Angelo Bodetti Expert Confident pick date unknown
Kelvin Gastelum

Angelo picks Kelvin Gastelum, calling him a great wrestler and striker with an unbelievable chin, but wasted talent due to poor work ethic. He says this is the easiest matchup Kelvin has had in five years, and he should win the striking exchanges and eat whatever comes back. He notes concern about Kelvin's takedown defense after the Sean Brady fight, but thinks he should be a better wrestler than Stoltzfus. He says the line should be wider but isn't because people can't trust Kelvin.

The line is honestly should be wider and it just isn't because people can't trust him.
"I do think that Kelvin is going to win here, so he's going to be the pick."

Kelvin Gastelum

Big Brady picks Gastelum as the better striker who should keep the fight standing. He notes Stoltzfus is not on Gastelum's level and that a loss would be Gastelum's worst. He predicts a decision win but says he won't bet on it.

Decision win; will not bet
"Gastelum by decision for me."

Connor Ruebusch Expert Hesitant pick date unknown
Kelvin Gastelum

Connor picks Gastelum hesitantly, noting that Stoltzfus is glacially slow and has been knocked out multiple times. However, he warns that Gastelum could have a Punahele Soriano-like performance where he fails to impose himself and gets outworked. Connor believes Gastelum's athleticism and scrambling will be key, but he is not confident.

"I'm taking Gastelum, but I can easily see this fight looking like the Soriano fight."

Despite Gastelum's inconsistency, the host sees this as a fight he should win. He expects Gastelum to showcase his takedown defense and pressure with power striking, leading to a knockout in the second or third round.

Kelvin Gastelum

The MMA Guru picks Kelvin Gastelum, believing he has a clear advantage in technical ability and power. He notes Stoltzfus has been knocked out multiple times and lacks the tools to drop or ragdoll Gastelum. He predicts a TKO win in the middle of the fight, possibly late first or second round, as Gastelum pressures and finishes a tiring Stoltzfus.

TKO win late first or second round
"Kelvin Gastelum getting this one done. ... This is a free TKO win late in the first round, in the second round at some point."

Zane Simon Expert Hesitant pick date unknown
Kelvin Gastelum

Zane picks Gastelum hesitantly, acknowledging that Stoltzfus could replicate his win over Punahele Soriano by pressuring and outworking Gastelum. He notes that Gastelum is still athletic and durable but has shown a tendency to not consider bad positions. Zane believes Gastelum's scrambling ability and power will be enough, but he can easily see this fight looking like the Soriano fight.

"I suppose I'm still gonna pick Kelvin Gastelum here. But I can easily see this fight looking like the Soriano fight."

Dustin Stoltzfus vs. Nursulton Ruziboev
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Ruziboev (-298), Stoltzfus (+240)

Round 1
From one action fight to another we go, this time in the middleweight division. Stoltzfus (16-6, 3-5 UFC) has only gone the distance twice in his eight UFC outings, while all three wins inside the Octagon for Ruziboev (35-9-2, 2 NC; 3-1 UFC) have come by knockout. Referee Chris Tognoni knows he very well might be needed before the final horn. There is a no glove touch, as Stoltzfus declines to do so. Ruziboev accepts this and lets go with an early leg kick. Stoltzfus pulls back on a body kick, but Ruziboev does not do that as his lands flush. The Uzbekistani fighter scores a calf kick, and Stoltzfus does the same. The calf is the target for Ruziboev, until he swings his way in with two booming punches. Stoltzfus tries to grab hold of the taller man, but Ruziboev tosses him aside and lines up a straight right hand. The two clash heads together, and Stoltzfus manages to land the cleaner of the two and knocks “Black” to his seat. Stoltzfus rushes forward and jumps guard with a guillotine choke, and he steps into full mount and wraps the submission up and under the chin. Ruziboev pats Stoltzfus’ backside but it is not registered as a tap, and Stoltzfus imposes his weight to complete the maneuver. Ruziboev thinks about giving up but explodes to flip Stoltzfus over, and he gets into the guard and just hangs out there to get his wits back about him. Ruziboev postures up to drop down a punch and an elbow, and Stoltzfus works his way up and ignores a guillotine setup from his opponent. Stoltzfus times a spinning back elbow to break, and the two split up. Ruziboev opens up with a left hand and a spinning back kick, and his second spin kick misses as Stoltzfus cracks him with a counter. Ruziboev bounces around to shake it out, leaping forward to deliver single punches that connect each and every time. Stoltzfus is tough as can be, but Ruziboev slugs him in the chops until he wraps his arm around the Pennsylvanian and wrangles him to the mat. The bell sounds, to the surprise of many.

