Azat Maksum (129: Missed Weight) vs. Mitch Raposo
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Maksum (-325), Raposo (+260)

Round 1
A fight initially booked at 125 pounds between a pair of struggling flyweights will now take place at a catchweight of 129 pounds because Maksum (15-2, 1-2 UFC) felt it was in his best interest to exceed the cap by three pounds. He gives away 30% of his purse to Raposo (9-3, 0-2 UFC) before the latter even sets foot in the ring, and this becomes a must-win for both athletes. Referee Rich Mitchell draws the short straw to handle this preliminary offering, standing back as the two decide against touching gloves.
Maksum moves right to the center of the cage and walks into a clean right hand on the temple. Maksum has to shake it off and stays out of punching range for a time, eventually flashing his jab out a few times to work his distance. He lets fly a body kick that is easily blocked, and Raposo rushes after him with swirling hooks. Maksum evades them and keeps his jab extended to prevent Raposo from crashing the pocket, but Raposo still manages to race at him. Raposo has an overhand right bang into the shoulder, and he escapes before getting countered. Both fighters miss when looking for their jabs, and Maksum smacks his foe’s lead calf to decent effect. Raposo jams Maksum in the jaw with a straight left hand down the pipe, and he looks to follow with a couple hooks. Maksum thanks him for this with a kick to the gut and a takedown shot.
“Kazakh” completes the takedown, putting Raposo on his seat in the blink of an eye. The New England native posts off and works to his feet, leaning on the fencing while Maksum has him from behind looking to get a hook in. Maksum elevates his man from behind after softening him with knees to the thigh and slams Raposo to the mat with a partial suplex. Mitchell asks for more activity when the two grind up against the wall, and he wraps a leg around Raposo’s for an earnest takedown effort. Raposo breaks out of that and puts his back firmly again the chain links, sprawling to defend a low single-leg entry. Maksum’s attempts lead only to Mitchell asking for more, and he abandons it with seconds to go and lets his hooks fly. Raposo zips out of the way and counters with a right hand over the top as the narrow round ends.

Round 2
Maksum again assumes the center of the Octagon to get going in the round, finally landing a strike at the 20-second mark. Raposo snaps into action with a huge right hand that shakes Maksum up, and as Maksum has to reset, Raposo guns for him with another. Maksum probes out with his distant jab and pecks at Raposo when Raposo unloads with one more massive hook. Maksum tries to defend with a knee shield, and Raposo still reaches him at the end of a punch. Maksum checks a low kick and swats out with a left hook, and Raposo dings him with his overhand right. Raposo slips a punch combo to fire off another, sliding it above Maksum’s forehead. Maksum shoots for a takedown, and Raposo is nowhere to be found.
Raposo lets his foe reset so he can stand in the pocket with him, and stand in the pocket and trade they do. Both men land cleanly, but it appears that Maksum has stung Raposo as Raposo has to backpedal for a moment. The American parries a one-two and swings out a left hand and a right, and Maksum adjusts his nose and shoots for a double-leg takedown. Raposo cannot defend the initial attempt, looking to his corner directly behind him for advice how to at least get back to his seat. He follows their instructions to kick back to his feet, so Maksum lifts him off the ground and slams him down. Raposo wraps up a triangle choke off his back when he hits the mat, and he transitions to an omoplata shoulder lock before Maksum tosses it all aside and nails him with an elbow. Raposo scoots back upright, and Maksum sucks his hips out and puts him back on the floor. Maksum tries for one more mat return, but the round ends in the clinch instead.

