanwhile, lands a slashing elbow from the bottom and then throws up his legs to threaten with a triangle. Chiesa shucks the legs and stands, then gets a warning for grabbing the fence as he tries to improve his position. “Maverick” comes back down to the ground and is greeted by a kneebar attempt from Miller, who switches to a heel hook as Chiesa rolls to the middle of the cage and loosens the grip. Miller is still clinging to the leg when Chiesa stuns him with a few right hands to Miller’s unprotected face. Chiesa yanks the leg free, hits Miller a few more times and then passes to full mount. Miller gives up his back and leaves his neck open for a rear-naked choke, which Chiesa locks up without haste to fore the submission.

Danny Castillo vs. Jim Miller

Round 1
Miller walks Castillo toward the fence with leg kicks, then catches a kick from the Team Alpha Male product and runs him to the ground. Thirty seconds into the fight, Miller works from Castillo’s half guard, going heavy as Castillo tries to use an elevator sweep. Miller passes to full mount, looks like he’ll go for an armbar, then gets heavy again and secures the position with knees on the ground. Castillo tries to bump and escape, nearly gets caught in a triangle as he rolls to his knees, then slips out of a reverse triangle and rushes forward to take top position. Miller puts him in closed guard, then creeps his legs up Castillo’s body with two minutes left in the round. Miller goes back to closed guard and hits Castillo with an elbow to the face along the way. Miller spins and grabs for a heel hook, forcing Castillo to bail, and now the lightweights are back on their feet with one minute to go. There’s not much clean offense between them as the round ends, but a leaping knee from Castillo appears to graze Miller’s cup as the round ends.

Jim Miller vs. Beneil Dariush

Round 1
Dariush opens with leg kicks, stepping backward and flicking out long jabs to keep the local New Jersey favorite out of range. Miller covers up under a combination and then comes back to slug Dariush with a hard left hook in the pocket. Dariush goes to his back foot again, this time getting a little more power on his low kicks. Miller rushes him against the cage, but Dariush grabs the Thai plum and sends a hard knee up the center. Dariush changes levels to try a single-leg, but Miller grabs hold of a kimura and rolls the Kings MMA fighter over the top. Miller switches to a triangle, then tries to work a triangle-armbar, but Dariush is already slipping out. Dariush sets up on top in Miller’s half guard, working to pass while framing up an arm-triangle choke on the left side. Miller is hip to it and keeps elevating Dariush with butterfly guard, then pulls rubber guard to try and cinch a triangle. Dariush pulls out and stands, catches Miller driving forward and finishes the round socking Miller in the side of the head with left hands.

Round 2
Dariush closes the gap and goes for a takedown against the fence, spinning Miller off the cage to drag him to the ground. Dariush is looking for the arm-triangle again, but his commitment to the choke leaves him open to a butterfly sweep. Miller grabs a guillotine and pulls guard to try and finish; Dariush pulls his head out and slips straight into full mount, then attaches himself to Miller’s back as the Jersey fighter rolls over. Dariush secures back-mount with a body triangle and tries to snake his left arm beneath Miller’s chin. Miller rolls over, leaving Dariush back in full mount. After another brief arm-triangle setup, Dariush postures up with elbows and punches which force Miller to give up his back. Dariush slaps on what looks like a deep RNC, but Miller peels his hands away and continues to fight off the choke in the final minute of the round.

Dariush wrangles Miller against the cage with an underhook and trips him to the ground, then works to advance to mount. Miller stays busy underneath, keeping Dariush in half guard and pushing on his face to keep Dariush out of arm-triangle position. Dariush has the choke set up but he’s on the wrong side, so he releases and moves to north-south position. Miller goes to his knees, then rolls through to put Dariush back in half guard. With 1:40 on the clock, Dariush passes to mount, then to back-mount when Miller turns over. Miller stands up and rolls through but cannot shake Dariush off his back, held in place as he is with a body triangle. Dariush is threatening with a rear-naked choke once again in the closing minute. Miller stands up and dives forward, trying to spike Dariush’s head on the mat as time runs out, though it looks like Miller knocked his own head instead.

Donald Cerrone vs. Jim Miller
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Miller (-200), Cerrone (+170)