Round 2
The second round opens with a head kick from Ruziboev after a bit of measuring. After some more timing, Ruziboev lets loose a spinning wheel kick that bangs square into Stoltzfus’ head. Stoltzfus swings his way forward, catching Ruziboev and putting him on his heels. Stoltzfus pursues a takedown, and Ruziboev defends with a kimura. Stoltzfus fights it off and lowers Ruziboev to his back, his nose pouring blood from a particularly nasty uppercut. Stoltzfus gets in half guard and pursues an arm-triangle choke, letting it go to bash Ruziboev with punches and short elbows. Stoltzfus sets up another guillotine choke and leans to the side, and Ruziboev turns to defend it. This allows Stoltzfus to briefly pursue a brabo choke, only to let it go when he does not have the right leverage. Ruziboev powers back to his feet and finds himself in guillotine danger once more, but the blood covering Ruziboev’s melon plus the fatigue setting in allows him to slip out. Ruziboev counters with a knee to the body, and he smacks Stoltzfus with a hammerfist and inadvertently headbutts him. Ruziboev keeps slugging away, and Stoltzfus snatches up a leg and turns into it to drag Ruziboev down to a knee. Ruziboev pulls on the fence to defend it, as Tognoni shouts at him to knock it off. The damage is done from the foul, as Ruziboev escapes and lowers himself down to start pounding on the bloodied Stoltzfus again. Stoltzfus sways to avoid the worst of the ground-and-pound, and he lands his own sneaky shots off his back right before the horn.

Round 3
The last round kicks off with both men taking a moment to analyze the other. Ruziboev darts in with a jab and a body kick, and Tognoni warns that the kick went south of the border. Stoltzfus is no worse for wear, and he lets the fight continue. Clubbing Ruziboev’s lead leg with his shin, he knocks the taller man to his seat and times a right hand to drive into his jaw. Ruziboev twists around to stand back up, and he parries a front kick aimed at his chest. Stoltzfus rushes at him, ducking a punch to tie his man up, and Ruziboev darts away in time. Ruziboev reaches his target with a left hook, and Stoltzfus kicks him in the front leg. Ruziboev times a right hand over the top, and he spins and drills Stoltzfus in the face with a wheel kick. Stoltzfus takes it on the chin and lashes out with a right hand, and he gets knocked back with an overhand right counter that bangs into his gloves. Stoltzfus lets fly his own spinning wheel kick, and it clatters off the guard. Ruziboev does the same. They crack one another with single right hands, and then connect with hard lefts. As Ruziboev swings for the fences, Stoltzfus tackles him to the ground and lands in half guard. Stoltzfus imposes his weight while not getting much offense off, looking instead to advance position. Tognoni asks Stoltzfus for more activity, as Stoltzfus is solely covering his foe’s mouth but not offering any strikes. Stoltzfus climbs into mount with 50 seconds to go, and Ruziboev scrambles like a madman to get to his knees. Stoltzfus wraps up the beginning of a brabo choke, and when Ruziboev fights through it, he transitions to a guillotine. Ruziboev pulls out of it, and he delivers a spin kick to the ribs. Ruziboev nails the American with a right hand, and they proceed to miss with spinning strikes before time expires. They raise their fists in the air after 15 minutes of bloody combat.