Round 3
Like the previous two rounds, Maksum locates himself directly in the center of the Octagon and presses forward. Raposo meets him in the middle and throws hands, only for Maksum to scoop him off his feet and put him on the floor. Raposo wall-walks to get back upright, leaning his weight on the fence to take some of the pressure off of him. Maksum hits a suplex to put Raposo on the floor, and the American rebounds easily to put his back to the wall again. Raposo pummels to break out of the clinch, and he walks down “Kazakh” loaded for bear. He scores a right hand over the top and leans to evade the counter, and dips in to pop Maksum in the chops with a shovel left. Maksum walks Raposo down around the cage and pushes a front kick after him, and Raposo replies with a spirited overhand right. Raposo shuts down a takedown shot and threatens with his right hand.
Raposo puts everything behind his big swings, and Maksum takes advantage of one with a deep double-leg shot. When Raposo shuts it down, Maksum transitions to a single, looking for anything to work with but unable to find it. Raposo breaks free and dodges a front kick, and he loads up on power punches. Raposo goes with a right to the body and left to the head, and Maksum shoots low and is shut down. Raposo pushes Maksum to the ground, and Maksum blatantly grabs the fence to reverse his position and stop a takedown from materializing. Mitchell is enraged by the foul, pausing the action and deduction a point for the fight-altering foul. It is unclear if Maksum understands, but one point is one point and likely a major factor as only a few seconds are left in the fight. Raposo is the one to push the pace despite Maksum being down on the scorecards, and Maksum flips his foe to the floor but cannot keep him there for more than a second. The horn blares, and another betting upset may be in the cards.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident picked Oct 19, 2025 (6 days before fight)
Azat Maksum

Angelo picks Azat Maksum, emphasizing his well-rounded skills and composure. He argues that Azat's losses are close fights against established opponents, while Mitch Raposo's wins are less impressive. Angelo is surprised Azat is only minus 350, calling it an insult compared to Hamdy's minus 450 line.

The fact that Azat Maksum is only minus 350, and Hamdy is minus 450 is absurd.
"Azat should dominate here. The odds kind of indicate that at minus 350. ... Azat is the pick, and the fact that he is a lesser favorite than Hamdy Abdolvahhab is an insult to MMA."

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Oct 22, 2025 (3 days before fight)
Azat Maksum

Big Brady is high on Azat Maksum, believing he is a top-15 flyweight with top-10 upside. He notes Maksum's impressive takedown ability against Tagir Ulanbekov and sees a clear path to victory via grappling against Mitch Raposo, who has been taken down and submitted easily in the past. Brady expects Maksum to finally put it all together and make a statement, predicting a first-round submission.

Maksum by first round submission
"I think he eventually finds a submission here. I think he goes to the grappling. I think he taps out Mitch Raposo in round number one."

Cody Saftic Expert Confident picked Oct 22, 2025 (3 days before fight)
Azat Maksum

Cody picks Azat Maksum, noting that Raposo's wrestling is not enough to win fights, as he lacks control time and striking. Maksum has shown he can wrestle and strike, and has fought tough competition. Cody believes Maksum will win a decision, possibly close, but should get the nod in Abu Dhabi.

"it's a is a As at Maxim play for me here."

Connor Ruebusch Expert Confident picked Oct 24, 2025 (1 day before fight)
Azat Maksum

Connor picks Maksum, noting that Raposo does not do enough volume and has poor footwork, constantly circling to his weak side. He believes Maksum, despite being a low-output fighter, is more proactive and can set up takedowns with his strikes. Connor also points out that Raposo's striking output is very low (1.62 strikes per minute) and that he is not effective at this level.

Maksum is a serious favorite at -415.
"I have to take Maksum. I just think what we've seen from Raposo so far is he just simply cannot deliver enough volume to be effective."

Daniel Vreeland Expert Confident picked Oct 23, 2025 (2 days before fight)
Azat Maksum

Daniel Vreeland believes Maksum is too big, physical, and skilled for Raposo, who he considers too small for the UFC. He notes that Maksum has faced much tougher competition and that Raposo's regional scene is weak. He predicts Maksum will dominate and possibly finish, but acknowledges the -400 price is steep given Maksum's close UFC fights.

"I'm going to take Azat Maxum to get back on track this Saturday in Abu Dhabi."