Round 1
A rematch nearly eight years in the making rears its head in the welterweight division, as two beloved names in the sport in Cerrone (36-16, 2 NC; 23-13, 1 NC UFC) and Miller (34-16, 1 NC; 23-15, 1 NC UFC) run it back. Their first fight in 2014 resulted in a knockout for Cerrone, but momentum is firmly on the side of Miller, who celebrates a win streak compared to Cerrone’s six-bout winless stretch. The victor in this tilt will claim the highest win total in UFC history, as both men are tied for the top spot with 23. Referee Mark Smith is quietly amped up for what could be a fun battle for as long as it lasts, and these two fighters very much enjoy one another’s company but are intense and quickly touch gloves to begin the fight. Cerrone reaches out with jabs, and he chains one with a right hand over the top. “Cowboy” quickly kicks at the lead leg, and he looses a front kick at the body with his toes stretched out. Miller responds with a low kick, and Miller blitzes him with three punches that collide with the guard. Cerrone kicks the calf hard, and a front kick to follow gets swatted down. Miller reaches out with a right hand that brushes the beard, and his left hand follow-up misses the mark. Cerrone whiffs on a low kick, and Miller lifts his leg up and reaches out to tag Cerrone with a couple punches. Miller sits down on a body kick, and Cerrone answers him with one immediately thereafter. Cerrone continues his work on the leg, and he answers a Miller blitz to aim a high knee up the middle. Miller kicks the body, and Cerrone intercepts him coming forward with a knee and a straight right. The veterans measure one another until Miller reaches out with a front kick, and Cerrone unloads a body kick that gets caught. Cerrone falls to his back, and he starts to set up an armbar. Miller wriggles himself free to claim top position, and Cerrone tightens his guard around Miller’s waist. Miller lands a few punches and a slashing elbow, and he doubles up on the elbow to decent effect. Cerrone keeps a very high guard to either throw up a submission off his back or kick Miller off, and Miller leaps over to mount. Cerrone spins him all the way over to his back, and he deftly fights off a triangle setup from “A-10” to get comfortable on top. Miller wings an elbow off his back as he hangs on to Cerrone, and he reaches his legs up but there is no triangle to be found. “Cowboy” falls into an armbar trap, but he quickly pulls his limb out. Cerrone hits his back, and he snatches up an ankle and twists it. Miller shakes his head, indicating that Cerrone does not have it, and the horn sounds to end the fun round.

Round 2
The second round begins with tense exchanges from both men, as they cannot find their ranges and they work their ways forward and clock one another with solid right hands. Neither man appears compromised from the exchange, and they score leg kicks one after the other. Cerrone comes up short with a front kick, and he whips a head kick that slams straight into Miller’s dome.
As the kick lands, Miller crashes forward to plow Cerrone over, and he changes things up to snatch up Cerrone’s neck and snags a guillotine choke. When Miller pulls guard to complete it, Cerrone turns and twists with all his might, and his head turns a bright shade of red as he is not getting out of it. “Cowboy” considers going out on his shield, but with his fingertips, he taps out on Miller’s glove.
Smith is paying close attention and he sees the tapout and steps in. Miller has exacted revenge on his foe, and in his post-fight interview, he tells commentator Joe Rogan that Cerrone has some business to attend to. Rogan asks “are we doing this, Donald” and Cerrone nods. Stripping the tape off his gloves, placing his hat in the center of the Octagon and his gloves in the hat, he signals his retirement from the sport. This spells the end to a legendary career, one that spans nearly thrilling 15 years in the WEC and UFC alone. In victory, Miller is now the winningest fighter in UFC history, and he still has his sights set on an appearance at UFC 300 in a few years.

Jim Miller vs. Yancy Medeiros

Round 1
Medeiros puts a front kick in southpaw Miller’s breadbasket and then throws a leg kick which is checked. Another teep kick finds Miller’s chest, and then another which is followed by a jab. The New Jerseyan obliges, clinching Medeiros against the fence with an underhook and then tripping him to the mat. As Medeiros tries to stand, Miller drops to guard with a tight arm-in guillotine. Jim Miller vs. Fabricio Camoes

Round 1
Camoes opens up with a kick inside the lead leg of southpaw Miller, then presses in to clinch with Miller on the fence. Miller greets him with a knee to the body and stuffs the takedown attempt, shoving Camoes away to resume their tentative striking in the center of the cage. Miller blocks a high kick but eats a hook, then lands a head-down left over the top. Miller presses forward and is greeted by a flurry of punches and a head kick from Camoes, but Miller catches the kick and uses it to pull Camoes to the canvas. Camoes scrambles up and lands a takedown of his own, winding up in Miller’s closed guard. Miller goes to rubber guard, then isolates Camoes’ right arm and swings his legs around to extend the limb. Camoes slows down and stands still, postured up and trying to extract his arm. Miller has it stretched out with both arms wrapped around Camoes’ leg, and Camoes is forced to tap out.

Pat Healy vs. Jim Miller
Round 1
The southpaw Miller pops Miller with a quick jab, a left to the body a moment later and then a chopping leg kick. Healy keeps coming forward, ducking a punch to tie up and landing a short elbow as they break. Miller lands a good leg kick and tries to wrap up, gets pushed off. The next clinch has Miller throwing Healy to the ground, then setting up in Healy’s active guard to elbow the body. Healy throws his legs up for an armbar, but he’s on the wrong side and Miller slips out. Healy kneels and Miller goes for a crucifix. When he can’t roll Healy, Miller switches to an armbar on the left arm. Miller trying to go belly-down on the armbar, can’t pry the limb loose and Healy slips out. Back on the feet, Healy lands a knee to the body and takes a leg kick in return before hitting a double-leg on the fence. Miller swings his legs up, maybe thinking armbar, but it’ll be tough with the fence in the position it is. Healy shucks the legs and punches away with rights as Miller kneels. Miller works back up and is immediately slammed down by Healy, who takes Miller’s back with 20 seconds left. Miller spins around to drop an elbow on Healy, then bloodies up the Strikeforce vet with a series of heavy punches in the final seconds.