Brunno Ferreira vs. Dustin Stoltzfus
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Ferreira (-265), Stoltzfus (+215)

Round 1
Win or lose, all 12 of Brazilian bomber Ferreira’s (11-1, 2-1 UFC) pro outings have ended before the 6:08 mark. The same cannot be said for Pennsylvania-based grappler Stoltzfus (15-5, 2-4 UFC), but he knows his way around a stoppage as well. Referee Jason Herzog dons his hard hat for the middleweight proceeding, one that commences with them coming together in the center of the cage but not to touch gloves. They back off, as Ferreira retreats around the edge of the cage while Stoltzfus walks his way forward. Stoltzfus lands a right hand as Ferreira zips away, and Ferreira lands a low kick that gets countered with a straight right. Ferreira unloads with a ferocious right hand that stings the Pennsylvanian, and he blasts him with a second as Stoltzfus counters to surprise him. Stoltzfus crashes the pocket and tosses Ferreira to the mat, and he pushes “The Hulk” over to get into his guard. Ferreira utilizes butterfly hooks to kick Stoltzfus off of him, and he turns over when he does this to stand but Stoltzfus leaps on his back to keep him grounded. Ferreira works his way back upright, and he fights off an armbar. Stoltzfus transitions into a kneebar, and Ferreira gets away with a fence grab to reposition himself. Ferreira rolls through to get out of the leglock, and Stoltzfus runs at him throwing hands before banging into him and pushing him to the wall. Stoltzfus lands a right hand, and Ferreira responds with a stern elbow before darting away to reset. Stoltzfus walks forward and kicks “The Hulk” high, and he dings him with a follow-up right hand. Ferreira misses with a right hand, and he guards another had kick effort. Stoltzfus spins with a back kick that slams square into Ferreira’s midsection, and Ferreira has to shake it out and kick him in the belly. Ferreira spins with a back elbow that hurts Stoltzfus, and the two start slugging with everything they have. Stoltzfus is in a bad way but still swinging for the fences, and he pursues a takedown but is pushed away by “The Hulk.” Stoltzfus drills his man with an elbow, but Ferreira is relentless, throwing everything he has into a right hand that slams into his foe’s temple. Stoltzfus staggers back, and Ferreira reaches him with a long right hand and whips a head kick at him that pounds into the shoulder. Ferreira leaps forward but his knee is not high enough, so he just ends up bumping chest-to-chest into his foe.
The Brazilian lands two shots to the body, takes a few steps back and spins with a mighty elbow. The strike connects cleanly on the forehead, putting Stoltzfus down as Herzog springs between them to stop the fight.
While Stoltzfus is still standing as Herzog halts the contest, he does not protest the stoppage as he is still out on his feet and needs to be caught so he does not fall over. Ferreira, who might be out of steam after his final onslaught, jumps on the ground and slams it with both hands like “The Hulk” does during his Hulk Smash move. This is a spectacular finish, and one of just a small handful of knockouts via spinning elbow in UFC history. The main card has undoubtedly picked up after a slow set of prelims, delivering a “Round of the Year” candidate along with a potential suitor for the “Knockout of the Year” list as well.

Abusupiyan Magomedov vs. Dustin Stoltzfus
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Magomedov (-265), Stoltzfus (+225)

Round 1
Wrapping up the prelims with a bow, highly touted debutant Magomedov (24-4-1, 0-0 UFC) will finally step into the Octagon for the first time after a number of unfortunate delays. He draws Stoltzfus (14-4, 1-3 UFC) in his first assignment, who will serve as the final U.S.-based fighter on the card. Out of the last 14 wins for “Abus,” he has procured stoppages in 13 of those, with his lone decision coming over PFL 2022 welterweight finalist Sadibou Sy back in 2018. The third man inside the cage for this one will be referee Loic Pora, who stands back while the two men bump fists. Stoltzfus punches his way into an exchange, blocking a kick with his knee on the way in. Magomedov is a man possessed after this brief feeling-out process,
splitting the guard with a Lyoto Machida-esque front kick that staggers the American. Magomedov senses he already has Stoltzfus in danger, and he meets Stoltzfus with an uppercut that knocks him back to the wall. “Abus” releases a left hook and a massive uppercut that wreck Stoltzfus, who crumbles to his back on the floor. Sealing the deal, the German-Russian newcomer drives two blistering right hands into the jaw, and Stoltzfus goes out and gets snapped back into consciousness with the thunderous punches.
Pora cannot get in fast enough to save Stoltzfus from any further damage, and Magomedov has just made a massive statement by destroying Stoltzfus in less than 20 seconds. The stoppage will likely clock in as one of the fastest knockouts in UFC middleweight history, depending on when it was officially called. Wow.