Azat Maksum

Lucrative James picks Azat Maksum, predicting a submission win. He believes Maksum is more skilled in boxing and striking, and has excellent anti-grappling as shown against Tiger Ulybekov. He expects Raposo to shoot takedowns, but Maksum can reverse or submit him. He notes Maksum's tendency to fight to the level of his competition but still favors him heavily.

The host notes that Raposo has been given the benefit of the doubt in recent fights but sees this as a bad matchup for him. He expects Maksum to stuff takedowns, control the striking, and possibly land his own takedowns, grinding out a decision win.

Azat Maksum

Paul also picks Maksum, citing Raposo's risk-averse style and lack of power. He notes that Maksum has good takedown defense and can strike, while Raposo relies on takedowns that may not score well with judges. Paul expects a decision win for Maksum.

"Maxim should get it. At minus 400, is it feel great? No. No. But Raposo's just really not showing you anything that would lead to me believe that he's going to outright win this thing in convincing fashion in enemy …"

The MMA Guru Expert Confident picked Oct 21, 2025 (4 days before fight)
Azat Maksum

The MMA Guru picks Azat Maksum by 30-27 decision, but warns of a possible split decision due to bias. He believes Maksum has a height and reach advantage, and will win scrambles and grappling exchanges. He criticizes Mitch Raposo (referred to as Mitrione Vusa in transcript) for low output and being overhyped by commentary. He notes that Maksum fought Tagir Ulanbekov closely and should have won rounds, while Raposo has been given undeserved split decisions.

"I'm going to go with Azamat Maxim. I think he can get down Mitrione Vusa and also go for some like back takes and stuff like that."
ZA
Zane Simon Expert Confident picked Oct 24, 2025 (1 day before fight)
Azat Maksum

Zane agrees, citing Raposo's inability to put together enough work. He notes that Maksum, while not dangerous, is at least capable of being proactive and using strikes to set up takedowns. Zane also highlights that Raposo's footwork constantly takes him out of range and position, making him ineffective.

"I'll take the high-volume low danger over low-volume low danger or you know, even low-volume high danger really honestly at flyweight."

Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident picked Jun 20, 2025 (1 day before fight)
Tagir Ulanbekov

Angelo picks Tagir Ulanbekov to win, citing his size, strength, and wrestling from the Khabib camp. He notes that Tagir will be slower but will use his size to drag Azat to the ground. He acknowledges Azat's speed and scrambling ability but thinks Tagir's pressure will be enough. However, he is undecided on using him in fantasy due to his high salary and potential for a low-scoring grind.

Undecided on fantasy due to $9,300 salary; mentions potential for high score if scrambles lead to many takedowns.
"Tear is going to be the pick. I'm undecided on the $9,300 because again he should win this fight."

Big Brady picks Tagir Ulanbekov, noting he is a huge flyweight with underrated striking, good wrestling, and excellent grappling with long arms and front chokes. He criticizes Maksum's performances against Tyson Nam and Charles Johnson, where he was outlanded and tired. Maksum is taking the fight on short notice. Brady predicts Ulanbekov finishes Maksum in the second or third round by submission, specifically a second-round submission.

Tagir Ulanbekov

The MMA Guru picks Tagir Ulanbekov, citing his preparation for Kyogi Horiguchi and his height advantage. He predicts a decision win for Ulanbekov via control time and busier striking at range.

Tyson Nam vs. Bruno Silva
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Silva (-195), Nam (+165)