The lightweights clinch on the fence early in round two, Miller being tripped to the ground and then popping back up to push Healy against the cage. Good elbow from Healy as they split and he moves forward. Miller puts Healy on the fence and Healy scores with a couple uppercuts inside, then a knee. Miller hits an elbow, but Healy goes underneath and hits a double-leg. Healy stands over Miller for a moment, controlling the legs, then comes down with a right hand to the body. Miller is looking for a triangle or an armbar, so Healy backs out and stacks up. Healy comes down with a hard right and an elbow, then keeps the right hands coming. Some big shots are getting through for Healy as Miller is unable to escape from the foot of the cage. Still nearly two minutes left when Healy hops on Miller’s back and sinks in one hook. Healy softens him up with punches and loops his arm under Miller’s throat for an RNC attempt. Miller scrapes him off with the help of the cage, then pushes Healy out of full mount. Miller looks for a headlock in the final scramble of the round, but Healy gets to his feet and blasts Miller with a hard knee to the gut before the horn.

A headlock from Healy keeps Miller down, and Healy keeps busy with elbows before being put back in guard at the midway point of the final frame. Miller tries rubber guard, broken up by more elbows and punches from Healy. One hook in on the bloodied Miller, Healy throws punches until he’s able to roll Miller onto his back. There, Healy sinks in the rear-naked choke and squeezes until Miller goes unconscious. Referee Herb Dean recognizes that Miller is out cold and waves it off at 4:02 of round three.

Jim Miller vs. Joe Lauzon
Round 1
Lauzon takes the outside while the southpaw Miller presses out from the center. An inside leg kick trips up Lauzon, and Miller follows it with a knee to the body and a series of close-quarter punches. Miller rushes Lauzon toward the fence, again attacking the body with knees and going over the top with punches. Lauzon backs Miller off with a short right hand, but Miller storms right back, drilling “J-Lau” with a knee in the Thai plum. Miller tries a standing arm-triangle, can’t get it. When the fighters separate, Lauzon’s face is red with blood, but a quick check from the doctor confirms he’s fit to continue. Another knee from Miller, one to the head now, a series of punishing left hands and a knee to the body but Lauzon stays standing. Miller is relentless, just sizing up his bloodied opponent and assaulting him with punches. For his part, Lauzon is sticking with it, covering up but not cowering and he makes it back to his stool to see round two.

PICTURE R
D. Mandel Miller vs. Lauzon was an absolute war.
/PICTURE R
More of the same from Miller to start the second, just harassing Lauzon with left hands and knees before bullying him to the ground. Miller is in half-guard on Lauzon’s right side, trying to free his other leg and pass to full mount. He gets there with 3:00 remaining in the round but Lauzon quickly traps the leg again. Lauzon sweeps on top but ref Yves Lavigne is forced to pause the action to remove a lengthy piece of tape hanging from Lauzon’s right glove. Lavigne resumes the action in the same position and Miller pulls rubber guard, staying tight on Lauzon from underneath.
Lauzon tries to step into mount, loses it and instead falls back for a heel hook try, which also goes by the wayside. He catches Miller coming forward and tries a brabo choke setup but runs out of time.

Round 3
Lauzon improbably looks the fresher of the lightweights at the start of round three, but a chopping leg kick from Miller halts his momentum. Miller kicks at him for a moment, then allows him back up. Miller is staying in Lauzon’s face now, throwing leg kicks and short left hands inside with success. Lauzon backs him away with a knee to the body, walks him down and lands a strong left. Miller gives him a hook right back and a few inside leg kicks for good measure. The pace slows as the fight enters its final two minutes, jockeying for position in the Thai clinch. Miller roughs up his man with short standing elbows and left hands. A knee up the middle from Miller and then a right hand wallops Lauzon. With 30 seconds to go, Lauzon drops for a heel hook. He can’t get it, straining as he might, his forehead painting the mat with a thick red stain. He gives up and goes for a guillotine choke but the horn sounds and this one is headed to the scorecards. Easy pick for “Fight of the Night” here.

Jim Miller vs. Charles Oliveira

Round 1
Miller lands an outside leg kick but Oliveira immediately grabs a body lock, lifts Miller and slams the veteran to the mat. “Do Bronx” instantly gets Miller’s back with two hooks in and hunts for a rear-naked choke. After making some adjustments, Oliveira slides his right arm under Miller’s chin, and the New Jersey native is no longer fighting his opponent’s hands.
Oliveira continues to apply the squeeze and Miller’s face is turning red. Finally, Miller is forced to tap out
after defending the maneuver for as long as he possibly could. Some eight years after their initial meeting, Oliveira avenges a previous loss to Miller with his 12th submission triumph, a UFC record.