Gerald Meerschaert vs. Dustin Stoltzfus

Round 1
Grappler faces grappler in the preliminary headliner, as grizzled veteran Meerschaert (33-14, 8-6 UFC) comes in with more submission wins (25) than his opponent Stoltzfus (13-3, 0-2 UFC) has in total professional appearances (16). Keeping a close eye on the proceedings will be referee Mark Smith, who observes the middleweights come forward without any interest in touching gloves. Meerschaert lands first with an overhand right, and Stoltzfus greets him in the middle and throws back with bad intentions. “GM3” delivers a clean kick straight to the liver, and when Stoltzfus absorbs it, Meerschaert crashes forward to hit a double that sets Stoltzfus on his backside. Seated against the fence, Stoltzfus holds on Meerschaert’s neck with a guillotine choke, but Meerschaert is not remotely concerned as he pulls his opponent from away from the fence and steps over to try to claim guard. Stoltzfus clings to a shoulder lock from his back, and again, Meerschaert does not register this as he slowly works his way to secure full mount. Stoltzfus manages to get Meerschaert’s legs back to settle for half guard, and Meerschaert mounts him until he gets pulled back once more. Stoltzfus explodes back to his feet, where he searches for a single. Stoltzfus finds himself in a precarious position as Meerschaert grabs hold of a combined armbar and kneebar, but Stoltzfus is able to wriggle both limbs out so that he can take top position. Meerschaert scrambles when Stoltzfus starts to score with elbows, and he gets to his knees but Stoltzfus is ready for him. As soon as Stoltzfus puts Meerschaert on his back, Meerschaert reintroduces himself with a speedy armbar. Stoltzfus fights out of danger, where he gets into side control with Meerschaert on his side. Stoltzfus ends up in half guard delivering some ground-and-pound right to the bell, concluding the close first frame in top position.

They swing for the fences, and Meerschaert throws himself off-balance in the exchange. Stoltzfus throws a leg kick, and it gets caught, but he does not manage to do anything with it before setting it down. They both miss with high-intensity kicks, although Meerschaert is able to close the distance and deliver a knee square to the solar plexus. As they tie up, Stoltzfus pursues a takedown, and he grounds Meerschaert and falls into a guillotine choke setup. Stoltzfus pops his head out without much concern, and he stacks Meerschaert up to prohibit him from setting up anything with his legs. Meerschaert pushes off with his feet on the thighs, but Stoltzfus is able to leap back down in time before “GM3” can stand. This time, Meerschaert closes his guard, and Stoltzfus keeps his weight pressed tightly on his foe. Every so often, Stoltzfus sits up to throw a strike, and he comes back down before Meerschaert can do anything off his back. Meerschaert looks for an armlock as Stoltzfus again stacks him up, but there is nothing doing while Stoltzfus clings to him in half guard. When Stoltzfus lands a few strikes from above, Meerschaert bursts back up and gets to his knees. Stoltzfus attacks with a brabo choke when Meerschaert is in this position, and he puts his leg above Meerschaert’s neck to set up a modified version of a Peruvian necktie. “GM3” defends against it, only for Stoltzfus to jump back down when Meerschaert is on his back to land some ground strikes. He ends the second round doing damage with ground-and-pound.