Round 1
Moving right along, flyweights take center stage as two of the heavier handed competitors in the division meet. Fresh off a first-round knockout last August, Nam (21-12-1, 3-3 UFC) at 39 years of age looks to prove he still has some life left, and he steps into the cage against Brazilian bulldog Silva (12-5-2, 1 NC; 2-2, 1 NC UFC). Aware that this one could end in a moment’s notice, referee Chris Tognoni is prepped and ready for what happens next. There is no thought of offering a glove touch, and instead the two want to engage. Silva introduces himself with a whipping leg kick, and Nam smiles at him as he walks him down. Nam hand-fights with his left hand outstretched, and he follows a pawing left with a straight right. Silva circles away as Nam gives chase, with Nam lining up his right hand. Silva darts forward with two hooks, doing enough to make Nam smiles again. The Brazilian fires off another nasty low kick, and his subsequent combination flusters Nam. Silva spins with a back fist that collides perfectly off the side of Nam’s head, and the elder statesman simply grins at him. Tognoni warns Nam for outstretched fingers, and Silva boots his foe in the body. Nam continues to walk Silva down, and they trade low kick for low kick. Silva slides a right hand around the guard, and Nam practically ignores it as he kicks the inside thigh in response. Silva shoots in suddenly for a takedown, and Nam tosses it aside and ducks a looping punch. When Silva aims a kick to the ribcage, Nam catches him with an overhand right. Silva backs off as the jabs from Nam aim at his face, and he connects with a clean right hand while backing away. Nam bears down on him with a short salvo of punches, and Silva is mostly out of harm’s way in time. Silva goes for a takedown to keep Nam honest when Nam backs him against the wall, but Nam keeps his forward momentum when there is nothing to the entry. Nam blocks a spinning back fist as he marches onward, and he eats a body kick when trying to throw hands. Nam gets off his own body kick and scores a few punches to follow before the close round ends.

Sherdog Scores

Tristen Critchfield scores the round: 10-9 Silva

Round 2
The bantamweights meet in the middle, but it is Silva that takes a backward step when Nam comes at him faster. Nam pushes out jab after inaccurate jab, and Silva times a spectacular front kick up the middle that smashes into Nam’s jaw and sends in crashing to the canvas. Silva leaps down on top in the blink of an eye into Nam’s guard, and he pummels a dazed Nam with ground strikes.
As Nam looks to escape and get his bearings, Silva slithers around to take the back as Nam is standing up. “Bulldog” snatches up a rear-naked choke without even getting a hook in, and Nam falls to the mat as Silva secures the back take. Silva gets his hooks in, and he crushes with his grip while Nam tries and fails to fight the hands and break the grip. As he is attempting to free himself from the submission, Nam goes out,
and Tognoni recognizes this and calls a halt to the match immediately. This is a big win for Silva, who may find himself with a number next to his name next week as he becomes the first man to submit the well-traveled Nam.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Lean picked Mar 5, 2023 (6 days before fight)
Bruno Silva

Angelo leans toward Bruno Silva because he has more ways to win, being well-rounded with power, wrestling, and submissions. He acknowledges Tyson Nam's one-punch knockout power but prefers the versatility. He suggests the best bet might be Tyson Nam inside the distance (decision no action) due to Nam's toughness and Silva's potential rust from a two-year layoff.

Big Brady Expert Confident picked Mar 8, 2023 (3 days before fight)
Bruno Silva

Big Brady picks Bruno Silva because he believes Silva will be the more active striker and has a clear grappling advantage. He notes that Tyson Nam relies on landing a big shot and doesn't grapple, and at 39 years old it's hard to favor him. Brady expects Silva to mix in takedowns and win by decision, as Nam's 100% takedown defense hasn't been tested by grapplers.

Connor Ruebusch Expert Lean picked Mar 9, 2023 (2 days before fight)
Tyson Nam

Connor picks Nam, favoring his pressure and counter-striking style. He notes that Nam is comfortable in the pocket and accurate with his right hand, while Silva tends to become frantic under pressure and may give Nam the openings he wants. He acknowledges Silva's toughness and tricky entries but thinks Nam's experience and timing will prevail.

Silva opened +130, now -196; Nam opened -150, now +162. Connor is surprised Silva is such a heavy favorite.
"I'll favor nam just because I think he is very comfortable in those in that kind of fight like getting lots of opportunities to counter while getting to pressure."

MMA Lock of the Night Expert Confident picked Mar 6, 2023 (5 days before fight)
Bruno Silva

I think Silva's improvements in combination striking and his ability to take the fight to the ground will be key. He can avoid Nam's power by dragging him to the mat and controlling the fight there. Nam's decision-making is poor when he can't knock opponents out. Silva should win by decision, but be cautious of Nam's knockout power.