Round 3
Meerschaert blocks an immediate high kick when Stoltzfus attacks to begin the final round, and he lays into Stoltzfus with an overhand right. Stoltzfus turns him around and hits the double, and Meerschaert defends again with a guillotine choke that is suddenly tight. Stoltzfus turns and twists while the arm is beneath his chin, but he calmly, methodically slips his neck out of the choke. Meerschaert powers back up, and he blocks a punch to go for one of his own. The two tired men throw bombs, and Meerschaert lands and absorbs a strike coming back at him. Stoltzfus drives through with a double, putting Meerschaert on his back and landing in side control. Meerschaert once more scrambles, letting Stoltzfus slip out the back door so he can wind up on top. Stoltzfus stays on his knees as Meerschaert tries to take his back, until Stoltzfus suddenly turns to attack a leglock. “GM3” spins through it to free his ankle, and he aims to take Stoltzfus’ back and manages to get a hook in.
From there, the Roufusport grappling coach instantly attacks the neck, sinking in a rear-naked choke as the arm slides beneath the chin. Stoltzfus tries to punch Meerschaert twice from behind his head to do something, anything. He promptly bails on punching, and taps out as he would be put to sleep seconds later.
This is a big comeback for “GM3,” who has notched three submission wins in a row over three tough opponents.

Angelo Bodetti Expert Hesitant pick date unknown
Gerald Meerschaert

Angelo picks Gerald Meerschaert because he is dangerous on the ground and has proven he can survive being stunned. He notes that Meerschaert's chin looked better in his last fight, but Stoltzfus has legitimate power. Angelo thinks Meerschaert will avoid the KO, get the fight to the ground, and win by submission. However, he acknowledges a Stoltzfus KO is very live.

"the pick is gerald to avoid the ko get it to the ground where he needs to be but a dustin ko is 100 percent live"

Gerald Meerschaert

Big Brady picks Gerald Meerschaert, citing his superior experience, striking improvements, and dangerous ground game (94% finish rate, 76% submission rate). He is not sold on Stoltzfus, who was out-struck by Kyle Daukaus and slowed down against Rodolfo Vieira. He expects Meerschaert to get a late submission.

Gerald Meerschaert

Cody is confident in Meerschaert, noting his experience, BJJ, and better striking and wrestling than Stoltzfus. He points out that Stoltzfus has poor takedown defense and has been submitted by lower-level opponents. Cody thinks Meerschaert can win wherever the fight goes, though he warns about Meerschaert's chin. He considers -235 a fair price.

"I go with jared mirshar's chin is not good enough to make him a top ticket play but I mean he's got legitimate wins in the ufc"

Daniel Levi Expert Lean pick date unknown
Gerald Meerschaert

Daniel Levi leans toward Gerald Meerschaert but is not comfortable laying -230. He respects Meerschaert's submission record and veteran savvy, but notes that Meerschaert typically wins as an underdog. Levi thinks Stoltzfus is no slouch and has faced tough competition, but believes Meerschaert's experience and ground game will be the difference. He expects a competitive fight where Meerschaert eventually finds a submission or wins a decision, but advises passing the bet or taking the dog.

Jacob picks Dustin Stoltzfus, believing he will dominate the fight. He thinks Meerschaert's takedowns are sloppy and that Stoltzfus will defend them and win the striking exchanges. Jacob notes that Stoltzfus outstruck Rodolfo Vieira 2-1 before being submitted, and that Meerschaert's chin is questionable. He expects Stoltzfus to knock Meerschaert out.

The MMA Guru calls this one of the locks of the card, picking Gerald Meerschaert to win by second-round guillotine choke. He notes Meerschaert has been looking great recently and Stoltzfus is one-dimensional. Marc-Andre Barriault vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Oleksiejczuk (-330); Barriault (+270)

Round 1
Every now and then, the matchmaking plans are glaringly obvious as to what the UFC would like from a particular pairing. This middleweight slugfest is one such bout, as Oleksiejczuk (21-9, 1 NC; 9-7, 1 NC UFC) vs. Barriault (17-10, 1 NC; 6-9, 1 NC UFC) is practically destined for a knockout. Referee Chris Tognoni is ready whether this goes 15 seconds or the whole distance, and he gathers himself as the combatants bump gloves together.
Oleksiejczuk moves himself to the center of the cage and slowly works his way forward, but Barriault strikes first with a hefty body kick. Barriault loops a right hand over the guard, and he gets countered when trying. Oleksiejczuk swipes out a few lefts to wrap them around the raised hands, looking to hand-fight to pull down one glove and open up a big right. Oleksiejczuk stings “Power Bar” with a hard left hand, backing Barriault up to the wall but not pouncing. He swats away a responsive left to chop at the lead leg with a kick, and he leans back to watch punches buzz past him. Barriault clips Oleksiejczuk when Oleksiejczuk loads up on power, and he tosses out a naked kick that has him get his jaw jacked. Oleksiejczuk hammers the body with a kick, and he loops a right hand upstairs to follow. Barriault advances, driving home a knee up the middle and peeling back.
Oleksiejczuk has a leg kick checked, and he nails the body with a resounding thud. Barriault probes out with his jab, trying to disrupt the power flying at his melon, and he zips in an uppercut to keep Oleksiejczuk honest. Oleksiejczuk walks through it to loose a leg kick, and he rolls with a left hook to put two fists on Barriault’s face. Oleksiejczuk keeps his guard up to knock Barriault back with a heavy fist, and Barriault is fighting defensively enough to defend the big stuff upstairs but his midsection is wide open. Oleksiejczuk kicks so low, it practically hits the ankle, and he goes to the body again. Barriault’s looping response is a few feet off, and he gets clubbed with two straight lefts. Oleksiejczuk bloodies up his foe’s nose with his big swings, and he hacks at the lead leg with an inside kick. Oleksiejczuk catches a body kick, lashes out with a left and hurls Barriault to the mat in hopes of pounding on him. Barriault ties him up as the horn sounds.

Round 2
The middleweights touch gloves, and Oleksiejczuk advances as the initial aggressor. Both men paw out their jabs, and Oleksiejczuk briefly drops Barriault to a knee with a heavy inside low kick. He swipes a right over the top, and he takes a left on the chin that he no-sells. Oleksiejczuk racks up a pair of punches on the chin, and “Power Bar” is hanging in tough and very much in this fight. Barriault swings body to head, and Oleksiejczuk does the same, both men scoring strikes. Barriault keeps his right hand pinned to his melon, and he has his guard split with a jab. Barriault loops a right to the ribs, and he catches Oleksiejczuk at the end of a pair of hooks. Oleksiejczuk slips and rips with a right hand on the jaw, and he meanders out a follow-up right that leads to him getting countered. Oleksiejczuk drives home a one-two, backing Barriault up, and he connects with a body kick with a sound like a 2-by-4 hitting a side of beef. Barriault steels himself and comes out firing, getting Oleksiejczuk’s attention when he swings with everything he has.
Barriault starts landing cleanly on Oleksiejczuk, changing his strategy completely as he walks Oleksiejczuk down. Oleksiejczuk’s power appears to be fading as Barriault ignores blows that would have irritated him the previous round. Barriault loads up, seeing that Oleksiejczuk could be losing steam, and he pressures him relentlessly. Barriault goes to the body and lands an elbow up top that cuts Oleksiejczuk’s forehead. Oleksiejczuk swings wildly with body shots and the occasional one to the head, and Barriault is on top of him forcing him to react. Oleksiejczuk lands a left that may have hit the cup, and he has a spinning back fist glance off the side of the head. Barriault marches forward, not reacting to anything that lands on him while forcing Oleksiejczuk to backpedal. The horn sounds to end a close round.