Bruno Silva

Zane picks Silva, believing his durability and power will be the difference. He notes that Silva is very hard to knock out and will create exchanges, while Nam's low output could be a problem if Silva pressures him. He thinks Silva will do a little more over three rounds, but acknowledges it's a close fight.

"I think I'm gonna pick Silva just because I think neither of these guys are gonna go to sleep all right I think he's just gonna do a little more than them."

Tyson Nam vs. Matt Schnell

Round 1
The final men’s flyweight tilt on the card comes with top-10 implications when “Danger” Schnell (14-5, 4-3 UFC) puts his higher position in danger against heavy-handed Hawaiian Nam (20-11-1, 2-2 UFC). Holding on tight will be referee Herb Dean, who will try not to get caught up in a flurry of feet and fists. There is no glove touch, as it’s time to strike. Nam aims his right hand, and Schnell kicks the body and topples over. Nam does not have any interest in playing the ground game, so he allows Schnell to stand up and land a trio of punches. Schnell strings together a few punches while Nam just stares at him, slapping away punches without concern and stomping the floor to draw a reaction. Schnell gets in a solid right hand when he absorbs a leg kick, and he lets loose another right hook as Nam kicks at him once more. Schnell bites down on his mouthpiece to sling a right hand, and he pops Nam a few times with strikes. Nam’s right hand is ready and rearing to throw, but Schnell is quick on the action and lands a few shots and escapes. Nam reaches out with a right hand and throws a leg kick, and when Schnell replies to him with punches, Nam smiles. Schnell takes a quick combination on the chin, and he slams his shin on Nam’s knee. The Hawaiian stalks his man down and sneaks up a left uppercut, but Schnell pays it no mind as he gets off a front kick up the middle. Schnell keeps away with a few jabs, and one jab is able to disrupt the big right hand from the headhunting Nam. Nam lands a pair of punches to the body, and Schnell backs off and flicks out a few more jabs. Schnell sticks and moves while Nam sits down on his right hand, and he is out of the way when Nam slings it. Schnell sees the right hand coming as he slips it, keeping punches going and tagging Nam. Nam absorbs the blows and throws back, but he appears surprised at the latest dangerous barrage from “Danger.” Nam races forward only to eat a few short punches, and Schnell’s combinations are doing work and damage on Nam’s face. A cut has opened around Nam’s eye, and he paws at it when the round ends.

Round 2
Schnell picks up where he left off with fast hands as he peppers Nam with strikes. Nam sits on a few punches, and Schnell backpedals while Nam rushes towards him. Schnell puts a three-piece on Nam before the Hawaiian can react, and he slips a few long punches from Nam. Schnell lands a jab, but Nam cracks him with a pair of big hooks that land flush. Schnell appears cautious as he has tasted Nam’s power, and a right hand dislodges Schnell’s mouthpiece. Nam is bearing down on his opponent, hunting his foe and slamming his right hand into Schnell’s cheek. Schnell wears it well but his pace and volume has diminished as he took some of those heavy shots, so Nam keeps it rolling by putting two punches together. Nam flicks out a jab a few times, and a leg kick of his disrupts the return fire from Schnell. The Hawaiian grins as he walks down his foe, but Schnell has started to get his jabs working again. Nam wings a couple of huge punches, and Schnell beats him to the punch but still eats a left hook. Five crisp punches land from Schnell, and Nam grins and throws back his own combination that is largely blocked. A naked body kick from Schnell allows Nam to land with a right hand over the top, but he absorbs it and takes a step back. Twin jabs from Schnell temporarily pause Nam’s rush forward, but the Hawaiian is quick to stalk his man down again and land blows. Three punches of Schnell lead to four from Nam, who is finding his mark more often this round. He swings a big right hand that narrowly misses the target, but one that comes after does not miss. The two flyweights trade to end the round.