Round 3
The middleweights touch ‘em up before commencing the final frame, and it starts like the first round and not the second. Oleksiejczuk plants his feet and pins a one-two on the chin, shoulder-rolling to take some of the sting out of what comes back his way. He swipes out a one-two, and he digs one to the body. Both men are feeling it after their brawl, and Barriault comes out the cleaner as he backs Oleksiejczuk off with a short but effective barrage of punches. Barriault maneuvers himself to the pocket to trade, but this is where Oleksiejczuk wants to be, and he hurls back punches in bunches. Suddenly, the Polish athlete changes things up for a takedown attempt, and Barriault shuts it down as they reset in slugging range.
Both men proceed to trade leather, with Oleksiejczuk ripping body shots while Barriault headhunts. Oleksiejczuk strings three punches together, shooting in for a double behind it and bullying the Canadian to the wall. Barriault shucks it off and swings for the fence, but no one is there to be hit. Oleksiejczuk has backed away to re-engage, and they jab at one another until Oleksiejczuk pitches a high kick that bangs into the raised guard. The clinch tie-up results in a few body shots from Barriault, and a knee on the button freezes Oleksiejczuk. Oleksiejczuk takes a breath and flashes out his power punches, connecting effectively with his left to the liver. Barriault boxes back, and Oleksiejczuk kicks at his lead leg. Barriault lumbers out with a left hand, and they swat at one another with jabs out of range. Oleksiejczuk dips and clubs Barriault upside the head, and not to be outdone, Barriault kicks him in the face. Oleksiejczuk offers a high kick that hits the guard, and they proceed to throw punches, kicks and the kitchen sink at one another until we have—perhaps surprisingly—reached the final bell.

Sharabutdin Magomedov vs. Marc-Andre Barriault
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Magomedov (-600); Barriault (+425)

Round 1
The “featured fight of the night” promises to be a knockout-or-bust affair, with two middleweights that prefer to bash other people in the head repeatedly. Magomedov (15-1, 4-1 UFC) ran into a puzzle he could not solve in February when Michael Page outguiled him, while Barriault (17-9, 1 NC; 6-8, 1 NC UFC) is a few wins away from reaching the crucial .500 mark as a UFC fighter. Referee Jim Perdios knows that there will be fistic fireworks, and he steps back as the two sluggers opt against clapping hands.
Barriault gets right on the accelerator, chasing after the Russian while looking to set up his right hand. Magomedov stays on the outside chipping at him with low kicks. Barriault pulls back right before letting loose, keeping his guard up to block a one-two flying at him. Magomedov connects with a solid low kick, and he sways to avoid the worst of a left hand. Magomedov hacks at the lead leg with more kicks, with Barriault unable to pin him in place so he shoots for a double. Barriault succeeds in dragging “Shara Bullet” down, but Magomedov grabs the fence to pull himself up and is lightly chided for the infraction. When upright, Magomedov looses an unorthodox high kick, and he tries to time a jump knee when Barriault pressures him.
Barriault avoids the knee and ties Magomedov up, and he is soon turned around and starts eating knees and elbows. Barriault gets one knee back, but Magomedov’s is much heavier and forces a break. On his way out, Magomedov chips at the front leg a few more times. He sits down on one as Barriault is about to charge at him, messing up the Canadian’s momentum. Barriault pushes aside a front kick and keeps his guard high to block additional strikes so he can clinch up the Russian. Barriault leans heavily on his opponent, and he gets complacent and absorbs two elbows on the cheek before releasing his grip. Magomedov, with space, goes back to destroying Barriault’s front leg. Barriault hits air when going after Magomedov, and he barely blocks a capoeira kick but takes the brunt of a question mark kick before the round concludes.

Round 2
Barriault again races towards his opponent to start off the round, pitching a front kick at Magomedov that Magomedov catches. Magomedov returns fire with a jump kick and then lands to plant a kick on Barriault’s front leg. They kick at the same time, and Barriault’s foot grazes the cup. Perdios checks on the Russian, who is good to go. Magomedov is quick to continue his methodical assault of low kicks while evading any arm swing aimed his direction. Barriault whiffs on a left hand and takes a right hand up top. He tries to tie Magomedov up, and Magomedov bops him with a short left hand and slashes open a cut on the top of Barriault’s head with an elbow. Magomedov nails Barriault with a hook kick, and he tries to follow it with a question mark kick. Barriault may be bloodied and unsuccessful thus far, but he steels himself and unloads a vicious right hand that shatters Magomedov’s nose. Barriault clubs his opponent with a few uppercuts and keeps working the body until Magomedov has to escape. Barriault bears down on “Shara Bullet,” who is leaking and badly wounded.
Barriault continues attacking his bloodied opponent, beating on him with clinch strikes when they tie up again. Barriault shoots for a double, clasping his hands and lifting Magomedov up in the air to dump him on his seat. Magomedov explodes to his feet, and Barriault stays tightly pressed to him. Magomedov lashes out with short elbows on the inside, and Barriault replies with several body shots. Magomedov frames off with knees, turning Barriault around in the clinch as the two let one another have it. Magomedov hurts Barriault with a particularly damaging knee, and he drills the Canadian with punches and body shots. Barriault is barely on his feet as he uses the fence to keep himself upright, and he survives to reach the bell. It will be interesting to see how that bloody round is scored officially.