Round 3
Nam comes out aggressively, walking down his foe and throw leather. Schnell stays on the outside with crisp, straighter shots, and he ducks when Nam fires a big right hand that pulls him off-balance. Schnell puts three punches on Nam’s mug while Nam is coming at him, but Nam lands with his own shots in response. As Nam presses the action, Schnell gets off a check knee, and the Hawaiian is unconcerned as he clicks a left hand off the jaw. Nam blocks a one-two and absorbs a kick, leading Schnell to kick low as he backs away. A big right hand from Nam slides off the shoulder, and Schnell has his guard up when Nam comes at him with a fire and fury. Both men jab the other repeatedly, and Nam is beaming as he walks Schnell down but takes some shots. Schnell lands four before Nam can reach him, but Nam’s chin is study as he walks through them and gets off his own punch combo. An energized Nam walks Schnell down and lands heavy punches, all while Schnell greets him on the way in. Two big hooks shake up Schnell for a moment, but “Danger” gathers himself and jabs several times to back Nam off. Nam throws a two-punch combination so hard he almost falls over, and Schnell avoids the damage and gets off a few jabs here and there. Nam clubs him with a left hand, and he pushes in before clocking Schnell with a left hook. They trade it out to the bell, and this exciting kickboxing match is over. The scorecards could be very interesting in this 125-pound affair.

Tyson Nam

Big Brady believes Tyson Nam's power will be the difference. He notes that Matt Schnell is chinny and brawls with his chin up, which plays into Nam's hands. He predicts a knockout win for Nam, saying Schnell will get his fourth knockout loss. He suggests betting Nam inside the distance, as he doesn't see Nam winning a decision.

Tyson Nam

The MMA Guru picks Tyson Nam to win by first-round KO. He notes Nam's recent two KO wins (over Jerome Rivera and Zarrukh Adashev) and his power and accuracy. He believes Schnell's year-long layoff after a KO loss will backfire against a fast starter like Nam, and that Schnell's chin is suspect at flyweight.

Tyson Nam

Big Brady picks Tyson Nam because he believes Nam's power will catch Rivera, who leaves openings on defense. He notes Rivera wants to take the fight to the ground but isn't great at getting it there, and Nam hits very hard. He predicts a first-round knockout, though he admits it's hard to bet on Nam due to low volume.

Jerome Rivera

The host believes Jerome Rivera will be more active and offensive, using takedowns and cage work to outwork Tyson Nam. He notes Nam is a low-output fighter who relies on knockouts and rarely wins decisions, while Rivera has a solid chin and good movement. He expects Rivera to win by decision, as Nam is unlikely to finish him and will lose if he doesn't get a knockout.

Jerome Rivera by decision +305; Tyson Nam inside distance +125

Azat Maksum

Angelo loves Azat Maksum, calling him one of the most talented new signings. He believes Maksum can touch Nam up on the feet and out-grapple him if needed. He notes Nam's age (39), recent knockout loss, and questionable chin. He says outside of a wild overhand, Nam won't win. He plans to parlay Maksum even at minus 300.

Big Brady picks Azat Maksum, believing he has multiple paths to victory. He notes Maksum is a good wrestler and grappler with power on the feet, while Tyson Nam relies heavily on knockout power and has low volume. He expects Maksum to take Nam down, breaking his 100% takedown defense, and likely find a submission in the second round. However, he refuses to bet at -415 for a debuting flyweight.

Submission in the second round; won't bet at -415

Cody picks Maksum, citing his youth, speed, volume, and wrestling. He notes Nam is 40, has low volume, and looked shot in his last fight. He acknowledges Nam's power and takedown defense but thinks Maksum's volume and wrestling will be too much. He considers a Nam by knockout prop at +650 as a long-shot but goes with Maksum.

Tyson Nam by knockout at +650

The host is high on Maksum, calling him a beast with a 16-0 record, patient striking, and relentless takedown chains. He expects Maksum to use in-and-out pressure, kicks from distance, and counters before taking the fight to the ground and finishing Nam via TKO. He notes Nam's age (nearly 40) and recent first finish in 10 years as factors favoring Maksum.