Round 3
Like before, Barriault is the aggressor immediately. He cannot catch up with Magomedov, who times a jump knee when Barriault tries to shoot. Barriault redoubles his effort on his takedown, and he releases it to lean on his opponent. Magomedov lands a knee before pushing off, and he drills Barriault with a hook kick after the break. Magomedov waves his arms around in circles while trying to potshot Barriault, and he ignores a low kick to shovel out an uppercut. Barriault reaches him with a right hand, but Magomedov hits him with three or four in the same stretch of time.
Magomedov peppers Barrriault’s front leg with another kick, faking a jump knee to draw out a reaction. Barriault sees it is coming and loose a left hand up top, and Magomedov settles down to jam Barriault in the jaw with a few elbows before they split again. Magomedov starts getting into his groove with flashy, high-risk high-reward kicks, and Barriault takes that away from him by clinching. Magomedov connects with short elbows to force a split, and he marches Barriault down and kicks him in the front leg and side. Magomedov then leaps at his opponent with a knee, and his head kick further stings the Canadian. Magomedov sets up a spin but does not go for it, telegraphing that a spin kick is in the tank only to shoot in for a takedown he bails on immediately. Magomedov drives a knee to the jaw, and he trips up Barriault and tosses him to the floor. Magomedov rains down punches en masse, punishing Barriault with a mean-spirited flurry as time expires.

Marc-Andre Barriault vs. Bruno Silva (187: Missed Weight)
BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Barriault (-148), Silva (+124)

Round 1
Two skidding knockout artists will try to smash the other, with a pink slip very likely awarded to the losing party. What was a middleweight contest transformed into a catchweight affair as Silva (23-12, 4-6 UFC) missed weight by a pound after asking matchmaker Mick Maynard to give him one more chance. Barriault (16-9, 1 NC; 5-8, 1 NC UFC) also has his back against the wall, but he will have the crowd on his side at least. The two hard-swinging gentlemen do not touch gloves, as referee Luc Lefebvre watches on. Barriault sticks out his jab almost immediately, and he walks face-first into a right hand and fires back to make Silva clutch his eye. The Brazilian recovers and resets, lashing out with two punches that miss the mark and darting back to avoid the counter. Silva reaches out with a right hand and digs a knee to the body, switching stances to set up a kick that does not come. Barriault boots him in the body, and Silva catches the kick and knocks him over with swarming punches. Barriault climbs back up to his feet and jams Silva against the fence, where he unloads with titanic elbows.
His power bar maximum, “Power Bar” smashes Silva in the temple with elbow after ruthless elbow. Silva’s legs wobble and quickly give way, and he collapses face-first on the mat, totally done while Barriault finishes the job with four concussive punches
. The crowd explodes in favor of the Canadian, with “Ole ole ole” chants drowning out any other thought. Silva is still down, as medical officials tend to him. He slowly regains consciousness, but is completely disoriented and clutches his head while Barriault walks to the center of the cage and puts his hands in the prayer gesture. Silva rolls to his back, in serious agony, and Barriault’s celebration is tempered but emotional as he embraces his team. This marks the first time that Silva had ever been knocked out as a pro, and it is a rough one as the medical team tends to him and stretchers him out of the cage.

Curtis is reliant on a knockout to win, but Barriault's style should be tough for Curtis to overcome. I think Barriault puts together a better overall body of work and wins by decision.

He notes Barriault has impressive striking volume (almost 6 sig strikes per minute) but is also hit a lot. He thinks Stoltzfus is dangerous early with power but has a questionable chin. He suggests betting the over if a 1.5 round line is available, as the fight could go long.
